Red card campaign’s objective not clear – UNIP

United National Independence Party (UNIP) will not join the Red Card Campaign being spear headed by the civil society because the objective is not clear, party secretary-general Jemima Banda has said.

And UNIP has advised all peace-loving Zambians to be alert all the time as Zambia heads to the polls next year because there are organisations that will be paid just to cause confusions.

In an interview yesterday, Ms Banda also warned UNIP members countrywide not to be swayed into joining the Red Card Campaign because the party suspected the campaign was aimed at disrupting the peace of the country.

Ms Banda said Zambians should be alert and worried about campaigns that had no clear agenda. She said UNIP had joined in the anti-third term campaign because it was aware the Constitution only allowed two terms but this was not the case with the Red Card Campaign.

Ms Banda said her party would continue to criticise the Government in areas of poverty, education and unemployment until the situation was improved, as the best way to make the Government work and not causing disunity.

  1. Well, these guys may be in a state of obsolescence, but this statement makes sense. If u do not understand or appreciate a ‘revolution’, u stay away & avoid being crushed with the inevitable rolling wheels…

  2. RB is UNIP turned into MMD. He still has UNIP supporters. Its not strange that UNIP will not join the Red Card Campaign. Objectives not clear?? I doubt it because even those that were in Group 3 in primary know the objectives of the campaign. UNIP secretary-general should have been in group 4.

  3. UNIP…MULILO ,UWATUMPA WAMOCHA……bulimi bwakale………whatever UNIP does,makes no sense.come 2011 MMD will be no more finish & klaa.

  4. To help UNIP understand the objective of the campaign. il explain. the campaign is aimed at informing the mass and all-well meaning zambians not to make the mistake of voting for the same MMD RB govt into power come 2011, therefore democratically removing it from power because it has failed us. its a KUYABEBELE campaign. The objective is very clear.

  5. Peace, peace, They promise my people peace, but sudden destruction is on its way. What standard is used to measure peace in Zambia should i ask? We will do well to copy the real meaning of peace from Botswana and not cheat ourselves that we are at peace. We are simply docile, dormant, and probably irrelevant to the crusade of the so called peace because if 90% of the population are still wallowing in abject poverty, whats in the word peace to eat? We ate peace and stability a long time ago under KK, but we need bread and butter, ne nkoko noti ukulakumbwa fye mu shoprite ala

  6. If you want to know which symbol is not for peace, consider the red card per se and compare it with the UNIP symbol in the picture above…….

  7. I think it is a West African scholar, probably Amilkar Carbrol [not sure about the spelling of the name] or Senghor, once said “better poor in freedom than have riches in bondage.” So those of you who do not konow what war or peace is ,look at Dr Congo, Zimbabwe, Sudan,Chad etc. Then you will not say some of theses negative things you are saying about the kind of peace we are enjoying. Stop behaving like first year university students who want to experience university rumpus. And when things happen they are the ones who suffer the most. For me am better off now than ever before. Where I work every body is driving….educate your kids and they will ward off poverty. not by red cards.

  8. #10 ulishilu, hpow may of you can drive, am i going to drive your vehicle, am i going to eat your feed, are you going to educate my children? Ma rubbish!!!!! kuya bebele, red card chabe

  9. In fact, it is not even necessary. Already MMD is showing us good signs of hope as Zambians. RED CARD FOR WHAT?

  10. It’s difficult to distinguish between MMD and UNIP, their policies, leadership styles and even their leaders’ names are the same, Banda, Banda, Banda…

  11. only normal Zambians can see the sense in the red card campaign…………….get lives you fullish stu pid unip

  12. #10. What is the price of Zambia’s peace?
Were you there when KK sanctioned “operation shishita”?
Were you there when KK sanctioned “operation clean up”?
Were you there when you could not get on UBZ without a UNIP card?
Were you there when your crock pot would be knocked over if you did not attend a political rally?
Were you there when school children lined up the streets to wave at the head of state who would no arrive until late in the night?
Were you there when no one was allowed to form a political party?
Were you there when the vigilantes would beat up on somebody for simply not singing the anthem?
Were you there when two UNZA stundents were shot and killed at point blank by a police officer?
    Zambian peace? Think again.

Driving cheap used japanese cars should even be considered as development..and something to even boast about.our close neigbour South africa does not even allow such cars on their roads.the thing is MMD has out lived their usefulness, just because u r earning something doesn’t mean everyone is enjoying.the fact is that alot of zambian’s are suffering,so MMD and alaa bee NI RED CARD COME 2011.KUYA BEBELEEE!2011 MMD ZWAAAAAAAA.

  14. #11 Sol man, I admire your faith in Michael Sata whom you think will buy you a car. RB might be a bad leader to you. That is your right to think. How ever if you think Michael Sat is your better leader then either you don’t know Michael Sata or you are suffering from a severe case of delusion.

  15. 5, Nice words but what is the alternative on offer? a vacuum is no option.

11, the advice from 10 is very clear, red cards will not educate your children or feed them. No amount of red cards will reduce your poverty, educate your children and the world will open up for them. The evidence is abundant that the politicians that you support are not doing it for you or me, but for themselves and their children. Wake up man!

10 & 17, I have nothing else to add, you have summed it all.

  16. Good point UNIP, where have you been ? Well what is the aim of the red ccard campaign? Is it to influence govt property or to ask the elctorate note to vote for MMd?if it is the latter than who should they vote for? anyway whatever the red card stuff is, one thing is for sure it is gaining momentum- Do you think this group could have political ambitions? remember MMd was originally a movement?

  17. RB is UNIP/MMD – fine. Sata is UNIP/MMD/PF. I am surprised at how people can choose to live in denial – sad
