First Lady Thandiwe Banda has commended the Chinese government for its investment in Zambia. She urged Chinese Ambassador to Zambia Li Qiangmin to woo more investors from his country to Zambia in an effort to develop the country.

Mrs. Banda further commended the Chinese government for identifying Zambia as their preferred destination for investment. The First Lady said this in Lusaka today when she toured Huazhan Manufacturing Company, Huawei Tele-communications and Golden Bridge Hotel to familiarize herself with their operations.

The First Lady was accompanied Vice President George Kunda’s wife, Ireen, ministers’ spouses, Chinese Ambassador to Zambia Li Qiangmin’s wife Zeng Hongyan and senior members of staff from the Chinese Embassy.

She expressed gratitude at the level of investment the firms have injected into the Zambian economy and hoped that the lives of Zambian people would be accelerated to enjoy the benefit of the investments in the country.

“I’m impressed with the level of investment the Chinese government has injected into our economy. If we had more committed investors like Huazhan Company, Huawei Tele-communications and Golden Bridge Hotel, our people can begin to see a brighter side of life. You would not have come to invest in our economy if the investment climate was not conducive and please continue being a true partner of Zambia,” Mrs Banda said.

She further pointed out that China and Zambia both enjoy warm bilateral relations that have continued to flourish from the 1960s.[quote]

“Such investments we have seen today do contribute massively to the improvement of relations between the two countries. Real partnership demands that both parties benefit and please do carry a massage to other investors back in your country that in Southern Africa, Zambia is on the move into the right direction due to the friendly, supportive and genuine investment initiatives,” Mrs Banda said.

She assured that Zambia is on the right track to becoming a middle income country by the year 2030 as exhibited by the fast rate of development due to government’s political will and fiscal policies.

Meanwhile, Huawei Zambia Managing Director Dajiang Xin revealed that his firm has projected a US$30 billion profit this year compared to US$23 billion in 2008. Mr. Xin further said Huawei has created over 2,000 jobs for the local people and assured that Zambia stands to benefit greatly from China.

He said Huawei is geared to transform the corporate market in the country in a competitive manner but most importantly add value to the Zambian products.

And Chinese Ambassador to Zambia Li Qiangmin has disclosed that at least 200 companies from China will come in the country before the end of this year and over 100,000 jobs will be created in Zambia next year.
The Chinese Envoy commended President Rupiah Banda for his good administration and urged the two peoples from both countries to rally behind and support President Banda to finish his vision.

  1. Thandie is beautiful. She just lucks character and as such appears lifeless.

This can be attributed to her having an old spouse who does not initiate any stimulating activities physically or intellectually.

  2. Thandiwe is ugly. Her big expenses on make-up have tried to improve her looks. Imagine Thandiwe living in Shang’ombo, everyday going to the field to cultivate! That aside, praises for Chinese again, we praise them for making a lot of profit for themselves from us! Zambia, middle class country by 2030??? Dreamland!!!

  3. Awe Thandiwe na samba icine cine, elyo alemoneka gudu.
When is her shikulu RB Banda dying so that I can collect imishingo?
    Wapya baisa!!!!!!!!!!!!111

  4. #1-3 How about commenting on her speech first and the on her looks later? After all beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder…

As for her lecture on investment, I’m really not sure if she said this on her own accord or someone just used her as a mouthpiece. I think she scores better when she deals with social and family -related issues rather than economic or political ones. Bloggers, what do you think?

  5. First leady says Zambia will be a middle income country by 2030? . Is this a borrowed statement or it is from her research findngs.? We need to know much of this extrapolation of econometrix source as she may mislead he country with such very careless assurance statements. What do you mean economically by a middle income country? is the claimed fast rate of development justfied by high standards of living among the Zambians or it is just the cheap labour source the Chinese have found in our Country? We need further explanations.

  6. Am not been spiteful, I honestly do not know whar Mrs Sata looks like come to think of it, we have seen HH’s wife, but not Sata’s. It could do good the old man some image building if we saw what our would be first lady looks like, anyone with a link perhaps.

