Weekend Football Wrap up

Share

The race for the Faz Premier League title is getting tighter while in division 1 north, Nkana’s continues on its ugly freefall.

They were scoreless draws in the battle for second place between Zanaco and Lusaka Dynamos on Saturday at Queensmead where opposing fans spent most of the second half brawling rather than cheering their sides.

And a 2-0 away win for Kabwe Warriors at 2004 league champions Red Arrows saw the Railwaymen leap from 4th to 2nd by the end of play in Week 18 on Saturday.

A brace from midfielder Siloni Jere saw Warriors move within four points of leaders Zesco United whose game was one of four draws in the top-flight on Saturday.

The biggest cheer in the top flight on Saturay was reserved for hosts Power Dynamos benefited from some slapstick tactics courtesy of Forest Rangers coach Mathews Njovu.

Power won 5-1 to record their biggest and fifth win of the season after 18 games played by Fodson Kabole’s team.

Next week, Power travel to Zanaco to play the second installment of one of this seasons must-see rivalries on the pitch.

The first leg played on May 9 at Arthur Davies stadium ended in a riveting 2-2 draw.

And in division 1 north, Chambishi FC continued to cut away at Nkana’s once runaway lead with a 2-0 victory over their guests in Chambishi in this first-versus-second showdown played on Sunday amid ugly scenes in the final ten minutes.

The match was stopped in the 80th minute after a Clement Mulenga equalizer with Chambishi leading 1-0 was ruled offside forcing play to be suspended for five minutes as Nkana fans rioted from the stands while mobile police from Kamfinsa restored order.

When the game did resume, Chambishi had the final say with the games second goal deep into injury time of the 90 minutes to see Nkana’s lead cut from 5 to 2 points.

Nkana are on 41 points while Chambishi are on 39 points as their once “unassailable” 14-point that run from March to early May continues to crumble to dust.

  1. Just some corrections on Nakambala Leopards V Green Buffaloes. It is not Lawrence Milanzi who scored both goals, He scored first and the other goal was scored by Maxwell Mulenga (Guacho)

    In good faith.

  2. It seems all the forces are againts NKANA. In this game NKANA managed to equalize the 1-0 lead by chambeshi FC but whilst the fans where celebrating the Linesman managed to convince the the referee that that it was not a goal. Nkana ended up losing the game because of poor officiating.

The same thing happened in the Kalewa game and a couple of other games NKana has lost. FAZ seem not to be doing anything about it.

It is time we saw some referees being punished for poor officiating just that some clubs are punished because of bad behaviour of their fans.

It seems we have put so much power in the referee. These guys are therefore prone to corruption.

The referee’s decision should never be final!!!!
    ABASH incompetent referees abashi.

  3. Just looked at the under 20 team. We have the shortest players compared to our 3 rivals in our group. Our tallest is Kachinga at 171m. The shortest in the Spanish Squad is 171m while the tallest is 190m. The weight of the other players is much more than that of ours at 65 as the most built while all our opposition are between 65 and 88kg. This will surely be a disadvantage to our under 20’s. I wonder if all these players from other countries are really under 20.

  4. I think being well built as a soccer player is an added advantage. Look at west africans, Senegal, Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Nigeria, north africans like Egypt do well because players are well built. If you look at the team we had from 1994 to 1996, we had well built players like Bubble and older brother Mordon Malitoli, Gibby Mbasela, Andrew Tembo, Elijah Tana, Wawa Chongo etc. I dont know is it the diet that has changed in the country? Nonetheless, most south americans are small but they do well.
I dont know, judge for yourselves.

  5. Anonymous SA I have just looked at fifas website

Zambia have the shortest players and the weight is not so much, however if we could beat Cameroon and Egypt who I think are big then their is hope. Of course we are at a disadvantage that all players are below 1,71 meters with some even being 1.50 meters tall. Let us wait and see
