Zambia: MMD in Kafue happy with news to hold convention
The MMD in Kafue district has welcomed party Deputy National Chairman Jeff Kaande’s announcement that the ruling party will hold its national convention next year.
Kafue District MMD Treasurer John Mwansa told ZANIS in Kafue today that holding a convention will enable MMD members to elect leaders of their choice.
Mr. Mwansa said MMD was founded on democratic principles and it was therefore going to be unconstitutional to forgo the national convention.
He said the convention was unavoidable because most of the positions in the National Executive Committee (NEC) are held on an acting capacity, including the position of the president.
Mr. Mwansa explained that avoid holding the national convention would have divided the ruling party, noting that some leaders in the NEC need to be replaced them with people that have fresh ideas.
He noted that the convention does not deal with elections alone but also reviews the challenges and progress of the party in other areas such as finances, membership and manifesto.
Mr. Mwansa has meanwhile challenged the opposition Patriotic Front and United Party for National Development (PF/UPND) pact and other opposition political parties to emulate the ruling party by holding conventions.

The MMD is a democratic party that follows democratic principles. This is why the MMD is truly the party of the people.
Other opposition parties have never held a convention ever since they where formed and have had the same party president who has lost in all the 3 elections the party has taken part in.
The MMD has always practiced democracy and this is why in 2016, the MMD would have recorded 25 years in power and will most likely remain in power to achieve Zambia’s economic agenda unless a credible opposition shows up.

National conventions only make sense if they enable a whole new breed of young, dedicated leaders with a vision and plan for the country to be elected. Otherwise its just another waste of time and money.

You’re being a nuisance. Where in my post have I suggested that the opposition should hold a convention. All I have made is an observation. My observation is that some opposition parties have never held a convention. The opposition can do whatever they want.
I will speak on democratic principles the MMD follows because they have always followed these principles ever since it was formed. Holding conventions is part of the democratic principles the MMD follows. This is why I said what I said in my post @ #2.

Kafue MMD treasurer, John Mwansa says most of the positions in the NEC currently are being held on an acting capacity including that of president. Watch out Mr Mwansa, don’t talk much on RB’s position, you could be sacked tomorrow for indiscipline. Remember RB is breathing fire right now and is threatening to sack his cabinet.

I’m so supprized by these kafue Lunatics. The Town has been turned into a ghost town by the MMD as all meanigful industries shut down (NCZ) or sold to quaks (Kafue Textiles) with very poor roads that have lakes for potholes across the roads, high crime rate heavy unemployment levels. The area MP does not even show up. ha kwena pa Zed kuti waseka mwe. The MMD wont win this time in Kafue mark my words.
