Zambia: Dont delay cases, Justice Sakala

Chief Justice, Ernest Sakala, has called on Magistrates to ensure cases are disposed off quickly so that justice is not delayed.

Justice Sakala notes that unnecessary adjournments may lead to unfair trial and denial of justice.

He says the Judiciary must strive to inspire Public confidence in the delivery of justice

The chief Justice says this is because democracy depends on the delivery of Justice and the rule of Law.

Justice Sakala was speaking in Lusaka at the official opening of a one day workshop for Lusaka based Magistrates.

The Chief Justice also emphasised the need for adjudicators to acquire more knowledge as they administer justice.

Justice Sakala said some cases have taken several years to be disposed off and this has become a great concern.

We are not GULLIBLE bwana Chief Justice. We know how easy it is to secure a conviction in Zambia if the Plot One Occupant (President) says so. You are a boring and uninspiring Public Office bearer. Actually, watching or hearing you speak is like watching paint dry. ITS BORING! How I wish we had people in offices like yours that will inspire confidence in faces of the down trodden members of the society. But alas, in Zambia its only those with XXL pants-FAT CATS-that see justice as for the rest its GOD HELP US!!!! and GOD HELP US indeed because our country is slowly creeping into a shell of lawlessness that is disguised in democracy amidst state sanctioned intimidation of divergent views.

I think this man is the actual deterant to jutice. His title speaks of Chief Justice but his deeds are unjust. Can he himself being the top man in the law hierarchy tell us the justfication of some well known cases taking 7 years going back and fro? Meanwhile his juniors are trickling with mulla while the general populace is maulesi. Justice in Zambia is equivalent to the piece of paper with and EAGLE and some serial number. Sometime ago this paper bore the head of one person believed to be stateless at one point.

Miyanda has the best experience where Justice is concerned. Petitions are the talk of the day and one petition may last atleast 5 years and all Miyanda has to say now is that ELECTIONS WERE FREE AND FAIR, reason, the presidential petition he did taught him one thing, Justice is not for the POOR.

The Chief Justice should have lamped all courts together and asked them to pull up their soaks. There are cases which started in 1998 still in going backward and forward because of political pronouncements and due to the incompetence of Judges. The Judicially has a long way to go Zambia. To start with the courts buildings need a make over or tiding up.

Aawa mwabandika nobapatipati. I hope this has fallen on open ears. Let us beging to do things like Zimbabwe which is highly in trouble economically and financially but is doing well in the court cases of all sorts in terms of expeditious handling of all of them.
