UPND president Hakainde Hichilema arrive for the Kabwata rally
UPND president Hakainde Hichilema

United Party for National Development President Hakainde Hichilema says the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Report confirms fears by many stakeholders that the country is in bad hands.

The opposition leader says the UNDP report that ranked Zambia as performing badly in Human Rights and other social Rights is consistent with other international reports about the current situation in the country.

Speaking in an interview in Lusaka today, Mr. Hichilema said the UN report only confirms many concerns the international community has on Zambia which he described as unfortunate.

And Mr. Hichilema says the wind is blowing towards the UPND and that this is God’s time for the UPND to take over power from the ruling PF.

He said the PF has mismanaged the affairs of the country in all aspects including the economic and social sectors.

Meanwhile, Mr. Hichilema says President Michael Sata does not understand running the economy of the country.

He noted that if Mr. Sata understood the priority in economic management the country would not be faced with what he termed as economic collapse.

  1. Indeed we can not compare Sata and HH in terms of managing the economy and the country as a whole, the two are worlds apart, A fish and bird may fall in love but the two cannot build a home together. HHHH HHHH is a genius

    • I absolutely loathe and abhor Sata’s naked tribalism. Between the two HH is a better choice. Sata is totally repulsive and a colossal stupendous blunder Zambians should never repeat ever. For the sake of the country, Zambians should put tribe aside and elect quality leadership.

    • @Octopus apart from tribalism you are forgetting theft. Yes a Tonga will steal and they do and have stolen before but they are better. I have never forgotten. My father had chickens and the on very few occasions when we had Tonga worker would steal some eggs from the layers. When we moved to Ndola and he employed these Bemba Chaps it was the end. They stole the chickens that laid the eggs. And the project collapsed. Senseless and wild these bululus of mine are. In any case we may be lucky we get one that doesn’t steal but have a heart for the country. Lets try fellow Zambians Haleisa Haleisa. Tired of Perpetual Faults (PF)

    • Ludicrous by this man.

What are you talking about. ?
How are you better than mr Sata?

What do you have that me sata doesn’t. ?

This is noderline treason by HH?

I am sure now his supporters will abandon.

      Thanks

    • You can not compare some one who has never been a Councillor to some one who is tested in a lot of areas. Sata is a pilot, locomotive driver, police, clernical officer, miner, economist, MP, Councillor, President and with that exeperience what do you want.

    • “And Mr. Hichilema says the wind is blowing towards the UPND and that this is God’s time for the UPND to take over power from the ruling PF.”
This under 5 boy will never learn. He has been saying crap like this from 2006, but the presidency keeps on eluding him. Some things will never change.Smh

    • There is no country in the world that has no blemish on human rights….. tell one one and will give you their blemished record on human rights.

In fact we are have improved and keep improving all t5he time.

UNDP may express its own opinion on Zambia and we can write one on them (UNDP).

There is no way God almighty would allow UPND to take over govt….it wont just happen.
PF is doing a fantastic job in uplifting the standards of living and investing in the future of the country.

Running the country and govt does not require a tribal pack of plunderers in UPND.

      UPND MUST reform or perish

    • @Cat Power Kekekekeke that Tonga worker was just stealing eggs from layers, but a Bemba worker steals chicken.
I heard of that too at Fringila Farms in Chisamba , that Tonga farm-workers could go and milk cows for the “musoya”, but Bemba workers stole cows, one-by-one, sold the meat.

    • @ Octopus Bwalya, Cat Power etc. You seem to think that anyone who speaks Bemba is Bemba by tribe. Also it is so silly of you to keep insulting the people whose vote you are trying to win. As for you ,Octopus Bwalya, please change your name to Octopus Hichikala or something.

    • @ Octopus Bwalya, I agree with you about the tribalism practiced by Sata and as a Bemba, I feel so embarrassed when I see some of the appointments.
@ Cat Power and Nostradamus, thank you for your stereotype. I hope you will not take exception when a white man looks down on you because your colour.

    • The only test Sata has passed with flying colours is hiding from his own shadow, not that of running government.

  2. It pains. PF can make you NOT come to Zambia. Other WebSites are indicating we r POOREST (#1) in Africa.
I cried the whole night and my NIGERIAN friends were laughing at me. I am so embarrased we r even below Somalia !!
    Nevertheless home is HOME.
    Viva New Blood Viva UPND.

