State cracks the whip on early marriages

earlymarriageRufunsa area Member of Parliament Kenneth Chipungu has directed education authorities and police to conduct an audit of girls that have been removed from school and married off in Rufunsa area of Chongwe district.

This follows a drastic reduction in school attendance by the girl-child in the constituency attributed to early marriages.

Mr. Chipungu , who is also Sport, Youth and Child Development minister, appealed to parents and guardians to cooperate with school authorities and law enforcement agents in a bid to put an end to early marriages.

The lawmaker lamented that early marriages are retrogressive as they hinder the academic progression of the girl-child.

Speaking when he addressed the Rufunsa Community yesterday, Mr. Chipungu observed that early marriages would make it impossible to attain the 50 percent SADC gender protocol on women.

Mr. Chipungu has since urged all members of the community to report cases of early marriage to law enforcement agencies as early marriages are serious offences that attract stiff punishment.

  1. Well done government. But, don`t just stop there, send these girls to school create jobs for them. Please drop this girl child term. It`s segregative

    J shani?

    • Doing fine. Also extend my greetings to you. You are right these girls also need a big portion of emancipation. Away with the belief that only a man makes a household..

  2. This Mudala is back with this sickly baby and girl-child wife. Now what is this 50 percent SADC gender protocol on women? Any one to share a light?

    • Any economical, venture shall consitute at least 50% women for it to be funded or to attract government attention, say in universities, schools, work places, etc.Trying to empower the woman

    • Thanks for the Data Ba Ghost Dog. Ok that is good news for the SADC Region. Has this been implemented or is this just mere talk as usual and as always?????

  3. its really terrible and keeping us behind from developing…they even get married to boys/men who aren’t even b able to tek care of themselves. increasing poverty paercentage. and what does the “50 percent SADC gender protocol on women” say??

  4. Oh no, not that picture again please! Last time it spoiled my day. Anyways, at least the state is now doing something about it.

  5. Hey!People, what can a man get from such a paediatric mother?Be it in the kitchen, making plans together and let alone in the bedroom! The law is very weak.Start by charging men who marry such little ones with child rape and charge the parents/guardians of the girl money laundering because thats not the right way to make money.

  6. This grandfather girl-child ‘defiler’ is a bit nauseting, quiet an upsetting picture. My stomach churns at every thing this man has done to this girl though it was consensus.

  7. I think it is high time the govt did this in all the rural districts. I am positively sure that those who will be arrested will be too numerous to keep in our cells. For starters someone has woken up.

  8. Wow, nice couple on the picture. this is bad, look at how the husband is lookinf sure

  9. the old granny is a lousy low life…i just cannot imagine how he does his husband duties with his grand daughter.

  10. With such a law in place why can’t the govt provide free primary and secondary education for both sexes? If there is determination to educate not only the girl child, but both boys and girls, please ensure that enough resources are provided for building new basic and high schools, many more quality teachers are trained. Instead of RB flying around the world as an international tourist, let that money be put to good use. The govt cannot say we have no money when someone is just flying all over the place spending tax payer’s money. Let us use that money wisely, e.g. on education, medicine, agriculture, road infrastructure, etc.
