MMD National Secretary, Katele Kalumba, says he is convinced President Rupiah Banda will defeat all presidential candidates in the 2011 elections.
Dr. Kalumba says he is happy that the general membership of the MMD appear to have reached a consensus on its preferred candidate for the presidential elections.
He also says the state of affairs will make it easy for him to convene the MMD national convention.
Dr. Kalumba told ZNBC news that the task of convening the convention will be easy because the MMD membership is generally agreed to support one candidate.
And Dr. Kalumba has dismissed MMD Spokesperson, Ben Tetamashimba’s remarks that he was interested in contesting the Presidential elections on the MMD ticket.
Mr. Tetamashimba recently challenged Dr. Kalumba to openly declare his Presidential ambitions.

if you have eyes to see, ears to hear and you do not have a clouded thought process, you sure will have noticed many signals of development around the country: stable mealie meal supplies, stable fuel supplies, new schools, health centres, expose of corruption, roads including kalabo road etc. these are the things that win votes; put in simple terms these are the things that “rig” elections. meanwhile the opposition is busy with senseless pacts and insults in the mistaken belief that postmania headlines will win them votes.

Since independence our leaders have made some very bad and selfish decisons that have caused untold hardships and suffering to the majority of Zambians. One of the worst mistakes was to bring back Rupiah Banda from retirement and appoint him vice president and now as president he is not serving the Zambian people but his own and his puppets like Teta and Mulongoti. Can anyone help me understand why the late Mwanawasa appointed Rupiah as VP? Remember, fellow Zambians Rupiah’s priority when he moved into the state house was to take his entire kith and kin for a holiday all at the expense of the exploited taxpayer who can hardly afford a bag of mealie meal. Zambians have now realised that this president is too insensitive to the plight of the people.
What I like about the opposition is they are not showing signs of being a threat to us. I like the stance Tongas have taken of not being ready to work with other parties. Sata has a big ego. I am not losing sleep about this pact. Viva RB.

Secondly, late former President LP Mwanawasa appointed to be then Vice President Rupiah Banda simply because Chief Mpezeni changed his mind to support President Mwanawasa over his initial support of president HH (Mpezeni’s namukonda HH) in Eastern Province which helped secure a win for MMD as an appeasement to the Eastern Province people.

The agenda for the MMD is simply to continue in power even when they cannot help solve the problems the country is facing. They are all old guys with very old ideas and hence the country does not need them anymore. These MMD members calling for the adoption of RB as a presidential are only doing so in order to keep their jobs once RB wins.
