Zambian xenophobic victims in SA swell to 149

Share

Lusaka, June 2, ZANIS-Government says the number of Zambians who are homeless in South Africa following the xenophobic attacks in that country has risen to 149 from about 109 recorded on Friday last week.

Home Affairs Minister Ronnie Shikapwasha says government is making arrangements through the Zambian High Commission in South Africa to facilitate the return of about 30 Zambians who have expressed interest in coming back.

General Shikapwasha said the xenophobic attacks in South Africa have continued to be a source of worry.

General Shikapwasha was speaking during the 24th Synod meeting of the United Church of Zambia, UCZ, in Kabwe today.

The minister called on the church to take an aggressive approach in dealing with issues that are robbing humankind of love and destroying lives.

General Shikapwasha said society continues to grapple with banditry, rape, defilement, and xenophobic attacks whose answers lie in love and unity among humankind.

The minister urged the church to preach the doctrine of peace and reconciliation at all levels of society.

He said President Mwanawasa and PF leader Michael Sata have led the way in reconciliation which Zambians at large should emulate.

Meanwhile, the Immigration Department has tightened security at all border entry points to ensure people coming into the country have legal documentation.

Immigration Department Acting Public Relations Officer, Kennedy Simenda said disturbances in some neighboring countries have resulted in an influx of illegal immigrants into Zambia.

He said the department has deployed officers in all border towns to monitor the inflow.

Mr. Simenda told ZNBC news that the department is currently undertaking an operation to remove all illegal immigrants.

And Mr. Simenda said the immigration department has deported 10 Tanzanian nationals whose period of stay in Zambia had expired.

  1. It is a sad development. As I said elsewhere African states should condemn this behaviour in the strongest words possible just as they did to apartheid regime. Mbeki should never be given rest. This is reverse apartheid and is not only disgusting but shameful too.

  2. The truth remains that the causes of this violence lie in the deep socio-economic challenges of our respective countries. Poverty and hopeless deprivation continue to biting with a sting- building tension over scarce resources. We need to accelerate building our own economies with every sense of urgency. These Social outbursts are easily precipitated by and malicious third force in the Fifth column category.

  3. Condemnation without lasting domestic solutions economically is a futile exercise.Such social outbursts are deep worsened off by the current climate of rising prices. The propensity for heightened even wider madness to uncontrollable levels need serious answers.

  4. Our heads of states have been converging on many economic summits with the latest one being in Japan for the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD), it is imperative that we collectively reflect on our African interests. We already have had Sino-Africa, Euro-Africa, Indo-Africa and now TICAD. The most common denominator in them all is aid. What pains is the fact that most donors are also engaged in corruption that paralyzes African economies. Its time to review some of these arrangements and determine our real interest as Africans.

  5. Some donors at most attach very unrealistic aid conditions, for instance the consultancies and tendering are always done by the companies from the same donor countries which subject most receiving African countries to grinding poverty as half of the aid is consumed by such companies leaving Africans with massive external debts in our books of debt contractual accounts.

  6. Some donors at most attach unrealistic aid conditions, for instance the consultancies & tendering are always done by their companies from the donor countries. This subjects most receiving countries to grinding poverty as half of the aid is consumed by such companies leaving Africans with massive external debts in our books of debt contractual accounts. In the past here under Chiluba regime, these donors allegedly meet our government ministers in exclusive hotels where they signed agreements without scrutinizing the documents. Most of those binding statements from such meetings favored donors and not Africans. Such unrealistic moves should be avoided & never show their devious heads again.

  7. Such donors need to be censored first. Why milk a continent wallowing in social ills until dry in the name of aid? Sadly most non democratic African governments have executive sweeping powers on international and bilateral economic engagement. They leave no room for independent evaluation of aid use for audit purposes as we do here in our Country, Zambia where transparency is a norm. The donors use such powers to secretly meddle with our economies. Nothing regarding a country should be signed in an exclusive setting as this threatens transparency & democracy which we are working so hard to achieve around the continent.

  8. It appears xenophobia has had some positives also. It appears some government officers were not doing their job properly:
‘And Mr. Simenda said the immigration department has deported 10 Tanzanian nationals whose period of stay in Zambia had expired.”

In all, I hope the situation will be normalised in the near future.

Otherwise, let our immigiration officers do the job they are being paid for diligently.

