Govt. concludes process of purchasing bullet proofs

Share

Government has completed the process of purchasing bullet proofs for police officers to increase their security while on duty.

Home Affairs Minister Ronnie Shikapwasha disclosed this in an interview with ZANIS today.

Lt. Gen. Shikapwasha said the police officers’ duty to secure the nation is a sacrifice and government will do everything possible to ensure that their lives are safeguarded.

The Minister was responding to calls from the Human Rights Commission for government to increase the security of police officers who mostly work at night.

Lt. Gen. Shikapwasha also disclosed that government will spend about K3 billion to reconnect 40 police houses in Lilayi that have had no electricity for weeks.

He said government is currently working on the process and the houses will soon be reconnected.

He further added that government has commissioned the construction of 500 housing units for police officers in Livingstone, Chipata, Kasama and Ndola.

Lt. Gen. Shikapwasha stated that the sites for construction have already been handed over to the contractors for the commencement of construction.

He said the housing units are expected to be completed by December 31, this year to pave way for the next batch of 1000 housing units in other parts of the country.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Home Affairs has floated tenders for the construction of boarder post infrastructure in Northern, North Western and Western provinces.

Lt. Gen. Shikapwasha also said government will this year complete construction of border infrastructure at Kanyala border post in Eastern province that was started last year.

He said the border posts are expected to effectively aid operations of all the border staff.

  1. What the police neen is a goo wage, not these bullet proof vests.
Give the this and they will arrest the criminal before the even commit a crime coz the police know these crimals and where they live but are demotivated coz of poor pay.
Give them a good wage and zambia will be crime free.

  2. What the police need is a good wage, not these bullet proof vests.

  3. When you hear about Government procurement of bulletpproof vests, it’s utterly preposterous when you know how poorly remunerated the police are and yet government decides to give priority to b’vests. Govt needs to appreciate that poor salaries and wages that the police are condemned to and painfully accustomed are in a real sense a major source of their insecurity. Their lives are in danger because they tend to consort with the same criminals they are supposed to arrest. Our Govt in Zambia needs to start awarding our security personnel with fairly decent wages and not the exisiting demeaning ones. Valuing our security men and women will contribute to an upright Zambia.

  4. Not only that,we have heard of police guns in the hands of criminals now these vests will now be exchanged with the criminals and the ordinary man will suffer..Vests are good but do they solve the monetary motivation the police need?I think not!!!

  5. & where z the money goin to come from to give every policeman a good wage wen u r busy crying about high taxes & condemning Chinese investment

  6. Before you even know it the vests will end up in the hands of criminals, and what will the exercise benefit our cops!!

  7. & whr z the money going to come 4rm to pay these guys gud wages wen u r crying about high taxes & complaining about Chinese investment

  8. #7 You are really a criminal! For the love of God can u stop using the name of the Lord in vain pls! That name is not a laughing matter, you are just cursing yourself my friend, mark my words.

Criminals will soon have access to those b’vests

  9. these guys dont nid vests. they they nid to be shot at so that some die so that they leave spce for new recruits. attrition you know. next time we shall be told that police will be given bullet proof underwear!

  10. 11 and 12. I cant come there. Police dont misunderstand me. Criminals dont kill police so often but AIDS does. So we just need to give them enough BULLET PROOF CONDOMS to protect them against AIDS. Anyway, police are the same criminals, criminals are the same police so let them kill each other. How I wish those traffic police ooficers couldall be shot and killed so that they dont milk us at road blocks.

  11. #9, the name Jesus can be anybody’s. Where does the curse come from if I call my child Jesus. Back to the bullet proof vests, what process is Shikapwasha talking about? Budget-Buy-Allocate does that need time and interviews? Although, of course, ballistic experts should be involved so that we do not purchase ‘Air gun’ proof vests. We need to know the arsenals criminals have. Not all bullets can be stopped by one vst type!

  12. #14 Old Mushunfwa I am begining to like you rat. You can hire me. I am a ballistic expert. what do you think? …

  13. Oh yes!! Zambia has a history of making fatal and uninformed decisions when it comes to purchasing technology and and Project Management. Remember when cellular phones came to the Zambian Market, Zamtel spent millions on the CDMA system, only to be replaced less that 5 years later with new GSM technology at great expense again. Remember Dag Hammerskjoeld Stadium? The Radar System at LIA still does not work, the 50 year warranty on works on Kafue Road did not even last 10 years, Recapitalisation of NCZ, our ‘new’ 500 and 1000 Kwacha notes. Lets wait and see what happens to these vests.

