President Michael Sata has commended the church for the role it played in ensuring that the nation holds peaceful and violent free elections.

President Sata said his Government commends the church for preaching love, peace and reconciliation.

He said his Government will be governed by biblical teachings based on the Ten Commandments.

The President was speaking in Lusaka today when he addressed congregants at Saint Ignitius Catholic Parish.

He told the congregation that his Government will also embrace the fight against corruption because one of the Ten Commandments states that ‘thou shall not steal.”

The President on this score warned that his government will persecute any one who steals irrespective of his or her social-economic status or party affiliation.

President Sata who is a Parishioner of Saint Ignatius Parish thanked the church for their consistence and contribution to his ascending to Republican presidency in the last ten years.

He assured the church that his Government would adopt the catholic doctrine and discipline of services to the people.

The head of state said he would ensure equal distribution of wealth among all Zambians, saying he would not want to see a situation where his children have three meals a day while others had none.

He also emphasized the need for people across the country to love one another and embrace reconciliation.

Earlier, President Sata and wife Dr Christine Kaseba were blessed by the congregation and prayed for by Father Charles Chilinda.

Fr. Chilinda blessed the first couple as they knelt at the alter at who added the 08:15 and 10:00 hours mass knelt before the alter and

prayed to God to give President Sata wisdom, knowledge and right judgment for him to effectively govern the people of Zambian.

And Father Chilinda urged Mr Sata to embrace all Zambians and desist from seeking retribution but love, peace and reconciliation.

He further stated that the Presidents crusade against corruption would not be successful if people do not get rid of corrupt practices.

“Corruption starts from within us. You can cry about the lack of medicines in hospital but if you steal medicines in hospitals, can the patients be able to access these medicines”, he said.

And Father Chilinda who acknowledged Mr Sata as the first Catholic President for Zambia said people voted for President Sata because they know that he is a hard worker and would deliver on his promises.

Father Chilinda has since given President Sata a new title dubbed “Servant King” and urged people never to refer to him again as King Cobra.

President Sata was accompanied by Kanyama Member of Parliament, former works and supply deputy minister Lameck Mangani and other senior PF officials.

  1. How come he is making careless statements like this and did the Priest tolerate this nonsense and dividing statement in the Roman Catholic church?

Sata is making a very very big mistake that his precedesor Banda made. Zambia is not predominantly Catholic but Evangelical. If Sata starts making these careless statements he risks hurting non Catholic Zambians who voted for him and will vote for the opposition next.

The way Sata has started by mixing church and government is how Chiluba started and the CATHOLIC condemned him. The Catholic need to condemn this MADman.

The running of the govt should be based on the CONSTITUTION and not the so called TEN commandments.
EVEN KONY of Ugandan claimed to base his beliefs on the TEN commandments.
As Zambians, we say no to DECEPTION!!

  2. The President made a good point here, corruption must be fought by all.

ZRA at the post office in Lusaka need to be checked. They steal pkgs or charge exhorbitant unsubstantiated fees which they pocket. I hate those dogs! They can sniff electronics through cardboard!

    • I have refused to use Zampost for anything….use DHL…it might cost more but it gets there intact.
i have sent many old mobile phones with chargers and no worries.
Australia to Zambia takes a week.

  3. IF MR. MC SATA WANT TO USE CATHOLIC PRINCIPLES, THEN HE IS WRONG. BECAUSE HE IS NOT A CATHOLIC PARISH PRESIDENT BUT A ZAMBIAN ELECTED BY ALL ZAMBIANS HENCE BEING A ZAMBIAN PRESIDENT FOR CHRISTIANS AND MOSLEMS INCLUSIVE. NEVERTHELESS, WE WANT JESUS TO COME SOON!!!

  4. The lozis have regrouped wanting to secede from Zambia. A new battle to test the new leadership is underway is Mongu. They are very cunning and dont want to give up. The only reason they irritate me is that they are very provocative . Lets see how the servant king will handle this situation, and once handled, it should not show its ugly head again.

  5. Shaka Oz Nishani. chalikukalipa sana that MMD lost but the man has been catholic for a long time and can decide to follow the catholic doctrine which he knows best. if it was a pente you would have said AMEN. give us a break with your stupidity.

  6. He told the congregation that his Government will also embrace the fight against corruption because one of the Ten Commandments states that ‘thou shall not steal.”
    Proud of this President.

  7. People cool down. we know the person you supported was clobbered and he will be still clobbered. My fellow Brothers and Sister they should cool down not be incited by some people who lost the election. They are modern ways of giving power to the people. An example is the way they govern themselves in USA.When ever there’s a change people undergo the following stages. Denial, Resistance, Exploration and Commitment. Those that lost the presidence especially UPND members are in phase 1. After Cabinet apointement they will be in phase two. After Independence day they will move to other phases.

  8. HE WAS SUPPORTED BY THE CATHOLIC CHURCH AND NOT BY ALL CHURCHES. WE SHALL SEE WHAT CATHOLIC CHURCH WILL SAY THIS TIME AROUND BECAUSE THEY HAVE MANAGED TO PUT THEIR MAN IN STATE HOUSE. I HAVE BEEN CHECKING ON THE POST NEWSPAPER ONLINE AND THEY HAVE OUTDATED NEWS, WHAT IS GOING ON. STILL SHARING POSTS IN NEW GOVERNMENT?