  9. In the face of the summits we have attended as Africans among such as: Sino-Africa, Euro-Africa, Indo-Africa and now TICAD, could we start planning to host a frank intra-Africa summit to strategize on how to exploit our natural resources to generate income and end these social outbursts just started in South Africa?

  10. Returning home is the only wise thing to do after one successfully completes his foreign studies.Opportunities are created by people not Ghosts as many so wish. All successful nations and the opportunities therein, where developed by their people. They initiated ideas and immigrants just followed them in realizing the conceived dream. This lame duck blogging criticism here day in and out has no future or dividend.

  11. Mbeki is a very weak president. He has allowed such a thing to continue and get out of hand.People have lost their lives and property.

  12. People like the so called Development Specialist, Theoretician,Tombolilo and the likes have been blogging on almost all Zambian blogs that show up since 2001. Ask them if they have anything to point at as their memorable or landmark achievement in real terms as far as the real world Governance is concerned.

  13. Prof. Hansungule’s remarks as the cause make a lot of sense in RSA as it also does here in Zed. The state is non-existant in these areas hence the communities devise their standards of what is right and what is not right. We have heard that Chibolya (in Lusaka) is a haven of illicit drugs and that the long arm of whoever cannot even have its presence felt there if it is there at all.

  14. Getting back to the river where the waters are and not objectionless blogging year after year is the way forward. Every time to scan through servers you find the same lame ducks with the same wishful and distorted rhetoric shy of an audience running riotous for nothing.Grow up and get your lives straightened up folks.Time is not waiting for you.

  15. i wish we never kept these fools in zambia, this is a lesson we spent a lot of money on ANC ,SWAPO and ZIMBABWE,and this is what we get danm mother f……..kers.

  16. People blog out of interest or to pass FREE time, and not to get a future or dividend out of it. Besides, what makes you think you’re any better than Development Specialist, Theoretician and the likes that you’re dissing here? You don’t know anything about them beyond what they blog. How can you be a senior citizen with such a shallow mind? Be wise enough to realise that people have a life away from blogging which you know not about. Some of these bloggers are the same people you admire in their normal lives. But they never use their true identity on blogs. Do you think any one can take a blogger who says goes by the name Mandela seriously? It doesn’t make sense critising bloggers for blogging.

  17. Im sorry, but i just have to make this comment.

    #2-8. Pragmatist

Please use Simple and straight forward English. It’s not that i cannot understand what you’re saying, it’s just that i got bored on the second paragraph of reading your posts. I don’t know if you’re trying to use high grammar in order to seem intelligent or maybe thats how you speak but it’s quite boring to tell you the truth.

It’s not how you say things that make you intelligent.
    It’s what you say.

  18. Crazy_Zambian,
As your name goes i don’t blog to appease you or any of your fellow troubled souls. Why do you read my posts? Surely there is no obligation for you read them or me writing elementary level lingo to fit you in.The world is no short of those with the multiple challenges like you. Just yesterday you father in the NCC deliberations was equally complaining that the constitution debates have taken the direction of difficulty jargons synonymous with lawyers only giving endless headache.Broaden your reading skills don’t be too mechanical in life.

  19. Crazy_Zambian
As your name goes, i don’t blog to appease you or any of your fellow troubled souls. Why do you read my posts? Surely there is no obligation for you to keep reading them or me writing elementary level lingo to fit you in because i’m not your teacher of English. The world has no shortage of those with the multiple challenges like you. Just yesterday your father in the NCC deliberations was equally complaining that the constitution debates have taken the direction of difficulty lawyers’ jargons only giving him endless headache.Broaden your reading skills don’t be too mechanical in life.

  20. Life of just settling on Trigs, calculus, Chemistry or aerodynamics boundaries is very challenging when you step into the Behavioral and social science circles where writing is very intensive.I’m not surprised hearing your same old but mutative mouth accusing me that i use a dictionary. Far from your fallacy, i have a rich background of writing volumes of papers for important level analysis.Ask any economist, Public policy analyst or some international politics country specialist how much paper work they put down.Ask for a copy and follow their lingo.

  21. #21. Pragmatist

First, you say you don’t blog to appease anyone and that im not obliged to read your posts. So then i ask, why do you blog if you do not want anyone to read your posts. You wrote something on this blog so that people can read them. I mean, isn’t that the point.

Secondly, what makes you think my father was part of the NCC, you don’t know me and yet you think it is intelligent to make such a claim when you know nothing about me. Prove my Father was part of the NCC, i dare you.

