Faz Premier League Week 9 Wrap-up

Share

Green Buffaloes on Saturday rallied to draw 1-1 at home against Roan United and in the process go top of the Faz Premier League after 9 matches played.

However, Buffaloes benefited from former leaders Young Arrows first league defeat of the season after losing 2-1 at home to Lusaka Dynamos at Nkoloma Stadium in Lusaka.

Buffaloes, Young Arrows and Zesco United, who drew 1-1 at home against Red Arrows, are all on 16 points in 1st, 2nd and 3rd places respectively after round 9 of matches played this weekend in the top-flight.

At Woodlands Stadium, Buffaloes came from 1-0 down in the first half after Roan had taken a 27th minute lead via a Ben Mwanza penalty to shared the points with their guest.

Buffaloes also found the target from a penalty of their own in the 76th minute that was converted by Lawrence Phiri.

There was very little to separate these two teams though Buffaloes were a wee bit better than Roan in attack.

Young Arrows meanwhile came down to Earth with a bang when Dynamos good run over the last one month continued with a 2-1 win over the former leaders.

Dynamos victory was sprinkled with a little bit of the old and new with 21-year-old defender Hichani Himoode scoring one and veteran striker Cosmas Banda getting the other for the visitors from Queensmead.

Kruger Mwansa scored his 4th goal of the season and Young Arrows consolation in a week they are hoping to forget very quickly.

In Ndola, Jonah Sakuwaha found the target for Zesco while Timothy Mbewe scored the other for Red Arrows in the two teams 1-1 draw at the Trade Fair Grounds.

Nkana’s hopes of a second away win in Lusaka were shuttered on the same day when they lost to Zanaco after the 4-time league champions rallied to beat ex-Zambia coach Patrick Phiri’s men 3-1 at Sunset Stadium.

Nkana had a false start after they took a 1-0 lead as early as the 2nd minute thanks to a Kennedy Nkethani own-goal.

However, Zanaco roared back to life with goals from Kelvin Kaindu Winston Kalengo and Roger Kola-the latter scoring his 6th goal of the season.

Zanaco are 4th with 15 points from 9 league matches played.

Kabwe Warriors bounced back after a spate of poor results and upheavals on their bench when they beat away side Nchanga Rangers 1-0 at Railway Grounds in Kabwe.

Emmanuel Mayuka scored his 5th goal of the season with a strike on 40 minutes to give  Warrior’s Egyptian-born coach Mohamed Fathy something to smile about after a rough 30 days.

Warriors are 7th on 12 points after their victory over Rangers who are just below them in 8th place on 11 points.

City of Lusaka traveled to Power Dynamos where they finished scoreless while Ackim Musunge’s Green Eagles beat Nkwazi 1-0 in Lusaka through a Shemu Kamanga goal to move into 10th place.

Konkola Blades recorded their second win of the season after an emphatic 3-0 home victory over bottom of the table Chambishi at Konkola Stadium in Chililabombwe.

Chipulu Chileya, Collins Kabwe and Thomas Nyirenda goals handed Blades the 3 poin

  1. Change that Irish…”Buffaloes were a wee bit better”! and write proper oxford english which is used in Zambian schools!!!

  2. the rate at which GBFC are going this season is a bit worrying where is the problem exactly? Is it the caoch or players, i don’t think that the sponsors have a problem with one of the big teams in Zed. George can you please pull up your socks or face the boot.

  3. Good job Cosmas Banda for helping your team Lusaka Dynamos win.it is nice to see a one time good player hanging around the league. I wish you well this season Cosmas.

  4. Well done Sharp Konkola Blades!!Continue doing fine. All gonna be alright in the near future. The sky is the limit.

  5. OOh gosh! A lesson to all CB teams is that they must dig deeper in the wallets this coming transfer window and buy quality players, it seems its only Lusaka teams that are doind very well. Nkana must be careful not to go back to division 1. Buy quality players, dont rely on the finished Gift.