On the Chinese investment, as much as we need these investors, we must ensure that we have the necessary laws protecting our people from exploitation, otherwise I am positive economically this is your time Zambia.

  7. This business of parading some of these so-called ‘first ladies’ to read out statements and speeches they don’t even understand is pathetic. What does Thandiwe know about investment and the economy? It’s like these MMD cadres appointed as Permanent secretaries, what development can Zambia expect.

  8. Jealous down!.Thandiwe has improved. On her economic rhetoric,Its better to leave that to persons like Mutati to expound.

  9. jealous down….this lady came in as a village chicken, i am sure she has changed her designers keep it up.Hey Thandi u look cute

  10. Yes she has improved after spending a lot on make-up! Now imilomo are just too big! That aside, it was a speech written for her, ask her about it the next day, she would not be able to tell u what she said let alone understanding it!

  11. Thandiwe will better be advised to concentrate on orphans stay away from issues she cannot handle when questions beyond her comprehension arise. But, as is always the case these things are stage-managed. She can only be exposed to carefully selected questions from The Times of Zambia, and Zambia Daily Mail while sensible and real questions from seriuos paper are barred from asking her. As someone has mentioned already, I don’t think shes able to conduct a research, analyse, data, and draw up her own conclusion worth publication.

  12. Why is it every Thandiwe banda post always invites scorned comments about her outlook from female resident bloggers. It must take some serious lack of self esteem and jealousy to constantly think the same comments over and over in everywhere she is mentioned. I don’t care for teh first lady much but it seems some people on here take berating her as a career . If you constantly talk of ones looks then you are probably not comfortable with your own and your only expression is viseral ramblings that really paint a true picture of you. I have never seen a bitter beautiful woman in my whole life

  13. Why can’t they woo their own Zambian people as investors in diaspora ???? Is MMD only vision external…what plans do they have to empower local Zambians.

  14. What investments is Thandie talking about? When are we going to stop begging from outsiders to fix our problems? The government must promote zambian investments instead of begging from people who down upon black people.

  15. Naka wigi ka pa kamwala….ninshi sibanamange sis ka, elo tie n dye baikonda, kulibe vovala vinangu shuwa

  16. This Huawei company and it’s profits. A projected $30 billion this year. Is that purely from operations in Zed or from it’s global operations?… L T , a bit more info about the business activities of these companies would be helpful .
Otherwise this is good for government coffers.

  17. I want all of you to listen, 20 yrs ago China was in a worst situation than Zambia these people are hard working we can all learn from them,They do their research and put their plans to work.To day China is the one most biggest holder of the American notes, We the Americans have been helped by China. My advice to the Zambians is work and partner with China they have the money and you have the resources which they need to build their country.Mrs Banda job well done.

  18. #24,,,you are being very economical with the trueth, do a bit of research first before you blog or else we will start doubting your intelligence, here’s some research i’ve done, just to enlighten you: China 20yrs ago,ie,1989: GDP index in real terms was 1279.8, real annual growth rate 4.1%,now for Zambia,in 1989 GDP: $2.0 billion, per capita $240; real growth rate – 0.2% (1989)
To make matters worse you are saying we americans, how about you going to zambia and develop it….Mrs Banda, job well done! for reading a speach lol

  19. First lady, advise your husband, our President to take control on mining taxes, the so called investors are “raping” us economically. Our advice to Mr. Rupiah Banda is falling on deaf ears, I hope someone reads this and hints to you. If this is not watched, Zambia will begin to witness xenophobia and attacks on Mwenyes and others, I see this coming. Zambians have a raw deal in their God – given resource, Copper and related metals.

  20. The first lady must have been reading LT bloggers and decided to get a hair stylist and quit that mbaula and hot comb shokaling thing.