If i have something to say, and what i say makes sense, then i will take my elementary school English level and say what i have to say. People will not judge me by the way i write things but on what

  22. cont…
    i say.

IF what i say makes sense, then the vocabulary i use wont matter, what will matter is what I’ll say.

  23. cont…

Thirdly, when have i accused you of using a dictionary. That is a lie. Provide proof that i accused you of using a dictionary.

  24. Crazy_Zambian,
Out of what i have put down here could you show me which words have been too big and confusing for you more? There is none here if you a normal person and not just the usual deviant. Is that reason why you keep insulting me with derogatory hoping i could be deflated? You are dealing with a wrong person brother and God bless you and you off-springs from the day you were born to the day time will confront you for an internal and eternal change.

  25. 26. Pragmatist

There you go with your lies again. When have i ever insulted you. Even on this page, tell me which derogatory term i have called you.

All i said was simplify your English a little, if that is so hard all you had to say was you couldn’t because this is the way you are used at speaking/writing.

ON the whole, God bless you part. I know you didn’t say that out of the kindness of your heart but rather to curse me. But whatever the motive, i guess i am obliged to accept your blessing and thank you.

  26. “why do you blog if you do not want anyone to read your posts” Quote.

    Crazy_Zambian,
Surely, in communication there’re many channels of realizing objectives.Even in the print media you will find a lot of communication that many don’t get what is in between them. But those with a commitment to it are locked it from A-Z and the process is complete. Not everything is for a layman. This world is too complicated for you realize how challenging it is.Even our riotous surrogates here who resort to insults on progressives, i know there mind and motives better than you.

  27. This is uselessness of the govt. How can they still be making arrangements upto now. What is so difficult in hiring buses and putting people on them to comeback. Is there any justifications for people to still be stranded in camps. Money can be found in the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit budget line since they like to justify any rigidity as being tied to the budgets unless its a by-election.

Please bring our people home and stop telling lies of arrangements. Mozambique and Zimbabwe already got there people,

  28. By the way, let’s not look for donors or foreigners to bring our people. For once, use ur own pocket (as its the govt’s social responsibility)

  29. “If i have something to say, and what i say makes sense, then i will take my elementary school English level and say what i have to say. People will not judge me by the way i write things but on what” Quote

    Crazy_Zambian,
I’m not a philosopher but allow me to earnestly ask you this one, What makes you think your posts make sense and who are those people you think deduce logic from your posts???

  30. Crazy_Zambian,

In summary allow me to say that your confusion over my posts is nothing, but an actor’s perception of discrepancy between expectations and your value capabilities.

Seriously review your “expectations and value capabilities”. Compare the two behavioral variables to those of your like minds who pronounce their confusion here too. There will be a perfect correlation. On cursing, be assured i don’t belong to such minds. Mine are genuine blessings to you. If anything, i wish you could reform & make yourself relevant in our administration to take over from the icons of Democracy selflessly serving now.

  31. Between Pragmatist and Crazy_Zambian one of you is really a pompous man.Your contributions explains it all

  32. On my last sentence in the last paragraph per # 35, I’m making a very serious filler to you. Don’t ever think the future developments will be from without.Start positioning yourselves for national relevancy.Insults will not only eat away those surrogates but ruin their place in history for life. The battle of ideas and a better future does not forgive some madness unless there be a genocide that will wipe away all of us observant patriots. Vindicate me on this one. Some actions today may remain life time tolls 30 years along the way regime after regime.Do you know that there some people who boobed in 1972 yet the toll is on them three regimes after today?

  33. EXCESSIVE LOQUACITY IS INCOMPATIBLE WITH MENTAL FECUNDITY-THIS MESSAGE IS FOR YOU SO-CALLED PRAGMATIST.

  34. Yah, ba Pragmatist, Keep It Straight and Simple, no need to use higher order vocabulary to communicte to a low level fora, your points valid as they are all seem to go to the rubbish pit because in Linguistics, too much of meandering paragraphs just hit the boredom button to the reader and i bet you understand how to divide a story in 3 major parts, intro, main body and conclusion. You seem to dwell on the introduction aspect and as you go to the main body, you end up not giving the readership a good conclusion hence some one cannot make sense by reading your first and last parts of your blogs, as a result, more people get bored than glued to read what you upload on the LT.

