Villagers beat up two ZAWA officers

Share

TWO Zambia Wildlife Authority (ZAWA) officers in Petauke have been admitted to Petauke Hospital after they were allegedly beaten up while two Nyalowa villagers in Chief Nyamphande’s area have been arrested by police officers to help with investigations in the matter.
The ZAWA officers were conducting a routine check in the village and started confiscating game meat that was found within the village.
Eastern Province police chief, Emlyn Mushondwa, said in Chipata that the incident happened yesterday morning.
Mr Mushondwa condemned the beating of ZAWA officers by villagers and said the police did not condone such behaviour.
“It is not good to beat security men who are conducting route checks at the village, and as police we will not condone the beating of ZAWA officers because of late, we have noticed that the beating of ZAWA officers is on increase in the province,” he said.
Mr Mushondwa advised the people to stop attacking law-enforcers as it was portraying a bad picture as security men had a role to play in society.
And a 12-year-old girl of Kapata township in Chipata district, who was shot by a stray bullet and later admitted at Chipata General Hospital on Sunday, has been evacuated to the University Teaching Hospital in Lusaka for specialist treatment.
Mr Mushondwa said Ruth Kamanga was shot by a stray bullet when her neighbour, only identified as Mr Nyondo, was trying to kill a wild cat in his yard.
He said the incident happened around 14:30 hours. Police officers have picked Mr Nyondo for investigations to establish what exactly transpired.

  1. well done villagers for teaching zawa officers a lesson, they think bush meat is only for them, let the govt introduce a strong welfare systerm to anable the unemployed to access human basic needs. Poverty levels in zambia is very high that pipo cant afford a meal, so to be able to sustain their families they go poaching. Did the ZAWA officers produce their search warrant or they were taking advantage of the villagers? uniform officers like taking the law in their hands. Last time a village headman was seen being kicked for blocking mwanawasa in eastern but the IG didn’t request for a report, but now since its post boss or reporter he wants it, do u think us villagers are fools? you’ll die.

  2. The social welfare office register their relatives as beneficiaries of the money, heavy rains has distroyed the crops where do you think this poor villager can find food with his 10 wives and 30 children ,ophans and 5 HIV/AIDS patients in the village?

  3. Ba Levi inyo, you cannot give an excuse of hunger to break the law. Can you just enter a shop and help yourself because you are hungry?? These villagers should face the wrath of the law.

  4. That serves you right, how do you go all the way inspection peoples’ pot for game meat. Infact you are very lucky, next time you will go without your skin, *****s.

  5. Sory for the officers and we wish them a quick recovery! And pliz educate villagers on their rights and the roll of Zawa officers.Officer should take serious precaution before thy approach a targeted area and be diplomatic. Sometimes officers are overzelous, they end up provoking suspects who later retariate violantly! let the police investigate thoroghly though we doubt if theycan do that!
Sometimes in 2005 in L/stone Zawa officer shot at one of the chacol burner at a very close range intentionly after apprehending him and the case is currently be persued in a Hight court.
Produce warrant when ever you want to search or arrest any suspect and take them to court within 24 hours respectivel

  6. #3 & #4 for goodness sake, law enforcers dont just do things from without. imagine it were you working for ZAWA and you are involved in such an incidence. No wonder it is even stated taht they went to do routne check-ups.They deserve no beatings to an extent of being hospitaliesd. The law must deal with the culprits.

  7. A hungry man is an angry man. That’s what happens if you touch his food! By the way, I thought these Easterners only eat rats (mbeba)? Don’t get offended my dear Ngoni brethren, it’s Chimbuya!

  8. Beating those *****s must have been hilarious!! How can they go to my pipo and start arresting them for eating bush meat. I understand the govt gets revenue from these animals thru tourism, but do these villagers benefit out of tourism? Not in Petauke. I have live my life there and i know, these pipo are struggling especially with the hunger looming due to poor harvest and caused by non payment of farmers due by FRA a govt agent. So the govt decides to starve them and send ZAWA guys to arrest them? Does this make sense. Aluta contua with the beatings. Next time pipo of Petauke, use knob kerries and don’t hit on the soft spot but right on the fore head!!

  9. Somone is hungry yu expect him to be angry if yu take away his food.forgive them the MBEBA is finished and no in new deal.

  10. Total indiscipline, no wonder cops sometimes resort to pumping live ones in their heads to make them realise that boma ni boma. You dont attack boma physically, they will always win.

  11. i think those f*ckers got what they deserved

its true, boma ni boma, and yes we can’t win when we take them on.

but we can still kwapula them, rough them up a bit

    bastards

  12. i cant blame the fox, i recently tried game meat maaann!!! it’s irresisitible the stuff is cool.am sure even the officer could’t have exhibited all kuli boma.

  13. What happens to the game meat these officers confiscate? ….eatern up or sold? these zawa officers always try to try show off the little authourity by targeting poor people. they are the worst culprits themselves…they sell game meat to visitors? if you are looking for game meat see zawa.

  14. Zawa stop that system, why going inspecting for game meat in pots no wander that poor villagers end up beating you.We know its your responsibility to take charge on game meats and its good, but avoid opening pots and you are the same people who like selling meats [khoma chiwamila Gulu] carefull!
