Share

Nkana FC opened up a 13-point lead at the top of the Faz division 1 north league table after beating Muchindu 1-0 away in Mufulira this afternoon.

The fallen recored 11-time top-flight champions are unbeaten since the start of the season and now on a maximum 33 points from eleven league games played in division 1 north.

DR Congo-born striker Patrick Kambamba scored the games lone goal in the second half to keep Nkana in command of 1 north and are now clear favorites for promotion with just four games before the midway point of the season fast approaching.

2nd placed Lime Hotspurs and 3rd positioned INDENI, who share 20 points each, suffered similar 2-0 defeats at home and away to Prison Leopards and Kalewa respectively this weekend.

Chambishi meanwhile failed to capitalize on those results at Garden Park today to leap into 2nd place after squandering a 1-0 first half lead to finish 1-1 away with hosts Kitwe United this afternoon.

Aggrey Chiyangi’s sides started off brightly taking a 30 minute lead through Edward Sinkala.

United, who were under new assistant coach Alex Musungu who was standing in for his also recently appointed boss Emmanuel Siwale currently on Under 20 duty, equalized six minutes after the break.

Striker Chasala Mwandama leveled scores thanks to a fine through-ball from midfielder and Captain Richard Mooka with the former chipping the ball over the Chambishi goalkeeper to see his side share the 1 point with the away side.

United are 11th on 9 points from 10 games after today’s draw, their first points after two successive defeats.

Afrisports are 5th after drawing 1-1 on Saturday away to 7th placed Mufulira Blackpool where they came behind after the hosts took the early lead through Chris Katebe in the 8th minute.

Captain and midfielder Mwila Kabwe equalized for Afrisports in the 29th minute.

In the days other week 11 division 1 north results, Chindwin beat Medical 1-0 in Ndola while Mufulira Wanderers exchanged places with Ndola United with the former moving from 13th to 12 after they stayed unbeaten for a third straight match.

Wanderers beat bottom of the table Police Blue eagles 1-0 away at Kamfinsa with Kennedy Chinfwembe there scoring the games lone goal.

The match between away side Ndola United and 2nd from bottom Konkola Mine Police did not take place after the visitors suffered a mechanical breakdown on their way to Chililabombwe.

  3. Wounded Buffaloes, once our dreaded force! (Not Ba Power! Just some History guys!)

Playing Buffaloes in the late 70s was not fun, especially if you were a Rokana fan! The army-sponsored wounded Buffaloes, also known as GBFC (Green Buffaloes Football Club) were a terror to play with. Their players were soldiers that were physically fit and very strong indeed. A lesson our young players should emulate.

Kapela Katumba, Pele Kaimana, Francis Kajiya, Obby Kapita, Jones Chilengi, Milton Muke are among the great names that I can recall from the late 1970s squad. Like their fellow soldiers (Red Arrows ZAF-sponsored club) their arrival in Kitwe was intimidating what with the increased presence of the police and the army, these games had the atmosphere that was always charged with great expectation.

My late friend James Banda, who was a supporter of Buffaloes always remembered Dennis Liwewe’s comments at Independence Stadium in crucial Cup games and teased me with them! “Buffaloes are passing through Rokana defense like a hot knife through melting butter!” They sometimes arrived by army buses or by choppers and trooped onto and out of the turf in a single file! Kajiya’s legs were like steal and these men never ran out of gas! Obby played for Zambia, and so was Jones. Kajiya often played for Zambia B.

The guys were “bad” and what Nkana did not like most about them is that they intimidated everybody including the referees! However, they were one of Zambia’s great football teams and Nkana too were no pushovers because the stone throwers of Wusakile/Chamboli were no dogs that would tuck their tails under, and this, the Kamfinsa Mobile Unit and Kitwe Police, were aware of! But of course the resurgent once unbeaten Nkana of the ‘80s and 90s was Kalampa for real!”

  4. Go Nkana Go!!! Go Kalampa Goal!!! It has been a long wait. We need you in the FAZ/KCM super league.

  5. nalelo eeeh!! ba nkana ba bwela, nalelo eeeh ba nkana ba wila!!! Ime ba Power FC muli baiche sana

  6. nalelo eeeh!! ba nkana ba bwela, nalelo eeeh ba nkana ba wila!!! Imwe ba Power FC muli baiche sana.

  7. “Ba Mighty Iwina Ichugulo!” It is really sad to see you also languishing in the lower ranks were you do not belong as well. It is a very painful experience. I do know that just as we are discussing our political problems that complicated into economic ones, also never spared our great football teams like Mighty. I still recall names such as the Nkole brothers, Ashos Melu, Ackim Musenge, Evans Katebe, Efford Chabala, Evans Musonda, Great Kalu to name a few. “From nowhere, it was a goal!” And we used to say, “Ba Mighty umuti!” Great days those were. I know the loss of the National Team in that plane crash, privatization, poor economy, poor administration in FAZ, government and clubs and poor youth nursery has contributed to the demise of the once glamour clubs of Zambian soccer. Remember we had “Ajax” at Nkana and several youth clubs in Kitwe including those that were in the Copperbelt Amateur League, Division II and III not to mention Zambia Schools, Zambia A, B and C and “Ba second, i.e. the B sides. Primary schools also played competitively every week. Hunger and disease has also affected our game losing several talented players over the years. Now what is the way forward? If the management of Mufulira mines injected money into the club and gave more enumerations that would encourage the players, we could see Mighty back. Promise them with big money if they get the club back to the premier league could be helpful. The other thing Ba Mighty, you always get good players from that “country!” Go get ‘em! All the best Ba Mighty!
