‘Don’t migrate’, Sinyinda urges Zambian teachers

Share

Education Deputy Minister Clement Sinyinda has implored teachers in Zambia not to migrate to other countries in search for better conditions of service.

Mr. Sinyinda urged teachers to remain committed to serving the nation because government was working on improving the education sector.

He was speaking when he held a meeting with teachers in Senanga district today.

He said it was no longer beneficial for Zambian teachers to leave the country for ‘greener pastures’ when their colleagues that had gone abroad were pondering on returning home.

Mr. Sinyinda, who is also Senanga Central MMD Member of Parliament, said conditions of service for teachers had become very competitive in Zambia than in other countries, hence the need for them to stay.

Mr. Sinyinda said the teachers should now commit themselves to duty, discourage examination leakages and focus on service delivery other than concentrating on migrating to other countries.

He said government was devoted to improving the education sector in the
country through the provision of good conditions of service and a good
teaching environment.

He said the ministry had started providing car loans, house loans and many other incentives to staff in the teaching fraternity.

The Deputy Minister was in the district to inspect infrastructure in education facilities.

  1. Don`t be fooled by these politicians. In the western countries teachers are well looked after, they get good salaries which enables them to look after their families and there are motivated to teach. I agree with 1&2

  2. For how long will teachers wait for improved working conditions. Does Mr. Sinyinda want their families to starve? We go to school so we may live better lives in future. Just look at how our grade 12 performed in last years exams, it shows the collapsing of the education sector in Zambia. My words to this Mr. Sinyinda are, “first improve the working conditions of teachers, and you will realize that after improving their working conditions no more teachers will be leaving Zambia”. Do not also lie to those who are in Zambia that teachers abroad are thinking of going back to Zambia. You are a lier man, why cheat to poor teachers to make them stay and be paid nothing!

    • Tony Vincent:Hello Bro Tony, Have just read your news e-mail about great events at the osohcl, passed on by Wayne. It is so good to hear good news from a franciscan community!! Well done, all your hard work and prayers have been rewarded. Keep it up, God Bless,Tony

  3. And why not Mr Sinyinda? Give us three good reasons why we should not migrate to other countries in search for better conditions of service?

  4. Teachers come back to zambia, when for instance, their contract s are not renewed as in BOts, not because of good conditions back home. That is a lie.

  5. In my case as a Librarian, I left Zambia immediately after graduating from Unza,in 1996, there were no jobs and I decided to look for greener pasture elsewhere. If my services are needed under “handsome” coditions of service, I will come back.

  6. Migration rates in Zambia are -2.4%. The population between 2006 and 2007 show just how things are worsening in Zambia. In 2006, there was a population of about 11,500,000 (approx.), in 2007, the population was about 11,400,000 (approx.).* If the Zambian govt does not do anything to motivate people, they’ll keep on leaving Zambia and this will have a negative impact on the Zambian economy mostly because it’ll lead to a “brain-drain” in Zambia. Govt, do something to motivate people to come back and contribute to national development.

    * CIA Records.

  7. Put something salivating on the table and people will not migrate and others will come back, but if you continue with your Government+ chinese peanut, then, am sorry. # 8 your analysis is shallow, you mean 100, 000 migrated? have you taken into account of deaths?

  8. FORGET ABOUT IT chi minister you want as back, first of all the salaries are too low for teachers and you dont pay them on time chi minister you are enjoying the good salaries i spent all my life time seaching for a job which was only for your relatives and mp,s ,top governmet officials relatives AND YOU WANT ME BACK FORGET AM NOW SITTING ON MY EGGS JUST LIKE YOU.

  9. pipo i am a teacher. the govt brought up the issue of wage freeze so as to reach the HIPIC fimo fimo, they reached and we have never had any sensible increment. awe am in Swazi and its lekker here.

Im just telling you what i found in the records. Thats why i left a citation. I didn’t put the data together. I just presented it but left a citation. Don’t argue with me, argue with the people collecting the data.

  11. I am not a teacher but I believe in the market economy. Sale your skills to the highest bidder whether within or beyond our borders period! Infact, most teachers never truly migrate. They come back home…after having provided a good life to themselves and their families, and having a fat bank account to see them in retirement. Ba minister teachers need to eat just like you. If you want them to stay, pay them well and provide them the tools to do their jobs properly. Or just swap your position with a teaher’s and see if you won’t be heading over the border in no time.

  12. shame! 1&2 if all teachers migrates who is going to teach your relatives you left in zambia? Running away from problems can not solve anything, go back and bring change in your country. it’s good to cross borders but espect to work like a slave as it is in others countries.

  13. Well, I love working and getting paid enough to afford three good meals a day and a roof over the heads of my family. I love working in an environment without the ‘some of us’ of my country. And by the way, only paperless individuals work like slaves when they cross borders. Good papers = a good life, out here. In Zed, you also need luck and political connections in the equation.