  35. They all talk fast but they all think slow.

Pragmatist … please restrict the lingo to your readers of so-called complex issues. Other than that, you’re just a literate villager with the talent of a monkey’s uncle. Insulted? That’s the point – maybe you’ll stop boring us.

  36. I wonder where Shikapwasha is getting those figures from. Chances are some of the pipo claiming to be Zambians may actually be from Congo,Tanzania or even Zimbabwe. They are trying to get a free ride by claiming to be Zambians.I dont believe that many Zambians could be staying in Shanties in RSA.All the violence has been in the shanties and most nationalities affected speak Zulu or some local South African language that is why Mozis,Zimbos,Lesothos and Swazis are most affected.Zambia’s immigration needs to chack any one coming thru our borders thouroughly

  37. The Xenophobia madness ended 2 weeks ago and you tell me the govt is still arranging to transport the displaced. Is this some kind of a Joke? Those displaced need to come back home. It takes 18 hrs to come back to Z by bus. Going by the number given it is two loads of buses. Why are those Zambians living in police stations etc when freedom is is only 18 hrs away? They are just embarrasing themselves and our country. Why were they living in the townships in the first place. Govt get serious and bring them home dont waste no time.

  38. Well said # 42 alot of these guys are not Zambians. They claim to be Zambians so that they can get preferential treatment and may be hitch a ride to Lusaka or something. These pipo must be brought home they indeed lack pride, how can they be sleeping in tents provided by UNHCR when the can come home. Zambians keep refugees we are not refugees.aLL it will take is two CR buses and they are home is shikapwasha saying the govt does not not have US $ 10,000.00 to pay CR? because that is how much two bus trips will cost from JHB to Lusaka.

  39. Pragmatist kindly keep your contributions short. that way we will appreciate your sense but when it is long nah. Now Mr Shikapwasha what are you arranging? all you need is someone check the documentation of the so called Zambians, verify and put on the bus. It does not need to take three weeks to do that.If there is any Zambians indeed who is in these camps give them ultimatums to go home or disown them.I see no reasons why Zambians should be refugees when all along we have been refugees keepers. Zambia is not at war so those Zambians in Tents eating donated meals contact me i will pay for your transport back home. dont embarss us

  40. my understanding is it costs R 500.00 for a one way trip from JHB to Lusaka.so if there are 150 pipo then it will be R 75,000.00.Roughly about $ 10,000.00 as my brother put it. Why is it taking the govt forever to raise that money.Zimbabwe has transported over 10,000 of their own and yet we are struglling to bring 150 pipo. This is an outrage.I also support comments earlier which indicates that some pipo may not be Zambians afterall. That is why govt needs to act swiftly so that we dont end up bringing illegal immigrants purpoting to be Zambians.

  41. Why is it that Zambians can see the sticks in S. African eyes but are not able to see the logs in their own eyes? We have xenophobia right here in Zambia, starting from State House where LPM has ensured that only his relatives take up all the plum jobs regardless of their performance at the expense of the vast pool of Zambians who are capable in all spheres of skills.

We also have xenophobia in all countries: In India, all foreigners pay double what citizens pay for all services. In UK, all foreign students pay double or more than what local pay for university fees. In the US, foreigners are finger printed, photgraphed, interrogated at the port of entry and yet citizens have it easy.

  42. The scenario given is that violence was only in the townships then what the F%$k Were Zambians doing in the Shanties in a foreign land? Honestly reason pipo migrate is to up their livelihood so if uping your life means to go and stay in a shanty abroad then where the hell were you staying before? Come on Zambians you can do better than this. Get the hell out of those Refugee camps and come home.We know you have a relative or friend who can give you 500.00 Rands to come home. Stop degrading your selves

  43. # 47 what we have at state house is nepotism and not xenophobia you must use the correct terms. Secondly giving preference to indigenous citizens is not Xenophobia. Kindly look up the word in the dictionary before you cause some damages to your name

  44. Anonymous # 18,

“People blog out of interest or to pass FREE time, and not to get a future or dividend out of it”. Excerpt

No wonder 97 % of debates here are tales of disjoint views without elements of direction year after year. In civility, blogs are supposed to be adding to opinion leadership with some element of intellectual value catalyzing social movements on the grounds and not as centers of boredom and appeasing each other which you are in here.

