The Task force on Corruption has recovered assets worth over K116 billion which were plundered, stolen or unlawfully obtained during the period 1991 to 2001.
Task Force Public Relations Officer Victor Makayi disclosed to ZANIS today that of
the K116 billion recovered, K85 billion worth of assets have been surrendered to the
state for disposal by Cabinet Office.
Mr. Makayi said so far the surrendered property has already been disposed off by
Cabinet Office through two auction sales conducted last year and this year
respectively.
He explained that several motor vehicles, landed and machinery worth over K20
billion has not yet been disposed off.
He however said a third auction sale would soon be conducted at which the property
which is not yet disposed would be sold off.
“There has also been recorded cash and other asset recoveries at home and abroad,
including the 30 Belgium apartments worth over US$8 million. Cash recovered through
Task Force investigations has normally been surrendered to the Ministry of Finance
Asset Recovery Account kept with Bank of Zambia,” he said.
He further said government would soon decide on what should be done with the
proceeds of the Task force successful asset recovery programme.
Mr. Makayi said the Task Force on Corruption was resolved to continue managing its
civil and criminal cases by its Judicial System.
“Delays experienced in dispensing justice is a matter that is being addressed. And
of late the courts have demonstrated concern that justice be delivered on time,” he
said.
Last week, President Levy Mwanawasa said he had asked cabinet office to decide on
whether to continue with it or not, depending on how much money was available.
Dr. Mwanawasa said cabinet would decide whether to disband the Task force on
Corruption and concentrate on the existing law enforcement agencies such as the
Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
Who held those assets? Why cant you tell the truth? The money is not enough more money has been recovered. This plundering in Zambia has is continious because LPM has failled to account for money that been recovered.
Why dont the Task Force recover the plundered UNZA land from Chuchu and his minions as well? I am sure those assets are already plundered again by Chuchu and his minions in MMD.
When and where were these auctions held????…no doubt the big boys got their bids acepted first…..
The best thing Task Force can do is to end the former presidents case. This will bring more impact as telling us that this money has been recovered.

Magistrate’s Court warns Chimumbwa

THE Lusaka Magistrate Court has warned that it will issue a bench warrant against MMD aspiring candidate for Nchanga Constituency, Charles Chimumbwa, if he fails to appear at the next hearing.
The case against Chimumbwa was due for trial yesterday but the defence informed the court that he was absent.
Chimumbwa is charged with obtaining money by false pretenses.

Sata was issued with a travel document which he used to return home yesterday.
After arriving at 06:00 hours, Sata first visited, around 08:00 hours, the Passports office on Lusaka’s Cairo Road to have his lost passport replaced. He only left after 09:45 hours for the US embassy. He later shuttled between South African Airways and the US embassy where he was organising an air ticket and a visa, respectively.
When approached for comment, the hotly hostile Sata refused to give details. Asked why he had prematurely returned home, Sata said: “Nothing. I came back to check on Mr. Amos Malupenga to get more information about the Chinese.”
Asked to explain what happened to his passport, Sata said nothing happened and he was continuing with his journey there and then.
Sata was then rushed to the airport by his vice-president Dr Guy Scott to board a South African Airways. At the airport, Sata was met by another Post reporter whom he gave an interview.
He said his passport was stolen by a Chinese porter at Crown Plaza Hotel where he was keeping up in London. Sata said he had reported the matter to the police and was going back to accomplish his mission of discrediting China.”MMD survives on the Chinese; the Chinese are very unpopular around the world and people have to fight them wherever they are,” Sata said.

They are not investors, they are invaders. They have invaded here, they are not bringing development but they are creating employment for themselves.

Sata’s mission of fighting the Chinese is what one would call “a mission in futility”. Any person with a knowledge of even the most basic of economics would see clearly that China is an emerging superpower. For a single mongrel “molecule” from Mbeya in Tanganyika and Chatulika village kwa-Nabwalya to think he can stop them from ascending to their deserved seat in the world, he must be very mad in the head. Drawing a trade roadmap with China is what’s needed, not barking aimlessly mad dog style.
