Luapula headed for economic transformation

Luapula Province Assistant Secretary (AS) has disclosed that despite Luapula Province being one of the poorest Provinces in the Country with poverty levels standing at 82 per cent, the Province is now headed for economic transformation..

Mr. Paul Mulola said the 82 per cent poverty is the general picture but some wards within the province are at 95 per cent which is quite high and the Province is coming up with a number of strategies to transform the Province into an economic giant.

He said the abundant presence of water bodies in the Province should be exploited for economic returns.

He added that the popular Mukula tree natural resource is found in Luapula which should be used to benefit the Luapula economy.

Mr. Mulola observed that Luapula is a place of abundance which houses lake Bangweulu in Samfya which is a natural resource that could be of great economic value to the Province.

He pointed out that Luapula Expo planned for July this year is one of the strategies which will open up the Province to the world for economic boom.

Mr Mulola also called for the change of the civil servants’ attitude towards the members of the publicto deliver quality public service.

He was speaking when a team of Human Resource Management Consultants from Cabinet Office in Lusaka paid a courtesy call on him yesterday.

And Team Leader of the consultants on Human resource Reforms from Cabinet Office in Lusaka Dr. Venus Seti said Government is committed to ensuring that there is total transformation in the civil service to improve public service delivery to the people.

He added that Government has engaged competent consultants from the National School of Government International in undertaking Civil Service reforms so that there is fruit at the end of the process of transforming the civil service.

And National School of Government International Owen Clifford said the Civil Service Reforms will set up a human resource Committee in the province which will make recommendations to the Permanent Secretary on what should be done for the reforms to take effect.

  1. BA LT, PLEASE DO NOT FEATURE IMAGES THAT CAN’T OPEN AND EXPAND. THAT IS BEING STUP1D AND UNPROFESSIONAL. IMAGES ARE PART OF THE NEWS ESPECIALLY THAT YOU DON’T EVEN WRITE GOOD ENGLISH. AT LEAST YOUR LEADERSHIP CAN FALL-BACK ON AN IMAGE TO UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU ARE TRYING TO SAY. PLEASE, IF YOU HAVEN’T GOT IMAGES RELATING TO THE TOPIC JUST DON’T FEATURE ANYTHING, LEAVE IT BLANK. FEATURING SOMETHING WHICH DOES NOT OPEN IS CALLING YOUR READERSHIP, IDI0TS, IF YOU DON’T KNOW. IN THE FIRST PLACE IT IS VERY F00LISH OF AN ELECTRONIC MEDIA NOT HAVE AN IMAGE RELATING TO A GIVEN TOPIC.

    • LUAPULA PROVINCE IS A HOUSES ALL MAJOR WATER BODIES (SUCH AS LUAPULA AND PART OF CHAMBESHI RIVERS, THE BIGGEST LAKE-BANGWEULU, MWERU, MWERU-WANTIPA, ETC) OF ZAMBIA FOR A MEDIA BUSINESS TO FAIL TO GET A PICTURE TO HELP PEOPLE KNOW WHAT LUAPULA PROVINCE IS ALL ABOUT. LUAPULA PROVINCE HAS MANY WATERFALLS THAN ANY OTHER PROVINCE. LUAPULA PROVINCE HAS ONE OF THE WORLD’S LARGEST FLOOD PLAINS WITH DIFFERENT ANIMALS HOUSED IN THE PLAINS. LUAPULA PROVINCE IS ONE OF THE PROVINCES OF THE NORTHERN PART OF ZAMBIA WITH HIGHEST RAINFALL AND VERY FERTILE SOILS. THERE’S ALSO TUTA ROAD- THE FIRST ROAD IN ZAMBIA THE CHINESE CONSTRUCTED. SO, BA LT, HOW DO YOU RUN SHORT OF A PICTURE WHICH CAN EVEN MARKET LUAPULA PROVINCE TO POTENTIAL INVESTORS? POOR JOURNALISM INDEED PA ZAMBIA.

    • I MEANT TO SAY, LUAPULA PROVINCE HOUSES ALL…

AND NOT, “LUAPULA PROVINCE IS A HOUSES ALL” MAJOR WATER BODIES

  2. PF can’t bring any meaningful development apart from intimidating and jailing innocent Zambians where the govt comes in to compasate victims with a lot of money. Money is spent on failed projects.

  3. @ Peter,
I cant agree with you more, really why has this rich Province in its true sense been neglected, why? Its time Government deliberately started programs to attract investors in this marvelous land of plenty. Everything under the sun is in Luapula Province, I hope some USD Billionaire somewhere is reading this posting! Come and invest in Luapula Province and you will NEVER regret having made such a decision!