  9. cool! cool!! Sata is now president for every church or religion in zambia, not forgating how the catholics helped him,so we will give him time to form government and start fighting corruption

  10. ‘Servant King’ is good, and is synonymous with reconciliation. I must say to go to the house of God as a first step and seek wisdom is a very good start for Mr Sata. It does not get any better than this. I went to my church today here in UK and one of the members said to me ‘Well done, Zambia for the peaceful change of power’. I felt blessed. Well done to RB.

  11. PRINCIPLES: meaning they main gist of doing things. Principles tend to be generic and can be applicablein various ways. No one needs to be afraid. If he said “catholic rules or laws” then people would be concerned. For instance, principles of love your neighbour as you love yourself would require giving a chance to his oponents to air their views; allowing people liek LT and ZWD to be as stupid as they can be with their articles; yet be able to accept that they have a choice to use “freedom of expression”. Anyway, am always called a Kaponya so i leave it there ba some-of-us can sort the rest.

  12. It seems to me that all those who were shouting “Sata will never be president” are now beginning to scream “murder!” at everything he says. So why can’t he be a Catholic by confession and still be president of Zambia?

For your own information, the whole world is governed under the principles of the ten commamndments. Every nation of the earth keeps the sabbath by working 6 days and resting a day. The American Dollar bears the words “in God we Trust” and that has never bothered anyone. Do your research and you will see that human beings cannot live without religious guidelines. The very core of human existance which is marriage & the family is protected and upheld by religious values. It is always good to have a president with reverance for God.

    • l have read you comments on this blog for some years now, you are very fair person and what you say makes alot of sense may the good Lord bless you……..These people have always insulted President Sata, now they shall call him his exellency

  13. #7 is very correct. Some evangelical churches openly predicted RB to win as a God given choice. We Catholics didn’t, we were just against the wrongs in RB’s gOVERNMENT was openly doing. Anyone agaisnt SK (Servant King) is in the Post Election Depression mode! Ever head of a Tsunami in land locked Zambia or experienced the 9/11 (9+11 = 20 September) in Zambia where there are no twin towers? These two situations seem to have happened in Zambia big time! Mulekeni ateke!@!

  14. #1 almost made me believe th country is on fire! He can convience anyone that red and black are same colour. I hate people who take so long to accept change. What has Sata said which calls for such aggressive attack? Does he has to switch churches now that he is our president? Are you a Muslim mate? We are a Christian nation and the bible is our word period. Ruling according to the ten commandments is not a bad statement which church does not believe in them? Boring boring accept it,this man has been in the political arena for years he is not from mars  avoid BP and stroke people.

  15. All I wish for you Zambians is that Sata manages to put together a team of honest hardworking men and women who can dedicate their energies towards doing good for the nation and not for themselves. Dont worry about little things like him being catholic.

  16. mr president sata, good speech ofcourse, you need to fight for the corruption.those who stole the money of the zambian citizen they must bring them back. Good step of going to church for the seeking of wisdom to govern the numerous people that God has given you into your hand.Be the example of the christian leader who shall preach peace, love and reconciliations.MY GOD BLESS YOU!!!

  17. #13,
Your have summed it up so brilliantly. Some people are finding it so hard to accept reality, they are still nursing MMD hangovers, the party that took Zambians for granted.

  18. Some of you bloggers are Evil, bad to be in the community of human beings. What is it that the President said wrong??? Do you condone corruption? Please keep to yourselves evil minds Like Chi #1, are you Zambian or from Gambia? This is your country and you should contribute realistically. MMD you have been in Power for 20 failed years, you did a lot of bad things with your Chi William Banda, but people gave you a chance. Please give SATA a chance the way we gave you MMD cadres a chance to mess us up.
Learn to keep quiet and give people a chance.

  19. # 20 ,its just 2 days and not 85 days.come back to reality and not dreaming.please lets support and regroup for econominc devpment, its not easy but the earlier we accept the better for US .i hope u meant remaing.

  20. #1 if u have nothing to coment shut up. Read the article well. Bravo Mr President. Play with Catholic Church and prepare yo own down fall. God bless our Preso!!!!

  21. We told you. Sata has started kusabaila. He is spitting things he does not understand. He says his government we will according to catholic doctrine and yet 2 days ago thre same guy said his party will follow the party doctrine (manifesto) to the letter. Is the PF manifesto centered on the catholic doctrine? The guy is already lost!! The guy has already forgotten that Zambia has a constitution which guides the govenance of the country! I i have just heard my wife in the background say——“Sata is overwhelmed”

  22. The Europeans who introduced Africa to Christianity do nothing of the sort. Yet many presidents there are Christian.  Whats wrong with Africans? I didn’t join PF to be ruled by Catholicism.  i must be ruled by the PF manifesto not the old testament.

