Rainford Kalaba Signs Five-Year Deal With Sporting Braga

Share

Rainford Kalaba has signed a 5-year deal with Portuguese top-flight club Sporting Braga for an undisclosed fee.

Portuguese newspaper Record reports in its Sunday edition that Kalaba has signed with Braga until 2013.

But the paper does not disclose how much the deal is worth although it is speculated to be in the region of Euros 100,000.00.

This will be Kalaba’s second European stint.

Two years ago, Kalaba had a brief stint at French Ligue 1 team Nice in the 2005-2006 season.

Kalaba joins Braga a season after helping guide Zesco United to their first league title last year when he scored 13 top-flight goals on his way to also winning the Zambia Player of The Year Award.

The 21-year-old has been on loan to Zesco from division one north team Afrisports since July 2006 after leaving Nice.

  3. Viva Kalampa. Abakali bakali
Viva Kalaba for the new deal to play in Portugal. It adds value to Zambian soccer.

  4. Braga is a good team in which kalaba can fit in easily if he works hard.Ever since the romauor about this move i have followed braga’s matches and it is a good team

  5. You will watch Goalissimo and u wont see Kalaba coz he will be confided with the reserves as usual. Amashamo pa zed fyani!

  6. Good move for Kalaba to clinch such a deal.It now calls for total discipline and full application to fittness, then the sky will be the limit. It would be wise for Kalaba to immitate arguably Zambia`s most successful and accomplished football legend Kalusha Bwalya. The basic bedrock for Kalu`s success has been discipline.

  7. congrats rainford. It makes me proud to hear that one of our players is plying his trade in a major league. Braga have obviously seen great potential in this boy . Let’s be positive about this. Whats good for one of our players is good for Zambia. We need our players to face the harsh realities of top flight football. To succeed at that level will make our team stronger. Thats one more feather in your cap rainford! Godspeed!

  8. What of the defenders, they are the ones who are a late down and cost us at AFCON. Hichelanse even failing trails in Georgia, he must be an *****

  9. Braga are 8th out of 16 teams in Portugals first division, they are an average team where where even Hachilense whatever his name is come be center back, in short they are crap. If kalaba could fail in France he will fail as well at Braga, he will end up like the Mutapas, Mbesuma of this world. Football in Europe is tough and they is no cry baby, mum please cock for me

  10. guys I think its a bit unfair for us to be so persistic about our players prospects. We have very few accomplished athletes in Zambia and it doesnt help when the general attitude is one of failure and hopelessness. Folks need to check that negative attitude. Its contagious!!

  11. The truth is, the boy should change, his behaviouris not good otherwise he will be send back again.otherwise congrats boy.

  12. Its rare to here positives in Zambian football so its good to aknowledge when we learn of one.Its either this or that has gone wrong.
I take this as a positive.
As far as the boys behaviour goes,he’ll know whats good and whats good for him inorder to improve his game when he is there.
Felix Katongo said that its a $20 fine when a phone rings during training where he is.
Mbesuma was fined $200 or so for retaing late for camp when he had come to Zambia. Our friends in other places take these small things so serious so much so that there is no room for CIRCUS.

  14. well football in zambia is finished or should i say dead…first will never win the africa cup no matter what..we can have 10 or 20 footballer in europe but that wont make an difference….
1.zambian footballers whatever u call em they have no discipline at all, education and no proper management system…
when they are takin part in the africa cup, they think they are on holiday..they dont understand why they are there for…

  15. to be honest we should have won the africa cup in 1994,but that was a fantastic acheivement considering we had just lost 23 great great professional in that plane crash(cond)to all the families…but nigeria was a good team at the time…
1996 without a doubt that was the year when zambia should have won it…we beat egypt and underestimated tunisa and we got punished…apart from that….lets just forget or dreaming about wining africa cup…iam a true zambian and love football but our own team has let us down for so many years…..we can have sir alex ferguson or asrene wenger as manger but that wont make any difference the problem is within footballer..i can sort them out..useless n lazy

  16. whose this kalaba anyway?? the poor boy needs some serious guidance or good advice if he has to cut it in portugal…he has to keep his feet to the ground and dont let success get over to his head coz if that happens am afraid that will be another talent wasted…
good lucky boy n all the best..

  17. Yes, Kalaba was loaned to my club, Gil Vicente, that plays in division two but it’s the major favourite to go to division one.
Kalaba played sometimes and he is now very important to the team. He already scored 2 beautiful goals and he is a very good player. I believe that he will have success in Braga in the next year, and our fans already say that he was the best new player of the club.
His only problem is that he is a little short and thin and sometimes in the portuguese league, strenght is very important (also in other european leagues).
But I’m surprised with this kid, he is very good!
