Let’s all fight corruption, says Mbulakulima

Share

Government has called for concerted efforts from all stakeholders in working towards averting the scourge of corruption in the country.

Copperbelt province Minister Mwansa Mbulakulima made the call this morning at his office when he flagged off 358 kilometre Anti-Corruption walk.

The 358 kilometre Anti-Corruption walk, which was flagged off from Kitwe two days ago, is being undertaken by Wendy Mwachilenga and Mr. Richard Mwanza and is expected to take the duo 15 days to reach Lusaka.

Mr. Mwanza and Ms. Mwachilenga had a stop over in Ndola yesterday.

Mr. Mbulakulima said government was always committed to fighting corruption at all levels of the Zambian society.

He said this was reaffirmed when President Levy Mwanawasa declared a zero tolerance to corruption at all levels.

He said the walk was meant to raise public awareness on the dangers of corruption to the national economy.

Mr. Mbulakulima said all patriotic citizens should embrace the fight against the vice so that Zambia could become a corruption free country.

He added that the walk was also intended to woo support from private and public institutions, civil society and the international donor agencies, who he said should become partners in the fight.

The minister said institutions fighting corruption have realised that they needed other stakeholders to play a part in order to win the fight.

Mr. Mbulakulima said one of the major dangers of corruption was that only few individuals amassed huge resources to themselves at the expense of the majority poor.

He said the fight should be enhanced until a positive change in the behaviour and the way of conducting business was evidently seen by everyone.

  1. Mwansa, the fight against corruption must start in the office of the president down to the grassroots. Corruption in Zambia is so serious one wonders how development of the country can take place. The fact that some individuals are even walking a distance of almost 400km is such a shame but date stamps the seriousness of the problem. You cant have a corrupt cabinet and expect other sectors to remain free from corruption. Every sector in Zambia is affect. I wont bother citing cases of corruption as they are many and common that corrupt incidents have become very normal in our country led by a lawyer of lawyers. ITS A SHAME.

  2. Tired song play something else. What z Katumbi doing in the country when Rupiah Banda assured us the man will be arrested when he comes to zed a few months ago now he was drinking coffee with you Mbulakulima.VJ was ryt then & has been vindicated.
    Jst shut up

  3. Mr Peter,…you hit the nail on its head.Corruption is now the way of life in Zambia; and people wonder why the police don’t have gas when you call for help. They are pocketing all the money that the department is supposed to recieve for improving the force and even raising their salaries. By the way,…the police force is just an example,….think of how many sectors would improve if they recieved the funding they required in the rightful manner.

  4. You shadow of a Minister, Mwansa, you are meeting Katumbi and on the other hand you are talking about corruption. Its better you just shut up your mouth than ukula tutumfya. What cheek!!

  5. Introduce a “subject” to induce the right mentality in young Zambians starting in Grade One thorugh to Grade Twelve. This subject must be compulsory in all Schools – Public and Private – so that all young Zambians will be given enough exposure on the bad aspects of corruption and other vices like sex before marriages.
Just as HE President Mwanawasa has declared “zero rolerance on corruption”, let the government declare war on Cleanliness, HIV/AIDs, Hygiene and all forms of corruption in Zambian people’s minds.
The other day, I was impressed how CNN/BBC told the world world that there is almost no theft in Japan because people are taught that you must not get what is not rightfully yours.
