Cadres in near punch-up at the Late George Kunda’s funeral

Share

THERE was a near punch-up yesterday outside the Cathedral of the Child Jesus during the requiem service for the Late George Kunda, between cadres from rival camps.

The volatile situation prompted President Michael Sata to direct Inspector General of Police Stella Libongani to get outside and supervise her officers to restore order.

Mr Sata who returned to the podium for the second time having finished his funeral speech informed the gathering that he had just received information that some cadres clad in ‘Don’t Kutina’ T-shirts were causing confusion.

The cadres, who were apparently Dr Nevers Mumba’s supporters, heckled at the sight of other members of political parties.

Mr Sata said there was need for peace and order because people were there to mourn and not causing confusion.

According to sources, a group of youths mainly clad in MMD party regalia that had teamed up with their United Party for National Development (UPND) colleagues got infuriated because they could not get into the church which was full at the time.By the time Ms Libongani went outside, calm had already returned as officers had separated opposing camps that almost got locked in a tussle.

  1. Stop the nosense of putin on party regalia at funerals. It is one of the sources of confusion at funerals. People should learn that funerals are not forums for political bekering but solemn ocasions that should help us reflect on the deceased’s life and to weigh ourselves what we have done and what we ought to do hereafter. Lets ensure that our funerals are characterised by peace and messages of good will. Am disgusted!

  2. It’s high time these Party leaders rose above such nonsense, if Mumba or HH thinks they would get popular with such?? Zambians have gone beyond such. This is a funeral and people should have manners. Where have the Zambian Values gone???? WHAT A SHAME???

  3. Stop this UNCIVILIZED practice please twapapata. Political leaders pls STOP THIS EVIL NOSENCE its tanishing the image of Zambians.Ba Sata talk against this evil with your fellow political leaders kanshi ninshi. We shouldn’t go William Banda’s way of doing things.Twapapata awe mwe!!!!

  4. The solution here is very simple.

Give these imbeci!es three tins of chibuku each, a stick and take them to Independence Statium where they can massage their frustrations in an all out free for all punch up. This kind of stoneage behaviour is not acceptable, but maybe we should give it a chance. People have strange ways of expressing their love for each other.

  5. According to wd it is pf cadres mobilised by the president himself – they were the ones intimidating and beating up mourners – wonder who is reporting the truth – I look for the time when media reporting will be free of political influence and biasnes

  6. @Bwalya, ZWD is for HH so there is nothing good it can write about PF and Sata. Whether the fight started with UPND cadres they always write that the PF started the fight. Including at Nakatindi it was the same

  7. Bwafya, the King has no diplomacy, he would go back to podium 7 times as if he was the master-of-ceremony.
Did the self ordened Pastor without a church attend funeral service?

  8. MCS nids an advisa to be wd hm whereva he goes jst to be teling ds do n ds dont say!I dont just like da way my president comes out in public!whispering to pipo next to hm to tok to IG wudnt hv done?Does he nid all dat show mwebantu?

  9. Dr. Nevers Mumba should not be involved in dirty politics because he was once a pastor in Victory Ministry although he abandoned the flock. A Pastor is a pastor til death.

  10. Foolish cadres, you are busy fighting while the leaders you are fight over are busy laughing and chatting with each other inside the Cathedral. HH, Nevers, and Sata are only enemies in politics. Outside politics they are not. Put it in your heads.

  11. Ati the cadres were clad in Don’t Kutina T-shirts, thats why some people are so dull. If you love the use of Slogans, why don’t you coin your own slogan instead of borrowing words from others especially that you claim not to like their slogan. Shame

  12. Thats how the president should be, order the police to conduct peace, not chi RB, icakwebati william bamba cimbokaila alesamwa president alemupa nolupiya

  13. still feel presidents speech in church was inappropriate. It was embarrasing to say the least. There is a time for everything.