  45. Anonymous # 18
Blogs are supposed to be third force engines of “idea generation” an attribute that creates an automatic dividend to the nation for common good presently or in future. If you say “People blog out of interest or to pass FREE time, and not to get a future or dividend out of it” you only reveal how naive and quarantined your mind is my young boy.Dividend is not purely people, but realizing any objective for the common good. You cannot be a Chimbwi no plan in life but just interest and passing FREE time.

  46. Anonymous # 18

Dividend is not purely personal, but realizing or meaningfully impacting objectives for the common good on the ground. You cannot be blogging year after year as a Chimbwi no plan in life but just having interest in passing your so called free time.Such motivation is the basis of the 97% visionless and disjoint kids talking shops year after year we see of you soliciting for individual appeasements if not insulting each other. That is an aimless life you resigned to.

  47. #33. Pragmatist

I never said my points make sense. I was making the point that “IF i have something to say and what i say makes sense, the language will not matter”. What is deemed sensible is up to the other Zambian readers reading my post, not what I deem to be sensible.

If i think what i say is sensible without getting the approval of the vast majority of bloggers on this website, then i would be lying to myself.

  48. #34. Pragmatist

What makes me think you do not know me is because you lied about my father taking part in the NCC which is a BIG LIE and you know it.

I asked you for proof that my dad took part in the NCC and you failed to present it. Where is the proof.

  49. Getting back to the river where the waters are and not objectionless blogging year after year is the way forward. Every time we visit the blog and scan through servers we find the same lame ducks with the same wishful and distorted rhymes shy of an audience running riotous for nothing.Grow up and get your lives straightened up my young men.Time is not waiting for you if you have such a perennial bored lives in the habit of aimlessly soliciting from each other the “make me feel good appeasements”.

  50. It is easy to say those Zambians stranded as a result of Xeno must come back. To me this the ‘first aid’ in addressing people displaced by this violence. What we need to focus on how RSA is going to address Xenophobia in longer term. African Govmts need to continue to apply diplomatic pressure as Nigeria is doing. By the way the Nigeian Presido is RSA for 3 day state visit… on the angeda as reported by RSA press..is Xenophobia. Tanzanian Presido also said at just ended Japan-Africa summit that RSA and Eypt are getting lion share from Japanese aid to Africa. It is pressure like these that will changes RSA self-imposed leadership on Africa. The bottomline is RSA is not an island!!

  51. Blogging is good if it is generating ideas and impacting social causes not aimed at the individual’s feel me good appeasements or means of just clearing your boredom.

  52. Today, pipo here on each others’ case. I have just gone thro one-on-one, instead of debating the issue at hand.Come guys, ligthen up, no reason to personal with strangers.

#42 is very right.Never heard fo a zambian in these townships here. They must be congolese and zimbabweans.I’m sure the tone and accent will giev them away.Imagine asking a congolese where he comes from, instead of saying Lusaka, he says Lusaki.

  53. #35. Pragmatist

My expectations are very simple, i expect you to write a post that can be easily read and understood. Hiding behind big words is not gonna enable anyone to read your posts. It’s just plain simple. Not everyone went to some grammar school like you or majored in Literature or English. Im pretty sure if an IT grad started talking about IT stuff using IT language, most of us including you would be scratching our heads.

And please explain my like minds.

Again, you don’t even know me and yet you judge me. And so i’ll ask you this, you’re judging me based on what????
I would seriously like to know.

  54. #60, Point of correction, there are some Zambians living in the townships. I met one living in KwaThema (Springs) and another one who runs a vehicle repair shop in Tembisa (Kempton Park). Interestingly, i heard both are fine and have not been affected. But like you and others point out, a good number claiming to be Zambians are foreigners. I was in school with a guy from DRC who had a Zambian passport. Guy spoke such bad Bemba you can throw up. He later told me he got in Lusaka when he was a refugee. A lecturer once asked him why he can’t articulate himself well in English like other Zambians!!

  55. #42 chimwemwe funny you should write. I was thinking the some thing. I am still getting loads of calls and sms’s from relatives and friends from Zed who are dead worried and asking me if I am ok and I should just come back home. I don’t know where the Zambian media is getting their info. from but the xenophobic issue ended way back and people have started to move on and if there are any Zambian that where affected they should be in Zambia by now. Otherwise as Chimwemwe said those complaining could be other foreign nations pretending to be Zambian. Other than that no Zambian i know is displaced but just complaining about the high expenses of fuel and basic home items…Period

  56. You guys who are fighting on this blog are boring me. Senior Citizen naimwe bambi you ve maid yor points now move on pileeeese! Eish! Nya s bora

  57. Kaoma man found with human organs, arrested
POLICE in Kaoma have arrested a man who was found with a human heart and sexual organs suspected to have been cut from a woman who was murdered recently.ambia Police Service spokesperson, Bonnie Kapeso, confirmed the arrest of a man whose name has been withheld for fear of jeopardising investigations.Mr Kapeso said the arrest is linked to the murder of Malasasi Kalembwe, 28, of Sakaliata village in Chief Nabulyuti who was killed on May 24, 2008 around 19:00 hours by a man armed with a spear.