    • Forget about those,Nigerians eish.If they feel they have enough tell them to go back and help out with Boko Haram and Ebola,Ecowas is waiting for them. This is our SADC they should leave us alone! We’re poor but happy you can’t trade that with Boko Haram, please you are better off being Zambian,be happy!,if it was an SA brother laughing at me i’ll bothered, come on now!,be Zambia at all times better days are coming if can study with a purpose of going back and add value, thats want Zambia needs, young fresh minds.I love you my brother, its my prayer that you can be yourself

  3. Zambia is going through an economic break through, we needed this kind of infrastructure development sometime back say 2006. Viva PF Viva Sata

  4. We told ya not to elect these PF vuvuzelas and you didn’t listen. Now the UN agency has confirmed what we thought and other presidents keep avoiding visiting Zambia due to the ebola of PF misrule.

  5. BOZ has given the go-ahead to commercial banks to raise lending rates from 21% to 28%. They have said this has been necessitated due to high government borrowing. This means, dear friends and foes alike on this blog, that SMEs and other small businesses will suffer massively because of the PF government.

    • Correct. And to imagine not long ago our dearest VP was boasting that interest rates would soon be below 12% as part of PF’s “master plan” to create new jobs and business opportunities for the youth.

Unfortunately, part of the PF “plan” also involved spending money like whores on crack and they left themselves no choice but to hike interest rates (or watch the exchange rate and inflation skyrocket!). Imagine a party whose brain-trust of intellectuals argued “you can’t eat numbers” getting something like this wrong…. who woulda’ thunk?

    • Yes, he can be full of him self or call him whatever you want but Zambia’s sixth president speaks the truth and his ready to serve his country. Unlike your clueless and incompetent current president who has only one interest as president – himself. That is why he has doubled his salary, does not care about ensuring resources are well spent instead of unnecessary by-elections or even fulfilling the promises he made like the constitution. God will punish him for making his people suffer. I urge Mr. President to do what is right under God’s eyes, you know deep down that you have damaged this country and you continue to do so. Or just do us a favour and step down we will appreciate.

  6. Thanks HH for sharing that observation with me. It’s time Zambians forgave themselves for voting the incompetent government into office. They have now vowed never to EVER repeat their mistake.

  7. Zambians please face the truth HH can serve this country from pf mismanagement why have old leaders like sata / Guy Scott who have no idea about anything. Please let us work with HH things will change for the better.

    • Most of you who support HH are Tongas and you cannot deny it. You just want positions but using Zambians. To tell you the truth, HH will only lead Zambia if cows and its cow dung are allowed to vote. No wonder you are begging Zambians to vote for this man.

    • Iwe chi Salaula, is it only tongas who are buying mealie meal at high prices? Ifs it only tongas who are paying high prices for fuel? Is it only tongas who are unemployed? Is it only tongas who are feeling left out in diplomatic and government appointments or on the receiving end of Sata’s tribalism? Is it only tongas who are not getting a fair share of developmental projects?

    • Work with HH and UPND at your own peril otherwise majority of Zambians made up their minds in 2006 when HH hounded out bo Sakwiba Sikota from its top leadership. UPND is simply paying the price of engaging tribal politics and it will continue to do so. No matter how hard you beg for votes, nothing will happen and come 2016 UPND will lose for it’s fifth consecutive time.

  8. The United Nations (UN) where UNDP which manages all UN agencies, has lost its purpose. They only condemn weaker nations like Zambia. What are they doing in UKraine, Syria, and now in the USA where blacks are being slaughtered by cops?

  9. I was expecting the reporter to make some reference to the actual UNDP report. Please ba LT improve your reporting skills.
Back to the topic least I join the band wagon of shooting the messenger and not the message, the observation by the UPND president may be correct. There is a lot of humanrights abuse going on in the country. From selective application of the public order act to the slow pace of dispensation of court cases. Its rreally a sad state of affairs. And without any malice on my part let me hasten to state that the situation will not change with the UPND or indeed any other party coming in to power. As has been proven by successive regimes from the Chiluba govt to the Sata govt, power corrupts. How are we to know for certain that Mr. Hichilema or Mr. Mumba or Mr.Chipimo will

    • Totally agree with you, they need investigative journalism and proving with empirical data, not singing praise for PF.

  10. Meant to say, if this information about the report is true, UNDP should not only pick on weaker nations but also keep checks and balances on super powers like the USA. For example, the Hague should not only be for African individuals but also powerful people from other developed countries.

  11. will not support the repressive and oppressive public order act in its current form and indeed other repressive laws? The only sure way to protect fundamental freedoms is to reduce the powers of the president and the govt. Let us set up a consitutional court, let parliament appoint the police IG and let an outsourced consulting firm recruit police men and women on merit. I just dont trust politicians any more. Look at how the current party in govt went back on its promises on the public order act. Our trust should be in institutions and not individuals.

