Chituwo and four others withdraw from the MMD race

Share

Health Minister Brian Chituwo has pulled out of the race for adoption as MMD Presidental candidate in the forthcoming bye-election.

Dr. Chituwo’s withdrawal came a few hours before the National Executive Committee meeting to select the party’s candidate at Mulungushi International Conference Centre in the Zambna capital, Lusaka.

MMD national secretary Katele Kalumba confirmed the development to ZNBC News at the party secretariat Friday.

Another candidate Cain Mweemba has also withdrawn from the race.

In his letter to Dr. Kalumba, Mr. Mweemba said his decision was done in the best interest of the party due to the limited time available before the presidential by-elections.

He challenged other presidential applicants to demonstrate selflessness by withdrawing from the race.

On Thursday, former Constitutional Review Chairperson Willa Mungomba announced his pull out from the race.

Thursday night Dr. Kalumba announced that five candidates had withdrawn from the race but refused to name them.

  1. I hope it doesnt work against him in future. Withdrawing is not a good sign especially for a man. He should have assessed his chances well before the race begun! I urge the rest not to pull out, stick it in guys………..

  2. Better late than never.

#1 i agree with you….he shouldnt have applied in the first place.

Does anyone have any info on who the undisclosed candidate is?

  3. ECZ when are the elections kanshi? Almost a month has gone and there is just 2 months remaining and parties must begin campaigning around a specific plan. Its this silence that is causing idle minds of the Kateles to start making useless statements.

  4. Read the story in the Times of Zambia about Magande and Siliya over Zambian Airways. It explains why The Post have been supporting Magande! From the start one could tell the support was not out of principle it was for business. Come on Magande and you want to be president!

  5. It wont be democracy if RB stands unopposed. There is no selfless that I can see in withdrawing from the race and infact its the opposite-SELFISHNESS.The party is not anymore important than the country is.You guys are probably withdrawing because you have been assured of ministrial posts at the expense of the nation.Unity of the party shouldnt be done at national expense for God’s sake! How sad is that.MMD is a very corrupt party.Competition is vital so that the best candidate emerges victor not just adopting please!

  6. MMD’s division is alarming. Too many people going for one position must mean they do not carry the same vision? Its clear to see that some people are selfish. Zambia belongs to the people not to an individual so am glad a few are pulling out. MMD is just showing us how disorganized they are.

  7. SPOT ON #17. IF THE PARTY HAD ONE VISION THEY WOULD BE UNITED IN THIS MATTER. HOWEVER, WE DO NOT WANT TO SEE A SUCCESSION, WE WANT ELECTION BASED ON MERIT

  8. Pipo..has anyone got information about the WILL LPM left for the country?kindly assist yo fellow country men in the diaspora…

  9. wat kind of democracy is this? katele’s statements are not welcome. elections must take place. when elections are required by the constitution there is no question of cost. cost is secondary besides a lot of donors are ready to help out with the funding of these elections. why the fear of elections?

  10. Iwee Mweemba ulemweneshamo former ZIT, why showing cowardice at such an hour? It is an embarrassment to the COBUSU trained leaders! Learn to do your homework properly before embarking on any project – wawaaa! with D neutral.

Nshamusangile when I went to CBU what did he study?

  11. It’s good to hear that some of the candidates now realise that they were not cut out for such a thing. I hope they are withdrawing out of princpal not for thirty pieces of silver. I think those singing for RB or Magande shud seriously look at what they are after. We want another selfless leader like the late SC, not that he was a saint but he tried to do the best for mother Zambia. All the best to the eventual winner we shall meet @ the ballot.

  12. this is the chance for RB,shame on the post news paper for slandering the soon to be sworn president with 90 % of cast votes at the election.

  13. To Hell with Katele Kalumba, VJ Mwanga, the “Big Fish” Maureen Mwanawa, to Hell with all these Finished,
We want New and Clean Blood in the next Leadership of our Nation.

  14. # 21, he was in the school of built environment SBE, but not in civil engineering, otherwise he would have had more brains not to cheapen himself at such fora. Cipuba fye!

  15. YEAH Mwanamuchende good Dr chituwo has withdrawn, i will support you for the 2011 just start your campaign now. as for c mweemba what a load of hogwash he said on radio yesterday like a headless chicken.

  16. No. 28 thanks, I think he did one of ifikwakwa like Land economy, Urban & Rgional Planning….No strategic planning course in his programme.