  21. Be honest for once, ka gelo aka looks good in this photo, ni game meat iyi baba!! Its good for our president cuz it acts like a stimulus package for him and he needs that so he can serve us better!

  22. I’m cool with the Chinese investing in Zambia. I know they may occasionally over work their employees and are usually culprits of human rights violations but the rich Zambian people don’t do sh!t to offset that. Zambian rich folk specialize in stealing public funds and spending it elsewhere. Eff them! Until we see more of an influx of Zambians investing in their own country we just have to go along with whomever comes to give us a hand.

  23. The President is working hard to bring you foreign investment, Your elite are spending their money in South Africa and overseas But the Chinese are bringing you investments be Thankful you Punks and speak well of your leaders.

  24. Who gave Thandie the manuscript? Mutati’s wife? She should not have picked the Chinese topic, there’s plenty in our poor country’s basket.

  25. But you lied about the fact that China was worse off 20yrs ago than Zambia ba wishi, and now you are calling people Punks, and come to think of it,when someone invests in Zambia, its not like they are doing us a favour, infact they are reaping more,if not they wouldnt have bothered, its a two way thingy

  26. Some of you bloggers should do a lot more research before you start exposing your ignorance on China in full view of other bloggers. To compare China twenty years ago to Zambia, is not only misplaced, but an insult to Economics as a subject! And lets not worry about Thandies script. We all know who writes those things.
Ladies, swallow your pride and give a big big big-up to the First Lady’s looks!! Kwena wamoneka bwino mama. Naka wig, ka. Nanga dress iyo? Ni crimplini nangu ni schiphoni? Congrats!

  27. kali na potential potential imweeeee, simuona ve ni’onaaa ka’ lina potential, olo sisi sikanamange kalipe ize kapyangaaa munyumba
    Chinese investments,,naka wig kaku china

  28. Employ me as chief Accountant in one of these companies, so that we can develop the nation together. Not bringing exp. from abroad

  29. 15 and 16 you are right, her outlook is not the issue here it’s… Oh Gosh! let me read the story before i comment…

  30. People respect this woman she is our first lady even if RB is truely a man in charge with no plan whatsoever but the wife is not vocal, she is just unfortunate to marry an old man.By the way how did he manage to convince her?

  31. Our dear first lady has tremendously changed. She looks Cute. But looks like has started enjoying being in the limelight of late!

  32. Thandi is a school teacher and therefore educated to know what shes’ talking about .Whats wrong with you crosspondence grads, street sweepers tell yours sisters to get married to Satana maybe they will be first ladies as well.

  33. There is alot to be done on Thandie! she is till lagging behind in terms of looks and dressing! Only saw her once, so you mean she was worse than this? OMG!

  34. Ba #21, your Lusaka Nyanja sounds so good…nikudala ni namvelako va soo…..

Of course Thandi looks great in here. Nothing wrong in commenting how one looks…

  35. Iwe #46 stop self praise. I know you are also #21 and you want to pretend you are not one and the same person. Anyway you are allowed to practice your Lusaka nyanja lest you forget your local vibe while in the diaspora. As for #21 submission, you are just sour grapes.

  36. #48, I would’t be surprised if you said #20.#21, #25, 32, 41 is me as well. Suit yourself.
The fact is Iam not #21 and he/she could be laughing at you right now..

Hehhhhh! Welcome back Ba Moze @ #33… you are on the voting roll for LT. big thumbs up for you….

  37. Thandiwe ‘s hellmet hair style does not fit her facial image. Locking her fingers is a no no for First Lady image . The hanging lip should be taken care off. It is go for a blow job.

  38. you are all jealous mulekeni umwine tandi she is wonderfully made and she is on top you can’t even catch up with her so lekeni ukubosa.

  39. She looks like a village ‘virgin’….She is now meddling in politics, she will get bruised…..She should pay attention to family issues …orphans, AIDS..NOT international relations. She is too raw..

  40. I’m sure the Chinese Government is having wet dreams now that some irrelevant village ho has commended them