  23. Muntu alibe chabwino mwe.what wrong has he done now.i havent been a supporter of man but for once i agree with him.a president who will follow the ten commandment wow we are heading to prosperity for the bible says if you keep my commands and follow all what i say everything you put your hand on shall be successful

  24. Imwe the message is very clear > dont twist it out of context the man is God fearing, exactly what Zambia needs. Some are just scared corruption will no longer be tolerated.

  25. Chi # 1 Ulichipuba nshatala mona, Learn to respect the word of God . The bible states clearly that seek the kingdom of God first and then everry thing shall be added unto you, Also the bible states that Any Authority that does not come from God will not stand. My friend if you are one of the MMD thugs Read again about -Thou shall not steal . Get ready soon because we are now bieng Governed by the Rule of law and not the Rule of Man were you woke up one day and remove the abuse of office clause so the that tax payers money can be free for you and your Gang. Now the law will vist you Criminals and you will be expossed

  26. such matters are sensitive where a head of state is involved but there is nothing wrong by declaring your faith. Everyone is free to say which religion or church they belong to,,,but should someone mention catholic and people are not happy deal with there is only 1 God and i think he doenst care which church you belong to as long as you give him praise and worship

  27. Point of Correction on one of the bloggers. Muslims also believe in the 10 comandments, do not forget that the foundation of the rule of law are the 10 comandments so there is nothing wrong the president has said. He just wanted to reasure the nation that his GRZ will be a GRZ of rule of law

  28. Here we go …. voting for people who do not even understand the same constitution he has sown for, how can you start picking on church of all churches zambia has. He wants to be puppet of the Roman church now.

  29. # 35,there is nothing wrong about the president being a catholic and trying to uphold the Christian values which the catholic follows. If he says hez going to follow the ten commandments it all come to the rule of law.

  30. ZAMBIA WILL BE RULED BY THE CATHOLICS THRU THEIR CATHOLIC DOCTRINE AS STATED BY PRESIDENT SATA. WHAT ABOUT OTHER CHRISTIAN DOCTRINES, THE PROTESTANTS, EVENGELICALS, SEVENTH DAY ADVENTISTS, etc ? food for thought……

  31. Nifwe ba kuwe… bwanji tayambo yopa ma Ten Commandments yanew govt? If you do not break any… you have no reason to fear. TC are not Catholic but values for every God fearing people.

Time to throw out our skeletons from our wardrobes!

  32. Kweeena let’s not mix religion and politics We will end up like Shariah law with leaders who say only God can remove them not the pipo. The old Testament was for the jews Zambians shoud look for their own scriptures

  33. I like the Idea of fair desptribution of wealth. Allas some Zambian’s get salaries as much as K200m per month. This is too much! if the government cud put the muximum any individual cud get as a salary say K50m per month, then the diference cud employ alot of people. Imagine how many people cud a salary each from from K150m?

  34. It’s just an observation. He is the first Catholic president. The 10 commandments are not just for Catholics alone. To be why is it that fingers are poted at Catholics all the time. Can’t we for the sake of Zambia just be Christians. For goodness sake there are some pastors out there who have done some despical things and yet they are at the pulpit collecting money from people for their suita, cars and the women they impregnate. We are human beings and we are not perfect. For once can’t all you Zambians be proud that Zambia has avoided bloodshed, that we are an example for the rest of Africa instead of just insults and nsele at each other. It is so frustrating that people can put so much energy in negative thoughts rather than being positive about people and their own country.

  35. :Its time for the bembasn to rule! Stop whinging and just accept our president(us pf supporters) won. Kwasila. NO MORE chwe chwe chwe ma rubbish! Sata and your team those who voted for you are behind you!

  36. Humans learnt a long time ago before the Middle ages that it is dangerous to marry religion with politics. The Catholics ruled the world in those days and as a church I am very sure they wont support anyone who brings their name into politics. Iam very sure they will distance themselves from the statement that Zambia will be ruled via the 10 commandments. Unlike the Born agains who were excited about Chiluba’s declaration of Zambia as a Christian state the catholics have had the experience of actually ruling and seeing the ensuing oppression and bloodshed. Lets just be practical and separate the state from the church.

  37. #42 Stop tribalising issues. There is no tribe that is ruling here. Why do some of you village brought up thugs want to see things always along tribal lines? The PF is a conglomeration of various indivduals from different tribes. Sata is not even a Bemba but a Bisa like me.

  38. All have fallen short of the glory of God. If the country is to be ruled by the ten commadments as SOPs then starting from the president to you know who…. they are not worthy. Secondly, the president is thanking the church for the prayers offered. Does our president mean the ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH or ??? Much as we love the change that has taken place, am concerned about VATICANISM and its policies. He should be careful on issues of religion and how he will sashila religion & politics.

  39. If i’m not mistaken he said biblical teachings, not catholic teachings. I could be wrong.
It does narrow it to the bible, but maybe what he was implying was the idea of peace, security and love, and all good things . I’m not from your country, but it just looks so promising from where i am. I really wish u all great and wonderful things to flourish in your country.

  40. of course like your website but you have to check the spelling on quite a few of your posts. A number of them are rife with spelling issues and I in finding it very bothersome to inform the reality nevertheless I will certainly come back again.