  14. Anonymous is correct, The person misuing the Lord’s name is just bringing a curse upon himself or herself.

Vests are needed for our poilice mena and women. good salaries are need as well.

  15. Patel, dont start lecturing us on the Lord’s name when all you know you fool is to milk from ass. Go and wash your dirty ass. In fact vests are needed by you bastards milking us in Kamwala.

  16. In serious countries, invisible policing has proved very effective. Invest in forensic laboratories instead of taking samples for Analysis in South Africa. I am selling a bullet proof vest whose former owner died after being shot in the head

  17. Gentlemen 9 & 18 do’nt confuse yourself with your small bible study lessons. My name is a contemporary one common particulary in our spanish speaking world. I can give famous examples like Jesus Alou the baseball player, Jesus Quintana a character in the film ‘The Big Lebowski’. So please don’t drag the holy name of God and assume a curse for the inocent. What will curse a man especially you two small prophets are your sinful deeds – stealing, adultery, bringing God’s name into disrepute and many more. Please next time keep your ignorance to yourself, especially Kapatel.

  18. Good wages can only come with improved economy, which take a little while if we remain consistently on the right path as is of now. But plz our beloved poor policemen, dont sell those vests, otherwise it will be imposisble to kil the robbers! You will actually be running away from them if you do that like u hav done with guns! For now they r invisible, with vests, they will be visib le and u wil go undercover!! Iyi njala, I hope mwamvela, ine nimumvelelako chabe chifundo mwe! Nizanu ngati muzachita ignore!

  19. There is something seriously wrong with your mathamatics Shikapwapwa, spending K3billion to reconnect 40 houses? It sounds outrageous, meaning K75m per house. Common old man, those huts are not even worth that much.

  20. #26 you are so spot on
that was my first thought wheni read the article.
The maths is just wrong unless he says hey want to buld 40 more huts!

  21. #19 Your language is nasty. As for the name Jesus, #22, if it is your real name then fine. But if you are using it as a nick name deliberately coz you know the first person who will come to people’s minds is the Lord Jesus Christ, then there is a prolem. God Knows your motive for using that name.

Now Back to the issue at hand. We will see the advantage or disadvantage these vests will bring. I should also remind the cops that that thing only covers a portion of the body, therefore, they should act as though they are not wearing any.

  22. Job well done by the Government. But great measures must be taken in house building.I think it’s high time our Goven.consulted their Russian friends on how they’re managing to build thousands of flats across Russia within months.I tell you if Russian contructors are hired by our Govern, they can build thousands of those small houses across Zambia within weeks!!!!!!!! Shikapwasha get advices from our embassy in Moscow if funds are at hand because building 500 small houses in 1 yr is nonsense.Yr Govern.is claiming that the economy is improving, then provide decent accommodation too.Use worth contructors.

  23. Good job. Now get yourselves out in the field and get them robbers off the streets.

  24. I have left this blog because I can not reduce myself to our levels.

  25. How much did the vest cost us first? What is important is our gvmt to understand that they are not doing us or police officers a fevour no, but it’s their duty to do so and when they do it they should’nt expect a pat on their shoulders, thats why we put them there!
In my opinion it wasn’t even neccessary for this issues to be reported as news! This will only trigger criminals to attack or shoot our innocent officers even when one isn’t puting on the same! This shows how desperate our gvt official are in wanting to make a name or to be praised. It wasn’t weathy news, for it boarders on security reasons.

  26. Pliz brothers and Sister lets be serious on issues of our land,Lets not expose our unseriousiness in using abusive or sacastick language! this blog is been used and seen by other national so pliz lets try to be matured in making our opinions.
I know some of you will react to this but pliz just think about it. I am so sory if I have offended anyone by these remarks pliz!
    One Zambia One Nation.

  27. #35, there is no need for you to apologise. Abusive languge must be avoided. I have always believed that a person who can’t express him/herself without insulting has something seriously wrong with him/her.

  28. Maria, Joseph, Jesus, David etc… are all simply jewish names countrymen you live in bondage beliving in little white lies” that have left you confused and hinders you from success, cuz you waste too much time worring about HELL or the boiling lake of fire when you really never have been free but has only been slaves to the masters” all you do is repeating what you have been told to do since you were a baby.., and never really have thought about yourself as authoritiy
