Share

MMD chairman of elections Mr. Mike Mulongoti has cautioned MMD members at all levels of the party egainst commiting themselves to particular presidential candidates to succeed Dr. Levy Mwanawasa.

Mr. Mulongoti said members of MMD should at the moment preoccupy themselves with the work of organising the party.

The minister was speaking when he addressed MMD members of a London based branch.

Mr. Mulongoti said MMD members should guard against being bought, adding that MMD was not for sale.

”Don’t sell your conscious to freely selecting the successor of Dr. Mwanawasa,” Mr. Mulongoti said.

Mr. Mulongoti was prompted to address the MMD members following leadership wrangles that arose in the branch.

”Let’s not spend time quarrelling over leadership instead, let’s use the opportunity to organise the party,” he said.

The London MD branch is chaired by a Mr. Frederick Chileshe.

Meanwhile, Zambia’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Anderson Chibwa, has expressed happiness with initiatives of some Zambians residents in the UK to help solve problems back home.

Mr. Chibwa said he was satisfied with a non-governmental organisation formed by Zambians which has raised 90,000 British Pounds for an orphanage project in Chongwe.

The high commissioner was speaking when Information and Broadcasting Minister, Mike Mulongoti, stopped over at the Embassy on his way from Algeria where he attended a parliamentary conference seeking solutions to a 33-year-old Western Sahara conflict.

Mr. Chibwa said another group of Zambians called Zambia overseas Christian Fellowship were also fund raising to support orphans in Ndola and Luanshya on the Copeprbelt.

  1. mulongoti again! yaba, yangu ehh…next it will be tetamashimba..commenting on the same issue..mwashukile fye mdala pakukwata akapoto kenu ako.ba boss benu bamyunfwile ko fye ulese pantu ubuchushi bwali chilamo.so, its no suprise that you will always boot lick ba Levy.Dnt forget ati Sata bali munyunya kuli chiluba ka.so,dont have any hope of being considered by your boss even in your wildest dreams.

  2. Mulongoti is right let these members just relax, already nabamba ukubensa, if i had my way i would ask levy to stay on for one more term, because initially in 2001 i was a bit sceptical but the outlook on the progress that this country has had, i venture to think that it would be disastrous if we made an experimental change. whilst he is the last of his political breed save for bashi chilufya i would gladly welcome another mandate for him, just one more, but of course that’s not possible. What he must do is remain party president coz he has only served one term of his party leadership and either let his boy mutati or bana chipo stand republicly, VIVA MMD……ICHO, ICHO, ICHO.

  3. #4 We mwaume Moderate please calm down. Levy has no monopoly on wisdom. Let us not fall into the trap of thinking that Levy has done us any favours. Like everyone else, he has just done what he is paid to do. If he does not leave us with a good constitution then his era will also go down in history as a missed opportunity. The trepidation that we may feel is born out of our distrust for the current constitution which creates an all powerful president. The change of leadership should be seen as a time of rejuvenation! As for Mr. Mulongoti, he should not use tax payers money to go to London to campaign for MMD. He should concentrate on matters of state.

  4. Ba moderate,
Ba Felix Mutati is not a politician neither is he considered ideal by the internal party strategic driving machines. He has no political appeal or trail to bulldoze any national wide General electoral constituency. He is blank on who are the behind the scenes core powers driving the party sustainability.Your confusion emanates from the fact that HE Dr.Mwanawasa as Party Chief and Government is cordially embracing every player and actor to consolidate a national appeal without borders. That is the only way factionalism could be obliterated.Mutati is just a technocrat without the fire in the belly to take anything on.Revisit your determing variables and you will have some filler

  5. But such speculations are good even in open primaries especially where the front man is silently deep in the resource and international solidarity meetup acts.Once the machinery is sanctioned to sanctimoniously shape up the race, you will be shocked of your speculation was off the tangent.Yours will be a lesson of a moderate having distantly missed it in the unit of analysis.By the way, what have you seen in Mutati that he could be a party and National Presidential mobilizer of the national constituency in such a highly localized political terrain?

  6. Kanshi this mulongoti who is he? the man is a duffer to be a minister. Ba levy i mean ,you can do better than this man. Though to say on his comment,i agree with him let the goverment concentrate on the economic progress at hand other than talking about elections which are moons and moons away.

  7. I tell you,we need a new constitution with all the 50+1,a proper separation of the 3 arms of govt.Especially the power to remove coz i believe that if the Chief Justice,IG,ACC Chief,DEC Chief where given proper autonomy & were answerable to parliament & could only be removed by parliament, this could be a start. The like s of Mulongoti & Tetamashimba would not be irritating us so much coz their boss would also have less powers over key institutions which they currently manipulate.Levy is not the best MMD has or better still Zambia we have plenty of great sons & daughters most of whom have not just had the platform to be known Pipo like HH,Prof Chirwa,Given Lubenda,Sakwiba,Ronnie,Nevers,Mutati

  8. In serious democratic parties, the successor is known long before the elections. But in Zambia, because we gamble with the idea of third term, we normally keep the question of succession in suspence. There is nothing wrong with many candidates declaring their interests and holding primaries to weed out those who are not popular! Annointing of leaders by the incumbent is not democratic. The idea of running mate as vice president should also be considered in the new constitution. I see these ministers making a lot of pronouncements because they compete for attention and for the post of vice president! As a result, respectable ministers end up talking like cadres, imagine the kind of presidence

  9. Mutati and Levy are made of the same corrupted cloth. Zambia must get rid of the mmd if it is to make any progress as an independent nation. I look forward to seeing the mmd banned for abuse of public office at all levels.

