Chinese mine manager kills copper theft suspect

Share

A CHINESE national has shot dead a suspected criminal at Boaxing Mining in Ndola where he attempted to steal copper plates.
According to the police, the suspect was shot around 03:00 hours on Saturday.
A firearm believed to have been used in several thefts was recovered from the scene.
The police said the suspect could not have been alone because he was communicating with some people as he was hauling the copper over the perimeter wall fence before he was shot.
Some metals and copper wires found at the scene were taken to Masala Police Station pending investigations.
The identity of the suspect was not known, but the police were trying to call some numbers in the mobile phone found in his pocket to locate either his relatives or friends.
A Times reporter was barred from seeing the Chinese national, a director at the mining firm, who shot the suspect.
The body of the suspect is lying in Ndola Central Hospital mortuary.
Meanwhile, medical personnel at Kawambwa District Hospital are keeping a two-day old baby boy that was dumped after its mother died.
The mother died on Friday after giving birth and her relatives became angry and decided to dump the baby at the entrance to its father’s house who had run away.
The deceased woman’s relatives suspected that the death was irregular as her spouse was already married to another woman in the area.
Some passersby rescued the freezing baby that had only been covered in a door mat when they heard it crying.
It was taken to the hospital where, by yesterday, it was still under observation.
Kawambwa district police officer-in-charge, Timothy Samakai, could not be reached for comment by Press time.

  1. The bad thing is the real organisers of copper thieves remain untouched. Mine guards in Kitwe are now been followed home and told to look the other way when these ‘finyamu nyamu’ strike. It’s really sad. Organised crime is slowly creeping in on the copperbelt whilst the police turn a blind eye.

  2. And is this Chinese manager licenced to carry a firearm.
I am not supporting theft but its dangerous if pipo can just come into your country and think they can take the law into their own hands. if the guy wasnt armed (tho this hasnt been mentioned in the article) it really calls for some seriouse investigation

  3. I dont think that you #2 and #3 could have raised the issue of gun licence if it was a European or Zambian shooting a criminal. Now that it a Chines these two people want to reduce the topic to Ant-Chines. Shame on you.

Copper thefts will soon bring our economy to its knees. I never heard of copper thefts during Kaundas time or Chilubas adminstration. During Chilubas admin. I only heard of cobalt thefts from Congo using Zambia as a transit point to South Africa. Copper is very heavy and it has to be bulk for one to sale.

I doubt if we are dealing with ordinary criminals. Copper transcations are very complex. Who are the Bigs fish?. It takes a lot of paper work to sale copper.

  4. I am aware that a lot of criminals have been shot dead when raiding peoples homes or private property. The manager at the mines whether chinese or not has no right to take someones life unless probably his was threatened.
This matter must be investigated to its full conclusion as the question is ‘was this execution reasonable under the circumstances’.
i am sure that the premises have security guards and appropriate insurance cover.

  5. 1.There is no such a thing as “INCHILA”! There are many reasons why a woman can suddenly die after giving birth, people must be educated about this issue properly before more innocent newborns will be dumped like trash.
    2. The Chinese man who killed a Zambian over Zambian copper must be charged accordingly by law!!! He could have scared them off by shooting the gun shots in the air, but nooooooooooooo he killed a zambian. Such methods were maybe used during colonial days,we are now independent and we don’t need foreigners to come and bully us with their guns, or should we all start carrying weapons and shot whenever we here noises outside our properties?

  6. COUNTRY MEN,chinese or no chinese there is no way that manager is supposed to kill that guy,iam not happy with them fools stealing NO,But who told that chinese to shoot pamene apo,so you are telling me that chinese manager is a judge, thats taking the law in your hands, this is the problem when people in the leadership eat with the choncholis, these fools think it hongkong.

  7. what? Chinese killing a Zambian ( you are innocent till proven guilty) he was only a suspect why didnt he fire in the air to scare the brat. This is crap. we dont need them thieves no but we do not believing in killing them. These chonchos are killing Tibetans for wanting their rights shame upon them. Let them listen Bob Marley songs Africa Unite and Redemption maybe they can learn something. Abash Chinese.

Look around the world the Chinese people are the ones turning into terrorists. They are the worst kind of bussiness people I have ever come accross.Look at the way they are treating Tibetarns. They are greedy snobs who are doing anything to get rich quick.First it was Chambeshi Accidents now this.Really you politicians in Zambia how low are U willing to sink ,where you are even sucrifising your fellow Zambians to worthless ,greedy fools? Can’t you see what is happening under your noses ?What happened to One Zambia One Nation ?Where is Humanism?Shame!!

  9. Anything by the Chinese now is as worthless as the people themselves.Chinese people Cons ,for your information. Why is it that they are the ones scrambling for Africas wealth now ?Look at the goods they produce ,90% are fake goods, even fake medicines are coming from China, important medicines for Malaria are sometimes being found containing fake ingredients like bricks ,for Gods sake !These are the peolpe who also fed the public with Card boards made into Meat pies. Surely Zambia you are better than this. You deserve more, you are a sovereign country,Wake up from that slumber.

  10. You politicians, ensure your people get descent salaries and all this thieving will cease.Police ,please book this man and conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances which lead to this Chinese fool to shoot on site.Who gave him authority?Did he fire any warning shots? Is the firearm licenced ?What was he ,as the mine manager doing at night at 03 am instead of the Guards who were on duty. Buka bolala tabwa kapwe imwe as the Government don’t protectv your own people from foreigners. These Chinese even boasts to their friends that Zambians are the cheapest labour source you can find in Africa.Surely we are not all that Cheap are we ? Ba Mwanawasa what says you ?Put up a minimum wage

  11. for all, which wolud be able to feed families up to the next month and you will see how healthy Zambbia will be. I am very angry at all these things happening to our beloved nation Zambia .I invite any critisism and comments on my feelings Thank you .

  12. #12 I, also is very angry about the conduct of this chocholis in zed. What have we done to deserve such kind of treatment from foreigns in our own country. Look at the our brothers in Sinazongwe mine suffering, (even dying) at the hands of these chocholis. How much did Chuchu get as bride from the infesters chocholis we can pay them the CHEKELEKO he got with interest from bloody for the nothing pipo so that they leave our land.

  13. Iam now more concerned with this issue bcoz it was actually a CHINESE who killed a Zedian,if they feel they have made so much money in my country let them leave this country and go to china to fight the Tibetians or is it the Delai lama’s. ba pumbafu imwe!

  14. The law says, one is innocent untill proven guilty by the courts of law.
I am against theft but the law should take its course .They should respect our laws.So that guk should also be charged with murder. He should be able to prove to the courts of law that he is innocent.