  58. “Two women went for shopping and on their way back, they were attacked by a man who was armed with a spear. The other person was injured and had her breast, heart and genitals cut (off),” Mr Kapeso said. The suspect later hanged the human parts at his house and police arrested him following a tip off from members of the public.Mr Kapeso said the suspect was later arrested with the dried body parts suspected to have been cut from Malasasi Kalembwe’s body.“We arrested the man after a tip off from the members of the public he was also found with three gloves stained with blood,” he said.

  59. Nepotism – favouatism shown to relatives in securing jobs.
Xenophobia – fear or hatred of strangers or things foreign.

I withdraw my urgement that LPM was Xenophobic through employing his relatives in all critical public jobs. He is essentially a chronic Nepotist. Does our law address this mental sickness?
Since LPM is a lwayer, it is most likely that Zambia will continue to wallow in the current corrupt laws as they are all in the best interest of LPM and his economic hooligans in the GRZ and MMD.

  60. Well, most of the people on this site were in the forefront of saying “Chiluba should be allowed a third term to finish his programs”. The man was literally destroying the country and yet most of you still think he is being unjustifiably prosecuted. Well, now you know he destroyed the only home you have. South Africans are now saying “kuya bebele”. Soon it will be Tswanas and Namibians showing you the door. I am glad I am Barotse ans in both Botswana and South Africa, I am at home and am not affected. Let Luapulans run to where they came from too, KOLWEzi in Katanga. Maybe next time we tell you “Chiluba na Satanyoko ni ba sakalanyongo”, you will listen!

  61. Why are turning this blog into your into your personal vendetta ring?
We are not interested! If you know each send emails or skype each other, you *****s. We don’t want to know who your stupid fathers are.

  62. A University of Namibia student died after being stabbed while chasing a teenage robber who had snatched a cellphone from a fellow Unam student on Friday evening in Katutura.

The university has been plunged into mourning following the death of 24-year-old Zambian Mwelwa Mwange, who was a third-year Bachelor of Business Administration student.

Utaara Hoveka, Unam’s Pu-blic Relations Officer, yesterday summed up the university’s anguish following Mwelwa’s tragic death.

“We are devastated. It is regrettable that a young and promising student’s life had to be cut short in such a horrific manner. The university extends its sincere condolences to the bereaved family and friends,”

  63. In Mad President, St Michael sings: “I am the police the judge and jury, I hire and fire at my own desire.”

“I make my own rules and I don’t need anyone to give me advice. I know everything. I am reason for your fear,”

Quoted from BBC. The song’s titled ‘mad president’.

I didn’t think Zed still has musicians with enough courage to say such things in their songs. The song must be dedicated to Bob or whoever it befits in the mind of the listener.

  64. #42 and #63 You have said it all. Most of these guys claiming to be Zambians are actually not Zambians. They got their passports through corrupt means. This is the reason why they want to remain in SA. They fear to be exposed and lose the opportunity of travelling back to SA. There are many Kasais with Zambian passports. The Ministry of Home Affairs must rid itself of corrupt officials especially at Registration offices and passport offices. One wonders what the ACC and the OP are doing. These offices did a commendable job during KK’s time. Now something seems to be amiss.

  65. Whats happening guys? We seem to be losing the plot with this blog. It was a platform for discussions please

  66. #74. Condolences to the family of Mwelwa Mwange’s family. To bad the turn of events lead to the tragic death although the intended aim was noble – to catch a thief.

Back to the chain of blog messages, please let us try to stick to the topic at hand in lieu of showing off or defending oneself. “The truth does not need defending it” – Unknown.

As for the so-called 149 stranded Zambians, please GRZ, strunise their case and establish whether they are truly Zambian. We are tired of people masquarading as Zambians and tarnishing the name of our caountry and true nationals. If those people or some of them are holding fake passport or whatever IDs, let the law visit them.