  17. #19 Kalampa: Its LT’s duty to provide that info. please LT help th brothers in the diaspora with the WILL. Put it as one of the headlines. i have the Post newspaper with me right now but typing it will time time.

and please who is this Anonymous candidate. we are tired of waiting!!!!

  18. Ama K5m ya bachita checkmate amaguys….no other excuse!! and the undisclosed candidate is MOUREEN MWANAWASA….for fear of public outcry since she is a widow still moring her hubby, she opted to remain incognital….SHAMUNENI BANE===> SHAME!!

  19. Here we go again……support the one in power…next thing you know state machinery is being used during elections…RB will only be chosen by MMD for that purpose…Zambians lets not be blinded by these guys…they all just want to keep their jobs and RB is the only way to go……Wake up Zed wake up…

  20. lets not be blinded by the endorsements for RB. who is RB? what has he done? what his vision for this country? we need a manifesto people. our politics are so disgusting, no principles. lets improve. lets have elections and let the candidates be subjected to live tv debates not just riding on oppotunities we never dreamed of. personally i would have loved a person who already had ambitions of being president.

  21. #21 Mwemba studied arctecture ,was expelled for 11 yrs, come back and completed in 2001.Never the less MMD is burying it self today if they vote RB.

  22. Ama guyz nibambuli ayi, I knew that maureen was going to file in her nomination. COBUSU muletusebanya naimwe get SOME ADVICE FROM UNZASU.

  23. #34 i concur with you totally. too much bootlicking in our beloved country. anybody running government becomes a king and untouchable. how principled are these politicians of ours? those veteran politicians where are they from. lets not fall in these trap people. i dont support the way the post have gone about it but we need to scrutinize these characters for our sake. i dont support magande either but a democratically elected individual. no succession story and definately no bootlicking the guy in power. and politicians there is life outside politics. politics is a service to the people not a livehood. nosense.

  24. its about time these chaps realise that they are not presidential material despite their hunger for power…how i wish more chaps withdrew and maybe there can be some sanity if our future not this circus that has ensued…

on the clashing of Magande and Siliya, applause to Ms Siliya for standing up to whats right…Magande is just trying to appease his friends abena Nchito…Wawa kapala!!! defering inkongole nabanani???

  25. RB is just a lucky guy don’t blame him. He looks left, he finds a beautiful young wife, he turns right he is appointed vice president, he tries to say thanks he is appointed acting president, he jumps in celebration immediately he lands he finds he is nominated as as MMD presidential candidate. And God tells him “Say a word and you are the next President of Zambia”. No wonder the guy is quiet.

  26. True dat Boeing 747 #35 we’re like going back to 2001,we need a person like HH & Sata or in the worst case Sondashi at lest they’ve had presidential ambitions for some time. They’ve analyzed MMD’s weaknesses & have properly outlined their manifestos for all to see.RB is a good man but what we need is more than a good man.We a visionary & energetic leader,an economic manager to push this nation forward building on the little that LPM did.

  27. LET US PRAY FOR PEACE. GOD WILL NOT TAKE US WHERE HIS ANNOINTING WILL NOT PROTECT US. ZAMBIA IS FOR CHRIST. ZAMBIA IS A CHRISTIAN NATION. NO ONE WILL STOP THAT. ABASH SATANISM.

  28. #21,#28 and #36, Cain “BUNGWE” Mweemba was in the then school of Environmental Studies (SES) the predecesor of school of Built Environment. He is an Architect.

I believe the reason for him to have stood was merely to have it on his CV that vied for the presidency now the K5m has discouraged him knowing that he wont win.

Otherwise he is a strong and brilliant boy. He strongly challenged the likes of KK hence is expulsion from CBU.

  29. 400 Billion Kwacha thats a lot of cash but again thats the price we have 2 pay 4 having selfish politicians who are always finding ways to dribble us on the constitution. The running mate issue as been in the recommendations since the KK,FTJ times but its been rejected, not by the pipo but by those in power. Now,billions are going into NCC & this unnecessary election. This election would have provided a great opportunity to bring about the much needed change from this nepotism but thinking of Sata being president makes me fear 4 this nation.Yes he can bring about change but we’d have 2 expect 2 many extremes,HH is better suited only that with the splitting of the opposition vote he might not

  30. MMD has atleast demonstrate a step in advancement of democracy but One wonders , y withdrew from race ! is it K5m fee or intimidation.PF & UPND should equaly ve alowed aplication instead of bull-dozing.How best can 1 judge the opposition >?!

  31. HH is the right man for the republican presidence not to have blind support in the name of continuity. We need really to VOTE HH’S visionary to move the country a step in development for poor.HH VIVA PLS WE HH for development sake.