  12. i agree with you salaula they just want to use us in order to gain positions in government. the way i know tongas ala bane we ll cry they love themselves and im talking with expelience not ifyakupanga those who had tonga boses can bear with me ,the promotions and favours go to the same group of pipo and even the top leadership how it was designed u can tell, its jst recentry they have started mixing other tribes on top ledership. dont expect devlopment to other areas apart fr.their ares wait and see

  13. The biggest problem in Zambia is that the attitude of the majority of Zambians is so bad that they are not bothered with such reports. Just look at some of the comments here. When you read about Zambia in global reports such as Global Competitiveness Report, Global Innovation Index , UNDP Development Index, University Rankings in Africa etc, you are close to shedding tears. If you have a government that cant even pick up garbage along Cairo road, and you still have multitudes supporting it, then its a big problem. Right now the culture of progressiveness in Zambia has be replaced with theft, corruption, tribalism, nepotism, etc. When people begin to feel a sense security in the diaspora than in their own country, its not good, because the country end up losing the best brains.

    • This is the most unbiased comment so far compared to people that can never see any positive thing about Mr Sata. This is what I would term as constructive criticism. You have attacked the issue (economic problems) at hand and not the person (current president).

  14. Well spoken Mr. President. Surely Zambia’s economy is falling down since 2011. Apart from Mwanawasa, you’re the right person for mother Zambia. HH for Zambia

    • Cikoy! Mwanawasa? Have you forgotten or you were too young? Mwanawasa actually described UPND and Tongas as buttocks that will always remain behind the human body. Indeed Mwanawasa was right and come 2016 HH will remain behind like buttocks.

    • Can you give us the Gdp figures in 2011 and 2013 for us to prove that the economy is going down? Think before you write.

  15. The massive infrastructure in terms of roads and a few hospitals and schools that are mushrooming every were are a good thing to see. these could have been done by the previous Govt if they had been willing to do so. But, these projects are coming in handy at the expense of borrowed funds, borrowing 2 consume. This implies that somebody someday will have to pay heavily for these debts. Zambia at some point wil be so indebted that it will be difficult to run this country. The kwacha is very unstable due to excessive borrowing in order to do these projects, and ultimately win the hearts of the pipo, but critical thinkers will point out some serious spill over effects in the near future. The nxt Govt will find it difficult to manage this country. Our policies are very inconsistent. God Help us.

  16. HH is a true revolutionist and, on the basis of his intelligence and lack of arrogance and ignorance, he is one of the best thinkers of the millennium. According to my perspective, he is at the same level with Karl Marx. The difference between the former and the latter, is that the former has consistently noted and informed Zambians about social wills which the powers that may be (successive governments) at any given time after elections choose to neglect and shift their responsibilities to the opposition. Whereas the latter, before his death in 1888, he wrote more about the vicious results of capitalism. For Marx and the ordinary masses, capitalism is the source of all modern problems. Similarly, the PF symbolises the tributary of capitalists, a symbol of inequality. HH is the answer.

  17. Even free masons are now mentioning God? Sorry ba HH, you are a free mason and you are calling on the name of God in vain. You and your minions stood on the podium smiling and declared “Only a Tonga can lead UPND”. Yes, you are Tonga and leading UPND but not Zambia. I hereby declare that ‘A Tonga will NEVER rule Zambia”. It is a fact, you will remember this day, I don’t care about your insults. It is a fact?

    • Sata is also a Free Mason and a Satanist it is not a secret so leave HH alone. Chiluba even after declaring Zambia as a Christian nation did more harm to his family and the nation and looted our treasury stashing dollars all over the world buying shares in hotels and buying chains of apartments. The London judgement was correct unfortunately we have too many people who were stealing with Chiluba who do not want it to go through even the innocent Mwanawasa was created by the master thief and he used stolen money for his Presidential campaign the reason why he failed to lock up Sata till his death. We should all remember never to deep our hands in theft when the time of judgement comes we cannot run away. Very few people can resist temptation to steal that which does not belong to them.

  18. shame on some pipo who are like ticks on a dead animal.as long as it stil is an animal whetha dead or not they stil expect blood. their hop neva come 2 end. u kno thm by th way they talk.

  19. lets give him a chance, but that doesn’t mean all the Tongas should be in lusaka with there wagons full of milk container!

  20. Was Kaunda a councilor before he became president? Being a councilor is not a prerequisite to becoming president. Look, those who you are saying that they were councilors before, like sata, have failed to run this country. HH cannot be a councilor,he is above that ,he is not councilor material but presidential.