  67. this zed blog stinks, bloggers brag, some feel more than others, there goes pragamist and the crazy zambian again.lean to respect other people’s opinion and at times learn tojust read without objection, this is not a competition platform, its about ideas, knowledge and constructive debate you fools

  68. Stick to the issue at hand. To remind those who have forgotten,”Xenophobic attacks in RSA” is the issue at hand. Cheap personal attacks and cheap grammar scores are boring and clogging the blog. Lets have value-adding comments please!!

  69. The Zambian government has been slow in helping the Zambian nationals stuck in South Africa. Zimbabwe, Malawi and Mozambique moved in two weeks ago to repatriate the willing nationals. And these nations had thousands of stranded people.

However Zambia has failed to repatriate, the 30 or so stranded people who are willing to get back to Zambia (the rest still want to try their chances in SA).

The Barotse man who thinks Xenophobia doesnt affect him is mistaken. When our lozi friends speak Tswana, it sounds like the Congolese trying to speak Bemba. The pronounciation is completely off. In fact they are greater targets, coz its believed they are trying to con thier way into the country

  70. I got this email from a Zambian in Botswana. Very funny i must say:I JUST WANT TO WARN ALL WHO TRAVEL AROUND THE AFRICAN CONTINENT TO BE CAREFUL NOT TO BECOME VICTIMS OF XENOPHOBIC ATTACKS AS IT HAPPENED TO ME ON FRIDAY 23RD IN LUSAKA,ZAMBIA. I WAS ATTENDING TRAINING ON FINANCIAL INVESTIGATIVE TECHNIQUES AND MONEY LAUNDERING THEREAT FROM THE 18TH – 23RD. ON FRIDAY AFTER THE AWARD OF CERTIFICATES IN THE EVENING A GROUP OF DELEGATES FROM SOUTH AFRICA, MALAWI, MAURITIUS, SEYCHELLES AND MYSELF FROM BOTSWANA DECIDED THAT SINCE WE WERE SICK AND TIRED OF HOTEL FOOD WE SHOULD GO AND DINE AT ONE OF THE RESTAURANTS IN THE CITY CENTER.IT WAS AROUND 8 O’CLOCK WHEN WE ARRIVED AT A PLACE CALLED ALPHA,YOU

  71. KNOW THE TYPE LIKE DROS/O’HAGANS.WE SAT AND ORDERED OUR FOOD.ABOUT 30 MINUTES LATER I WENT TO THE ‘LADIES’.WHILST I WAS INSIDE I HEARD NOISE BY MY TOILET DOOR BUT I JUST DIDN’T TAKE JUDICIAL NOTICE OF IT FOR ONE REASON OR ANOTHER BECAUSE I HAD I TAKEN JUDICIAL NOTICE I COULD HAVE CALLED THE OTHER DELEGATES AND INFORMED THEM AS I HAD MY CELLPHONE IN MY POCKET.

JUST AS I OPENED THE DOOR I FOUND A GROUP OF 8 LADIES OF ABOUT MY AGE BUT WELL BUILT IN TERMS OF HEIGHT AND STRUCTURE YOU KNOW THE LIKES OF MY FRIEND SUE MANGORI, EACH OF THEM HOLDING A BOTTLE OF THE ZAMBIAN LOCAL BREW CALLED MOSI.6 OF THEM PUSHED ME BACK INSIDE AND LOCKED THE DOOR WHILST THE REMAINING 2 STOOD OUTSIDE BY THE DOOR

  72. TO MAKE IT APPER AS IF THEY WERE QUEING.THE LADIES ASKED ME IF I WAS SOUTH AFRICAN AND I TOLD THEM I WAS A MOTSWANA.THEY DEMANDED TO SEE MY ID BUT I DID NOT HAVE IT AT THE TIME AS I HAD LEFT MY HANDBAG AT THE TABLE WITH THE OTHER DELEGATES, THE LADIES STARTED ACCUSING ME OF BEING A LIAR AND MAINTAINED THAT I WAS SOUTH AFRICAN.I PLEADED FOR MY RELEASE BUT THEY COULD NOT TAKE IT, THREATENED TO SMASH ME INTO PIECES WITH THE BOTTLES THEY WERE HOLDING AND FLUSH ME DOWN THE TOILET THEREAFTER.THE SITUATION WAS SO BAD THAT I WAS ASKED A LOT OF QUESTIONS ABOUT BOTSWANA RANGING FORM WHO THE PRESIDENT OF BOTSWANA IS TO THE CELLULAR NETWORKS OF BOTS AND THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THEM.DESPITE THE CORRECT

