Sitting tenants in former Zambia Consolidated Copper Mines (ZCCM) houses in Kalulushi have called on government to intervene in the wrangles involving them and those with title deeds.
Speaking on behalf of the sitting tenants, Peter Mwanza said government should help those that were being evicted to avoid displacement.
Mr Mwanza said that seating tenants that have been ordered out of the houses should be compensated for taking care of the houses before they can move out.
He said the houses were left in a deplorable state at the time ZCCM was privatised.
Mr Mwanza was speaking in an interview with ZANIS following the eviction of Mr Maco Mwansa of house number 8 Ipumbu Lane, Kalulushi by a named person possessing title deeds.
Mr Mwanza said the named man wants to sell the house following wrangles of ownership of the house.
He disclosed that Mr Mwansa was allegedly attacked by the man who was accompanied by eighteen other people armed with pangas in an Isuzu pick up, registration number AAT 3931.
Mr Mwanza added that Mr Mwansa was evicted but later returned to his house.
He said the sitting tenant, who has been living in the house for fifteen years, is now living in fear following last night’s incident.
Mr Mwanza, however, said that the matter was reported to police.
Meanwhile, Mr Mwanza has said that his organisation will defend the seating tenants from being evicted until the matter is determined by the court.
This is sad… these are things our government should be sorting out, in addition to the commendable job they are doing in bringing the corrupt leaders to book. Isn’t it ironic that one of Chiluba’s positive points is coming undone! Shame! the man will have no feet to stand on at the end of this long walk…
FJT sold nearly every goverment building. In his last term that was what his govermenr was realying on, fund from selling off parastatls. If one of his inner circle thought they could make money if they owned a particular school, they would have the ministry sell it to them.
We should have laws of allowing only a certain calibar of people to stand for the highest office.
SORRYFE FELLOW BLOGERS TO DIGRACE,its only that I cant stand the mediocre caliber of small boys with imature minds like Mulongoti. Even by looking at his face one can tell that the guy has little grey matter. Each time he opens his wide mouth expect something rotten to come out of it. The guy makes me sick to my stomach. How, on earth, can the character say that goverment is not to blame for mismanagement of funds by civil servants. The guy has no manners NOT EVEN BAD ONES.I wonder how LPM perceive such statements. Who then do we blame apart from the gvment. Mulongoti should go because he is an embarrasment not only to MMD but to the nation as a whole. Abash political masturbation!!!
Mr Mwansa should sue the title deed owner for trespass.I got a question for Marco, does he pay rent to this man,or who has been paying land rates?
It`s true Ba Gibb, who pays water and electricity bills?Under whose name do these accounts fall?
Police should deal with the man with the title deed for going to Mr Mwansa’s house with eighteen other people armed with pangas. Why didn’t he go to Mr Mwansa’s house with the police? We don’t want armed gangs with pangas in Zambia. the law should visit this ruthless and heartless man.
You see the point of selling houses has actually revealed one big problem, 80 to 90% of zambians dont own these very houses that were sold. u can just see how many people are renting houses and u will agree with me. The best Chiluba would have done was to build new ones to be sold rather than rip the councils of their revenue. See how poor the councils are today? Wake up. Infact when i get enough money, i will sue chiluba for selling zambia and also for de nuding zambias secret tunnels
The rule of law should apply, if the title deeds were legitimately obtained then the sitting tenant must leave.it is simple. if the deeds were fraudualantly obtained then the sitting tenant has a case.
Was the sale of the house first offered to the sitting tenant ?. That is the key question. If it was and he refused, he has no leg to stand on. If he was not offered the house when it was being sold, he has a chance.
ARREST THIS LAW BREAKER WHO ASSEMBLES PANGA WIELDING FELLOW THUGS TO DESCEND ON AN INNOCENT TAX PAYER. DONT BRING KENYA THUGGERY HERE. THIS IS ONE ZAMBIA ONE NATION, CHALO CHESU. IF THIS THUG HAS SOME KAFUPI ROOTS AND BLOOD, LET HIM FLEE TO D.R.C. BEFORE THE LAW VISITS HIM. CHALO CHESU.
# 10 Muyekwa Chalo… even you have !Kafupi roots” the bemba’s migrated from congo before settling in Zambia.
# 10 & 11 lets aviod tribal shitslinging. Look at what is happening in Kenya. If you love zambia lets be one nation and avoid tribal insults.
bane a failure is kwick to point a finger at someone. What the hell was Chiluba thinking when selling these houses? It was a wrong move i agree with # 7 Zambia has vast land. Why did he build houses? He sold the property that was built by Kaunda shame chiluba. he started his PHI which saw Richard sakala being a multi money baron in a second. those houses PHI are damn expensive. Yes we need shelter but not at the expense of the poor and the armless.
I, also given the chance would sue Chiluba. do we still have state ranches and shops pa Zed? ZCBC?
Gentlemen,a legal owner of the house is the one with a title deed. Those who are staying in those houses withoutn title deeds are just squaters and need to be evicted.Thats all.The police are there to enforce the law.Thats why it was prudent that the man had to go with the police to effect an eviction.
no.14 the title deed owner did not go with the police,he went with thugs.some of this title deed owners aquire them fraudlantly .