    • Oh please, don’t compare KK to that boy. KK started politics very young. And since he is not councilor material, the chances are 1% for him to be presidential material. you tongas think that a tonga can ever be president? It is impossible. the only chances were the time of Nkumbula and Mazoka. this error with the declaration made by HH and group, no one can waste a vote on him unless he/she is a f.ool.

  21. I forgot to warn you tongas, please DO NOT abuse the posh language by using it to insult me. you should use cow dung language.

  22. With due respect Ba Dorika, you’re not in a position to judge the man only God can,i know that its a common practice in zambia , “to look at the mote that others have , forgetting the beam that they might have”,i think its time to do away with this rubbish,”Happy clappy Churches” Pentecostal Churches, are not only brain washing pipo’s minds but making them think stupid, the so called pastors are the worst in these practices, leave HH.For the record,am not Tonga but had enough of Zambian politics, give a man a chance just like others

  23. UP and DOWN will never form gvt because of their violence mapatizya formula of beating people. They are beating people in Kaoma and Batoka for no apparent reasons.U don’t get votes by intimidating them.

  24. This is hilarious! UPND happy with UNDP report; of course the UNDP report is based on UPND’s views! Coincidentally, they have the same letters in their acronyms!

UNDP sits right on top of Guantanamo and look the other way. How many innocent people have been killed by PF drones; and US drones? UPND & UNDP compare and comment.

Surely there are other issues you can use to support your bid to State House, other than the UNDP report.

  25. UNDP and UPND are confused by fo0ls in the f0ols paradise who think they are one and the same. The chief of staff of f0ols HH, has spoken. Keep on hallucinating. You will never rule Zambia.

    • That’s what everyone thought of Sata.HH is the right man for the job as things stand,i mean we’ve tried just about all the tribes but Tongas, give them as well a chance and see were they’ll take us!

  26. Zambia is one of the most peaceful countries in te whole world. Just because the report was authored by the UN doesnt make it authentic. They can also make mistakes especially if they are fed with lies by enemies of the PF. Opposition parties are running around freely and are always insulting the president but nothing ever happens to them. It also unfortunate that our beloved president is not enjoying the best of his health but that should not be the reason to brand Zambia like they did. Everyone can fall sick at any time. PF have managed to implement developement of the much needed infrastructure and I do not agree with HH when he says Sata does not know how to run the economy because for the economy to grow, there must be infrastructural developement. Let him mention something else.

  27. wat is yo hh did to the money he got from privatisation if he knows how to manage the affairs of the country or if he has knowledge on economic growth

  28. This report is an eye opener to this government to massivley invest in social development capital. Human Development Index (HDI) is an internationally agreed yardstick to measure social development such as longevity and access to basic needs of life. What HH is saying is 100% correct. Such indicators are worrisome. Zambians, let us learn to debate of national importance based on emperical evidence. Whether Bemba,Lozi,Tonga,Chikunda or Chewa,we are all one. Above all, we are all one in Christ Jesus.

  29. This is simply politicking. Try to live in Iraq, Iran, Gaza, West bank, Pakistan, Libya and other Islamic countries then come and talk to me about human rights. How many innocent people have Israel, USA etc. killed by bombing defenceless people?

  30. UN under Bak moon is trying to force homosexuality on member states and Obama is the one leading and pushing the promotion and legalization of homosexuality. When Obama toured Africa, he tried to give a speech on homosexual rights in Senegal, but the Senegalese President told him off and remaindered him about death laws in his country and that Senegal is a sovereign country and it has every right to enact laws to protect its people and culture.
Any country with laws against homosexuals is been deliberately branded as having a bad human rights record like Zambia, Zimbabwe and even Russia . People like HH can sell the country to foreigners so that they can get a pat on the back from Obama. How many reports have they written to organisations to discredit PF? This guy is toxic!

  31. HH is not a Messiah and is not him who will redeem our country as he thinks. Which college did he graduate from where he was taught how to become a president and what makes him think is better than Sata or previous Presidents.
Every country has its own problems and will never be solved whether in short or long term. Big Powers the likes of USA, UK and others have not at any single moment said they have solved all the problems. Take for example the unemployment rate.
Up to now no country has a single digit percentage to boast of, and it remains a struggle everywhere. HH MUST NOT THINK IS THE RIGHT HAND when he refers PF AS WRONG HAND and where did he rule to compare with SATA

    • look president Sata has played his part,Come 2016 Zambia need a young man with fresh ideas and as things stand HH is that young man that Zambia needs,we appreciate what PF have done, but going forward Zambia needs HH more than never before, its been all about Bembas,we should not forget that Zambia represents 72 languages and Tongas are part of that group!,aleast Levy was different
