THE Ministry of Health in Southern Province has managed to put 22,233 HIV positive patients on Anti-Retro Viral (ARVs) drugs.

Clinical Care Specialist at Provincial Health Office Jonas Mwale said the number of patients put on ARVs went beyond the targetted 14,452 for 2007.

Dr Mwale said Livingstone had 4,658 patients accessing ARVs while Choma , Monze and Mazabuka had 3,945 , 3,827 and 3,236 accumulative cases respectively.

He said the number of patients accessing ARVs in Siavonga last year stood at 2,336, while they stood at 1009 in Kalomo.

Other districts were Sinazongwe at 973, Namwala 990, Kazungula 520, Itezhitezhi 474 and Gwembe at 265

Dr. Mwale disclosed the development in Livingstone yesterday during the Provincial Aids Taskforce (PATF) meeting held at Cabinet office.

Dr Mwale said in the quest of trying to take health care as close as possible to the people, that two more centres for ART would be opened in Gwembe district this year.

He said the province currently had 35 ART sites and that these would be scaled up to 40 by the end of this year.

And Southern Province Aids Coordinator Mutinta Moonga disclosed that K70 million has been released for HIV/AIDS activities in the province.

  1. as the number of people accessing ARV increases so as the number of people getting HIV/AIDS does.give us the data also to hear that the number of people contracting HIV/AIDS is reduced.

  2. The number is increasing and the number could be more than that. And they are yet 50,000 people to get tested.Out of 85% is infected as your know Southern province in the hub of slaughtering (Shakafuswas). It is really terrible!!

  3. The outlined statistics are alarming. My home town, Mazabuka, is clearly among the most affected and infected.

Please, channel some of that money to sensitize the SP people on how to prevent themselves from contracting the HIV virus and also to caution those receiving ARVs not to propagate the HIV infections once they regain some strength – and look like they are non-infected with the said virus.

  4. hhehhehhehhe, have you been tested yourself? This disease is quite strange and one scientist stated that even mosquitoes do transmit. No wonder it is now very common to find vagins with HIV. Africans will finish,my brother. It is really terrible. And you cannot escape my brother.I am told even in food stuffs especially tinned steaks etc.

  5. Nyina HK #4,what you are saying is not 100% true.there has been debates on what you have said i am not hearing that for the first time.if you say that then by 2020 alote of people will be HIV positive.if you can give me some scientific proofs that will be better.get me right i am not sayiny that what you said is not true but its debatable and have less proofs

  6. Ali No.5,just believe what Nyina HK is saying.True stories have been told in this world about this. And testomines have been given. Do not even go into scientific terms. It is simple. All you need to do is, just believe in the word of God and procclaim that indeed Jesus is Lord. That is it! You may be surprised Ali one day you are told that you are HIV positive and you wife and children are all negative and you have not been sleeping around or handling contaminated materials. careful!!

  7. My brothers, whites are funny characters.Know that they don’t love you. Even the PC you seating on can infect you with the deadly virus. Watch out, Ali!!

  8. ba computer daka #5.kwena mwalisela.you make sense to me just by mentioning Jesus about the whole issue.to those who believe in Jesus and those who deny him the fact here which daka brougt is that God will protect and whenther knowing or an knowingly.one needs to live with Biblical values.i have read so much about HIV/AIDS and most of the things said are the same and seem not to be giving a solution apart from encouraging people to sleep around in the name of practicing safe sex-use a condom syndrome.

  9. #4. I am tested. I think I must go for more tests regularly in light of what you just wrote. What about you?

  10. livingstone is one of the hubs of sexual infectious diseases. I was early this year sandiwiched by 3 zimbabwean ladies who needed transport but later on turned sexually agressive. Another town is Kapiri Mposhi. These are the towns I visited where I saw hot ladies! In any case case I think boarder towns have to be monitered closed in the cases of STIs.

  11. # 4 Nyina you are very ignorant about HIV/Aids, you need to get the real infomation concerning this issue before you infect yourself screwing around without proper protection, thinking a mosquito net would do the trick.
What rubbish is that, tinned steaks and virgins? The only way a virgin could infected her/himself is through contaminated blood transfusion or born with the disease caused by infection from the infected pregnant mother.

  12. Kwena but Tonga bulls are dangerous! The statistics given is scary. Now, to those of you guys/gals who are in the habit of slaughtering/being slaughtered carelessly, watch out, AIDS is real and its still taking away human lives in big numbers. The southern province is not an isolated case. Its wise to get tested and know one’s status. I have been tested several times and I intend to be taking HIV tests every 6 months, just to make sure.
Remember at all times, however, that prevention in better than cure.

  13. #2 Sooswe Tembo!! For your own info. Shakafuswa the does not come from S.Province he comes froms from Central.

Lets wait for statistics from other provinces. This disease is everywhere. Some pipo are talking about being negative, thats not the point. The point is how are you behaving to mentain that status.

  14. AIDS is real gentleman and Dr sondashi and Dr ngoma from agoni clearing have the cure….?i do not understand how some people can capitalize on someone’s illness? they get the money and even fall asleep at night and eat nshima?

  15. This figure is so alarming. Does it mean these bulls and cows still practise un protected screwing for cleansing?

  16. #2, Shakafuswa has nothing to do with the tonga land. Indeed you’re sokwe.

As for # 17, what has getting money, falling asleep in the night and nshima eating, got to do with the subject matter? I can’t comprehend. Explain further.

  17. HIV/AIDS is ransacking Southern Province (SP) because the SP is a centre of activities now. Mazabuka has a new Nickel mine. The Zambia Sugar Company is expanding there causing small and large businesses to make serious profits.

Livingstone on the otherhand is booming with its touristic attractiveness – promising a good life for kaponyas and providing a solace to our neighbours (especially the Zimbos).

Choma and the rest of the towns therein are doing great too.

To this effect, the numbers we are seeing on here are understanded though sad.

We however need to know the HIV/AIDS situation in the other provinces of our great country.

  18. I hear Masebo had collapsed in kabwe yesterday during labour. Is it true?? And is is true that one of her great grandfathers came from Mazabuka or Tonga land?? She is very single, so………..Sikafuswarization kaa!!