  14. Teachers must be encouraged to look for greener pasture, this will create more job opportunities in Zambia. The only thing that the Hon Minister is supposed to do is to come up with a strategy on how to replace these teachers thank God Zambia is blessed with human resource and the only that needs to be done is to train it. By replacing teachers who leave the country would enable more Zambians to be employed locally and abroad. I take this opportunity to ask the Minister to learn from Ghana. That country is able to export qualified human resource without straining the country.

  15. I also want to remind the Minister that in some of those countries these teachers migrate there are zambians going to school there especially Ministers s children or Diplomats. These people need the services of a teacher.

  16. It is common sense that civil servants especially teachers are the last to feel the effect of economic improvements. The first ones to feel it are the investors, politicians, traders including thamangas, then farmers before the rest such as nurses and teachers. As with the police, that profession is cursed, they just have to join the corrupt who r now role models! So dont be deceived, stay if your spirit tells you so, dont listen to that demagog, he is paid to deceive and fool people, he is the great satan. If they knew their priorities well, teachers and lecturers would not be getting less that revenue officers! If u can, go dear teachers, come back when u r apprecited, demand & supply!

  17. baMr Nice. It is because that I migrated I am able to pay for the education of my relatives and look after my parents very well. If I was in Z there was no way I was going to do this. I have been able to do more for my family. So sorry I am not ashamed. I took my chance and have succeeded.

  18. This is a quotable quote “Mr. Sinyinda, who is also Senanga Central MMD Member of Parliament, said conditions of service for teachers had become very competitive in Zambia than in other countries, hence the need for them to stay”.

Am not a teacher, but am not willing to buy this!!!

  19. Sinyinda is sick. I am here in USA. Who told him that we are pondering coming back? How does he even know what people are thinking? You guys teaching back home, if chance opens up, take advantage. The government will never care for you. At lunch and dinner time, check what is on your plate. Check what is in your closet. If you have to forego other items just meet other very necessary stuff, then ask Sinyinda to come and teach your classes. I gave one minister my check stub/pay slip when he visited Kitwe/Helen Kaunda Sec Sch to help me with making a monthly budget for me to follow. He couldn’t. They should start paying you living wages for them to ask you to stay. Period

  20. Am a student here in South Africa taught by one Zambian professor. No South African is teaching me anything. most of my professors are Zimbabwans, Irishi and one swazi lecturer. What am trying to say is thaT we need to allow teachers to look for greener pastures and expose their countries. Zambian education system at the moment is pathetic it needs real constraction. look at the G12 results? very poor!!! Am sure most of the zambians out there are not happy being in other countries but the system in Zambia is bad and its the one keeping them whereever they are.

  21. Fellow Zedians when an opportunity to go outside Zed presents itself, jump at it. I worked for the mines for 20 years and still still lived in poverty. Only politicians were growing potbellies and changing women. Look at one president in the opposition…we hear he is about to marry his third wife. Balya beka ba politician.

  22. just migrate
that minister is enjoying fat allowances and more over if he was in your shoes he would also migrate =)

  23. IF GRZ DONT PAY THEMM… HELL THEY HAVE A RIGHT TO MIGRATE.. DAMM THEY GATS TO EAT TOO…..

  24. The condition of civil servants are relatively poor all-over the world. A South Africa police-man get R2000 appro K1M, a high-school teacher in RSA get approx R6000.00 or K3M in Zed. In private sector these guys could double the income wheather in Zambia or RSA. The bottom line is Governments across the world are there to provide a services to its people after collecting tax. The problem in Zambia our ZRA has a few industries and workers paying taxes. The next problem is un-equitable distribution of these collected resources which include payment of civil service salaries. Otherwise I salute our hard-working teachers.

  25. Sorry, Mr Minister I cannot eat and feed my kids with zambian patrotism. I have to check out the country that is going to give the best incentives. I was tired of hearing appeals from ministers not to migrate.TALK IS CHEAP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Great Article Ray Are you walking on your edatrmill while recording? For those of you who arent aware.. Dr. Ray has the office of the future’ He has a desk in his office that fits OVER his edatrmill and he works FROM HIS TREADMILL! He is setting the bar for us all!! GET ACTIVE AND GET N.E.A.T.

  26. Ine bakamba chalipwa nshakabwele ku Z. Nkalaisa fye mukutandala. Yalipasa kuno aaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

  27. I would like to hear from teachers in Zambia who can tell us how conditions have changed since the promise was made. Car/house allowances?

  28. Before I started mcehsohooling my son there was a 3rd/4th grade teacher at his school who was always shrieking about something. I swore to myself that my child would never be in her class. She was very high strung and every student in the class would be disciplined by losing recess or other fun for a couple kids being disruptive. And, a friend of mine’s son who had her as for 2 years never improved in her class. She realized this year that she could not handle it and she quit. She’s in her early 30s so she has time to find out what age level if any she would be better at. Thanks for sharing and I’m stopping by from vB!
