Zesco labeled ‘incompetent’ in Kalomo

Share

Residents of Bwacha compound in Kalomo have accused zesco in the area of being incompetent in their operations.

The residents, who spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of victimization, told ZANIS in Kalomo yesterday that the power utility company has failed to electrify their compound despite assurances from the management.

The residents said it was unfortunate that zesco has failed to honour its promises after it advised the residents to apply for the service in September last year.

A check by ZANIS yesterday revealed that most houses in Bwacha had solar panels mounted on the roofs as the only means for power generation.

And Bwacha compound chairperson, Emmarson Munkombwe, said Zesco advised the residents to apply for power in September last year and over 200 people applied, but up to date nothing tangible has been done by the company despite the residents having paid for the service charges.

Mr. Munkombwe said Zesco’s reluctance in electrifying the compound was a sign that it is not ready to do the electrification exercise as earlier promised, and wondered why the process has taken long when the compound is near the zesco pylon system connection.

Efforts to get a comment from the local Zesco branch proved futile by press time.

  1. kuyuma yuma basa. You are better of with your solar system at least no load shedding for you guys.Zesco has failed all of us.

  2. Zesco is an incopetent company. The MD Sisala need to be fired.Have never seen such an incompentent i.d.i.ot.We have enough hydropower in zambia but these so called id.iots have faild to harness power. They are now subjecting us to load sheeding.Ba makaka ba zesco mwanya.

  3. Bwacha residents, stick to your solar panels; when you get connected to ZESCO, you will be subjected to load-shedding. This country runs on auto-pilot, to read “by the grace of God”. We let things get so bad before we correct them. Now it is going to cost US$1 billion to erect another hydro power station, and we are going to borrow from IFC/World Bank. The incompetence is not just in the Sisala-led company, but the nation as a whole

  4. ZESCO warned of this crisis a couple of years ago. Did anyone who is supposed to do something about it listen? Clearly not. If only we would fund capital projects the way we fund useless parliamentary bye-elections. When it’s capital projects, our leaders say there is no money in the treasury, and they start making appeals to donors; when it is a bye-election, money comes from the same treasury that is allegedly cash-less. What irony!

  5. Zesco is so incompetent coz of ka sisala, Plz fire dis guy.It doest have 2 tlk a rocket scientist 2 tell us the our incompetent sisala is. eva since he tok office they bin 4 black out national wide. This guy is putting national security @ gr8 risk.We all knw sisala is related 2 moureen.bt common pipo dis guy hs failed us.Wen former of zesco MD mwansa,We neva experienced these black out. ITS ALL BULL SHIT.FIRE KA SISALA.

  6. Analyst, on paragraph 4, walasa iwe.The other major problem is having the family tree heading this parastal company.By the way, what qualifications does Chishala oh, Sisala have?ZESCO is better managed by an engineer who understands the core problem of the company and not some wara wara like Chishala.
The incompetence is also with plot__________ who up to now cannot appoint a deputy in one the defence wings and its now over 2 months.Do you see where am heading to?

  7. I personally called Botswana Power Corporation and they confirmed we are still exporting 350 megawatts of electricity yet we are in blackouts.
What a moronic government there is in Zambia!

  8. Zesco ooh, Parastataloooh????Chief Executive ancle, Human resources manager cousin,Chief accountant brother in law,Technical Manager brother, what more do you expect, its zimwa light.Who will work?Even if you are absent nothing will happen.

  9. Zesco need a stronger competitor! this time they can do wat they feel coz they are alone! try to bring in another company or companies dealing in Power! they will pull up their socks.

Firing the MD won’t soght out the problem!

  10. Editor,
The issue of ZESCO power black outs and load shedding is very serious which, in my view, deserves urgent and honest answers. These answers should come not only from ZESCO management but also from Government.

Zambians should demand honest answers from the energy minister, and even from the republican president, His Excellency Dr. Patrick Levy Mwanawasa State Counsel, because the negative effects of these black are so severe to be ignored. Patients are dying in hospitals because life saving machines can not operate when hospitals are load shed! The other day a kid died in Livingstone while another was reported to be fighting for his life after their house caught fire when ZESCO re

Electrical appliances have been blown off because electricity consumers are never informed about the timings of these power cuts, thereby failing to effectively plan when and when not to keep them on. Production in industries has suffered setbacks to the extent that companies may fail to achieve their production targets and profitability.

I find it not logical to be referring to these black outs as a ‘regional thing’. If Zambia has an independent hydro-power generation infrastructure, how do we get affected by power shortages experienced in South Africa which uses coal and steam engines to generate its electricity? There are strong rumors that senior

  12. ZESCO management and a few government officials have connived to secretly export electricity to South Africa at the expense of Zambians. It is reported that ESCO of South African allegedly failed to settle financial obligations to its coal suppliers who in turn halted supply of the commodity and the former has since struggled to generate sufficient power for its local market. Zambians should be told the truth! No one, from ZESCO or government, has explained the cause of those two major black outs in January 2008 when it is believed that that was the time the inter-connector, what ever it is called, was being switched on to connect South Africa.

  13. ZESCO and government; we need honest answers, which you have. It is not necessary, and it is a waste of resources, to form a commission of enquiry trying to get answers from members of the ignorant public (on this issue) as what could have led to those black outs. Right now South Africans are busy thanking passive Zambians for this gesture because for them, now, black outs are a thing of the past. Additionally, it’s rumored that Zambia is still exporting 350 megawatts of electricity to that Botswana. God knows which other countries ZESCO is feeding.

Tell us the truth! We are tired of governments that do not care for its own people!!!

  14. I do not understand why Zambia should load shed. This is unacceptable at this stage. Zambia is well placed by God. We are in the centre of other countries and we are interconnected to the South African Pool(about 14 countries), we have natural resources – water, Zesco engineers, technologists, technicians, electricians and other experts. Actually, Zesco has over employed engineers and technologists. Many of the engineers and technologists are doing wrong jobs. Engineers and technologists are supposed to be engaged in engineering and its application. As a result we should have no black out, but surplus power even if we lost 2 generators for local need.