  32. HH is the right man for the republican presidence not to have blind support in the name of continuity. We need really to VOTE HH’S visionary to move the country a step in development for poor.HH VIVA PLS WE VOTE HH for development sake. VIVA HH.

  33. Ba “unnamed applicant”,hope you have also withdrawn or else mwala sebana.

Mwachepa try applying to stand as a market chairperson in your area.

  34. If RB got 47 isnt that more than the number of NEC members considering that president and vice president where not there on the list Sondashi 0
    Mumba 0
    Kavi 0
    Shikap 1
    Kopulande 1
    magande 11
    RB

  35. Those advocating aganist voting for Sata,Sorry we have our own reasons for voting for him and deep rooted in Ubwato!!.You can’t tell us who to vote for.

Are you trying to persuade us to vote for your relatives?

  36. 44. EasyE

Your statement is catchy i wish we whare all that lucky except on the wife bit otherwise we shall be called pedos

  37. my father shud withdraw from this race, wat makes pipo even think that my father can lead a nation? He is not presidential material, he is ministerial material.

I know he jus wants to be president so that he can protect his financial investments, he rily wants to buy into zambian airways.Too bad for fred membe and the post, my father will neva b president and the post r veri wrong this tym. they shudnt attack RB, he hasnt done anything wrong to contest the MMD P race.

And to the undisclosed big wig, its kenny ngondo, i just confirmed it.

  38. Super Ken left Presidency at the age of 67,FJT at the age of 58 and the late Levy would have been 63 at the expiry of his 2nd term in 2011.Rupiah is 72 will be 75 in 2011 and if picked by the NEC will be 80 if he wins the two elections.Could age be a factor to the electorate?

  39. NORMAL THING TO DO?

AFTER TWO TO FOUR MONTHS, RB PLEASE DEMOTE MAGANDE TO DEPUTY MINISTER IN THE MINISTRY OF COMMERCE,……………

    THEN,…….

AFTER ANOTHER TWO MONTHS, RB FINALLY AND COMPLETLY DEMOTE MAGANDE TO AN ORDINARY MP.

As you know THIS IS AFRCA (TIA).

SCRATCH MY BACK AND I SCRATCH YOUR………..

FIGHT ME AND I FIGHT YOU BACK……….

STAB ME IN THE BACK AND I TOO STAB YOU IN THE BACK……….

WE AS THE POST ARE SAY THIS BECAUSE UNDER NORMAL SUCUMSTANCES INSUBORDINATION IS ALWAYS FOLLOWED BY EITHER A REPRIMAND OR DISMISAL.

SO RB IF YOU A MAN WORTH YOUR SALT YOU WILL SORT OUT MAGANDE AND ALL WHO ACTED (TO BE PRECISE those who spat in your face) AS

  40. YOU ARE THIER BOSS AS VP (AND ACTING OVERAL BOSS AS ACTING PRESIDENT. BUT THESE CHAPS AND LASSES DESCIDED TO RAISE THEIR VOICES AND FINGERS AT YOU BA BOSS,………PLEASE SORT THEM OUT IN THE NOT TOO DISTANT FUTURE…… ).

BUT PLEASE SPARE US AS THE POST (SORRY BOSS WE WERE PROMISSED ALOT BY THE MAGANDE CAMP AND I KNOW YOU WILL UNDERSTAND AND FORGIVE US).

  41. #68 & 69.You are very basic my girl!Better play cards than punch keys senselessly.MMD has a candidate Rupiah and Magande has not only conceded defeat, but has offerd to campaign for the MMD presidency. Now like it or not thats maturity.Democracy is a contest by popular poll,do you get it.Losers in primary polls can be important factors as we have learnt from Obama and Joe Biden if you know the geography. Now,as Levy would say,the question is whether Rupiah is gonna be relevant to me in 2011 at 75 yrs of age.

  42. Guys tell me i live in the bush who is the candidate…….now….now…eehhh …guys in lusaka, who is the candidate please, i need to know before i go to church tomorrow, no radio, no nothing please this blog will help me…..please please…..

  43. #71 is typical of utter tribalists or better should I say sheer shortsightedness. Popular poll outcomes I agree, but relevance long before you put to test material whose votes do not include yours, is worse than primitive.
Namu 2011 nauvota kale! that’s witchcraft. Wait for my vote!

  44. Magande should be investigated for using public funds to keep zambian airways a private company of his friend from collapsing. Is that not corruption and really could the champion of the fight against corruption chose this person to replace him? It barfours the mind