  10. Hope Mugabe will help us convict Levy and Mutati for corruption with the Chinese and Indians. All those foreign accounts! Mukalila!!

  11. No.15 u brainless leader do u know that in ur capacity u can be tried for treason asking another president of a foreign country to help u convict the incumbent leadership jeopardises national security ZSIS can filter your internet paths and strike u where it hurts dont think that because this is a blog u can talk reacklessly like that… some ppl have been killed and have disappeared for stupid remarks like that imwe tamwa ishiba ati its the system….alo pitilisha

  12. cAN WE ALL PLEASE SHOW A BIT OF MATURITY. This is no platform to start insulting eachother #17 and #16

  13. The earlier you guys chose the leader of your party ,the better.he has to be groomed and be cautious with the Mulobgotis and Tetas of the mmd.

  14. Look at this insecure coward i played with his feelings so much that his balls shriveled i never insulted anyone but intimidated them because they are misleading voters on this blog now this son of a galu no.17 he even hides his identity and then attacks me….lol… u sensitive dudes y’all need hugs!!!!…Lol!! this is politics and my work is that of a spin doctor if i caught ur attention then i know i have done my job….Lol…..

  15. AHHHHHHHHHHHH…….So you even have the decency to caution our members when in the actual sense you have already told them your intention to stand!! Wow……………..mmmmmmmmmm

  16. ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmuuuuuuuuuuuuum………………………………ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuummmmmmmmmmmmuum eya!

  17. Aya ba mulongoti, why not even understanding that considering to recognise the successor of the presdo is part of organizing the party and consolidating it.Yaba i know this kafupi man wanna be presdo.

  18. FACT [8], you seem to know more than you are letting on … are you part of the ‘powers driving the party’?

  19. If what pipo have conceived is tru (that mulongoti is campeigning) then london and other foreign and overseas mmd branches aren’t the right venues for that-campeigning. Zambians living abroad are de-franchised. Meaning, no ballot can be won from abroad. Please, franchise zambians abroad. An important issue for consideration in the constitution discussion. Isn’t it?

  20. keep in mind this is MMD’s last term of office? we know MMD is the titanic…..you shall see how fortune seekers will abadon ship towards 2011 ….the year for HH. Sata’s heart shall disappointment him ( I hope for good) very soon, lubinda and guy scot shall fail to hold the party together. viva HH….UNDP.

  21. Analyst(24),
I strongly suspect this FACT is a signature machinery active in the war room agenda but conspicuously pulling the strings in remote mode.Too calculative in blogging impossible to be posting from without. This world is full of drama.

  22. Its a pit that Zambia don’t have leaders. How can a villager like Mulongoti and that Teta-thing dream to rule you people? Whoever thought of Felix Mutati was bright to wash faces of some of these people. Why can’t people discuss Fundanga, Hakainde, or old people such as Ba Amussa Mwanamwabwa?

  23. Fellow zambians I will be standing for presidency in 2011. Im still cashing up funds(legally) for those hectic rallies.

    Just watch this blog…………………..

Your trully First female President of zambia

  24. Come 2011 wina azalilaaa!! Emotuli mu ciibwato!! The issue of a successor will definetly disintegrate MMD and PF will come capitalize on that.Already the entire copperbelt and urban Lusaka is PF through out.

  25. The shallowness of Mulongoti’s thinking never ceases to amaze me!! I Will somebody in the MMD, so full of lawyers and legal brains, please, please explain to Mulongoti preferravl=bly in a language he understands that declaring one’s intention to contest for a party position, including that of party president and republican president is all part of the political process of organizing the party itself!

  26. STOP BOTHERING YOURSELVES CHAPS,THERE’LL BE NO MMD AFTER THE 2011 ELECTION EVEN CHUCHU IS AWARE OF THIS FACT.COME 2011 TULEKOLOPA BAKAPALA MWALYA PAFULA, BA MULONGOTI JUST START PREPARING YOUR HANDOVER NOTES BCOZ THIS TIME WILL LEAVE NO STONE UNTURNED.SOUTHERN PROVINCE TULEINGILA,WESTERN,N/WESTERN.MUCHIBWATO EMTULI,MULENYA.

  27. Imwe ba kabalwe mubwato there is no chance of u guys sweeping 2011 already u are having wrangles on who should stand as President, u havent gone to the convention yet, your popularity on the copperbelt is on the decline it is only lsk where u are causing big problems and the average voter does not think you have any viable policies whatsoever apart from just tearing cabbages at rallies. Our mining industries are in the control of asian power countries china and india whilst u guys boast small taiwan, do u honestly think people will opt for ur fanatical fontini leadership? Already mulenyela mu millpark jo’burg tukamona, and please Southern, Western, Nwestern are all MMD strongholds.

  28. MMD in London. What a bummer! Well, they deserve to be addressed by Mulongoti. Kwati ni ku Matero. Who is their leader in London? Even ppl in Lsk and the CB have figured out that MMD is a dead horse.

  29. party cadres who are mediocre in golf and thinking are unleashed on the world stage globe trotting