  73. DETAILS I GAVE THEM THEY STILL KEPT ME HOSTAGE,NOW CHANGING THEIR STORY TO SAY,YEA EVEN IF YOU PEOPLE IN BOTSWANA HAVE NOT ATTACKED ZAMBIANS YOU HAVE NOT DONE ANYTHING ABOUT THE ATTACKS IN SOUTH AFRICA.AT THIS POINT I STARTED TO REALISE THAT I WAS NOT GOING TO RETURN TO BOTSWANA ALIVE.LIKE MMA OT STUCK ON THE LIFT,I KEPT CALM,THOUGHT OF THE LORD MY LORD AND TOOK A SHORT PRAYER.WHAT TRAUMATISED ME MOST WAS THE FACT THAT IT WAS MY LITTLE GIRLS BIRTHDAY ON THAT DAY AND I WAS JUST ABOUT TO DIE.OH THANKS TO THE LORD ONE OF THE DELEGATES,A GENTLEMAN FROM MALAWI HAD A GUT FEELING.IN HIS OWN WORDS HE SAID HE COULD SENSE THAT SOMETHING WAS NOT RIGHT WHERE I WAS

  74. AND HE TOLD THE OTHERS THAT HE WAS GOING STRAIGHT TO THE ‘LADIES’ TO CHECK ON ME.THIS IS AFTER I HAD BEEN IN THE TOILET FOR ATLEAST 10 MINUTES.I COULD NOT BELIEVE IT WHEN I HEARD THAT GUYS VOICE CALLING MY NAME OUTSIDE,I THOUGHT I WAS DREAMING.AT THAT POINT I DECIDED I WAS NOW LOSING MY CALM, AND I JUST SCREAMED AT THE TOP OF MY VOICE.THE MALAWIAN GUY HEARD ME AND DECIDED TO JUST KICK THE DOOR OPEN. THE DRAMA STARTED AND NOW IT WAS THE SECURITY OFFICERS AND EVERYONE INCLUDING THE OTHER DELEGATES AND FINALLY THE DOOR WAS OPENED AND I WAS RETRIEVED.IT WAS SUCH A TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE,SO TRAUMATIC THAT ONCE I GOT OUTSIDE WE JUST LEFT FOR THE HOTEL AND MIND YOU OUR FOOD WAS ALREADY AT THE

  75. AT THE TABLE BUT THE SITUATION WAS SO BAD THAT WE COULD NOT SIT DOWN AND EAT.AS WE WALKED TOWARDS THE EXIT THIS GROUP,NOW JOINED BY ANOTHER CROWD CONSISTING OF GUYS FOLLOWED US AND WERE UTTERING INSULTS DIRECTED AT ME AND THE SOUTH AFRICAN DELEGATE,TELLING US THAT WE WERE BUSY ENJOYING FANCY DINNERS IN THEIR COUNTRY WHEN THEIR PEOPLE WERE BEING KILLED IN OUR COUNTRY.THATS THE SHORT STORY OF MY ORDEAL IN ZAMBIA.SO PEOPLE I WAS SYMPLY GIVING A WORD OF ADVISE TO YOU TO BE EXTRA CAREFUL WHEN YOU ARE IN FOREIGN COUNTRIES AND TO ENSURE THAT YOU ALWAYS CARRY SOME KIND OF ID WITH YOU EVEN IF IT MEANS PUTTING IT IN YOUR POCKECTS BECAUSE DUE TO PAST EXPERINCES WE ALWAYS FEAR TO WALK AROUND WITH OUR HA

  76. ND BAGS IN FOREIGN COUNTRIES FOR FEAR OF BEING ROBBED.THIS XENOPHOBIA ISSUE HAS GOTTEN OUT OF HANDS AND TOMORROW IT COULD BE YOU.AND TO THANK THE LORD FOR ANSWERING MY PRAYER ON TIME,AND TO MMA OT,IT IS TRUE IT WORKS,ON THE LIFT OR IN THE TOILET SURROUNDED BY 8 GIANT ZAMBIAN LADIES.

  77. Nice story Kandanji now get back to earth and continue being zambian.we already know that xenophobia is worlwide not just SA.
