Faz has officially confirmed the appointment of George Lwandamina as new Zambia national team assistant coach.
Lwandamina’s contract will run side-by-side with that of his boss Herve Renard for a period of three years until 2011.
The Green Buffaloes head coach will be on part-time with the national team and will be one of Renard’s two assistant coaches.
Frenchman and Renard’s compatriot Patrice Beaumelle is the other assistant who will be the team’s physical trainer.
Lwandamina has until his appointment been Under-20 coach where he has served from 2003 to date.
He led the Under-20 team to the 2007 Canada Fifa World Youth Cup where they reached the last 16.
Lwandamina also won the Cosafa Youth Championship with the Under-20 team in 2003 and finished runner-up twice in the same event in 2004 and 2006.
His previous club coaching commitments include Mufulira Wanderers from the early 1990’s to 2000 as both assistant and later head coach.
Lwandamina later joined Nchanga Rangers as one of Fodson Kabole’s assistant and was also in charge of the Chingola sides youth academy after Wedson Nyirenda left to join City of Lusaka as number 2 to Wesley Mondo.
He later left Rangers to replace Peter Kaumba at Buffaloes in 2002 whom he led to the club to the quarterfinals of the 2004 Caf Confederations Cup and the same stage of the defunct Caf Cup in 2003.
And Zambia goes into camp today in Lusaka to begin their first phase of training camp ahead of their 2010 World/Africa Cup Group11 qualifying match away to Swaziland on June 15.
Clubless striker Collins Mbesuma has also been included despite his fitness problems.
The team will include one new call-up in National Assembly defender Peter Zulu who is the only player in the team from a lower division club.
Renard has also recalled Lusaka Dynamos defender Hichani Himoonde who has been frozen out of the squad in the Frenchman’s opening three games in charge.
Also recalled is Young Arrows defender Whiteson Mwanza who has been drafted in place of Chambishi defender Sanida Zulu.
There is s shock omission of Power Dynamos midfielder Kennedy Mudenda while his team mate Francis Kasonde is out of the squad due to injury.
The team will break camp tomorrow before regrouping again on Sunday in Lusaka.

Cogrates “chicken”, I always thought Lwandamina was the right man, too bad Kaumba. He didn’t a good Job with the U20 last year.
Phiri should be the vice coach.
OVER FORTY YEARS DOWN THE LINE WE STILL RELY ON THIRD RATE FOREIGN COACHES.
Interesting, Mbesume is not ‘unattached’, he is ‘clubless!!!. He has NO CLUB.
#3, I agree with u the next thing we hear is that we have a foreign based FAZ pesident.
It is not the skin that matters its how qualified the person is thats important. And why do we always employ coaches from Zambia on part-time basis?
Good Appointment by FAZ, would have protested if Kaumba had been appointed. I think its now time for Fresh Coaches at Under 23
George Lwandamina is good choice as he knows Zambian players well, especially those from the U-20.
I dont know what you think fellow bloggers. The team appears to consist of the ‘best’ players we have at the moment, although experienced players like Sichone, Tana etc would have been there.
I AM NOT CLUBLESS,CHIEFS ARE AFTER MY SIGNATURE.PLIZ STOP TALKING ABOUT ME,I ALREADY TOLD YOU THAT I HAVE RESIGNED PLAYING FOR ZAMBIAN FOOTBALL AND I WIIL NOT CHANGE MY MIND.
IM ALWAYS UP TO DATE WITH LT BECAUSE I HAVE A LAPTOP ALWAYS WITH ME.
AS FOR THE APPOINTMENT OF LWANDAMINA,IT IS A GOOD DEVELOPMENT SUPPORT HIM.
Typical Zambian. Kalu Mufulira + Munaile Mufulira = Lwandamina Mfulira. In my opionion Kuamba is more senior and there is no Justifiable reason to remove him.
I think Faz has to be trasparent. Even Phiri should have been considered. what criteria was used in arriving at Lwandamina. This whole issue stinks!!!
Iam surprised that the new coach has not considered me as one of the defenders.people of zed pliz beg the coach so that i can fill the gap in the defence.i m the best man so far.
Tana shut up,you are no better than elijah and wawa chongo . you finished.
let lwandamina put nketan there in defence .he is very good. i watched him when he scored a penalty for zanaco.
Congrats to chicken George!! All we need to do is support the man than crying for the criteria used in appointing him as an assistant to RENARD.
Mbuzi #9.Kalu and Munaile were not put into office by people from Mufurila alone. The people that voted during the FAZ elections came from all the corners of the nine provinces. It’s people like you who bring tribal politics when there is no need.Nishi kashi mwebantu.Lets debate with facts and not emotions.
Wawa#5 G.Lwadamina is employed full time by Green Buffaloes if i was Lwadamina i would also take the job on a part time basis cos the National team post you can be fired any time.Believe me if this team does bad then the Frenchman and Lwadamina are gone.If that was the case then Chicken G can go back to his job.
Ba Zimandola, respond to my other blog on kalu.
Sibs, you have a point. The fact remains these are Mufulira wanderas. watch next in line is Kashimoto cominig on board matk my words!! Changes have to be made on merit!
It is a good choice. Whether he is from Mufurila or he is Kalu’s friend, Lwandamina has proved to be a coach with the technical know how of the beautiful game of football.
Credit must be given deservedly.
Nketan should be considered ba Zimandola mudala, just bcoz he scored a penalty for zanaco, does not mean we have forgotten the errors he made in the game against Cameroon.
#9 pantu muconcluda. it’s got nothing to do with Mufulira. if the skill comes from there why not use it. we know Tonga are good at farming.ha ha ha bembas at stealing and Ngoni etc…. so if you find more thieves in Kasama why not use them… ah ah ah….do not conclude or find faults in them. chill.
Big up Chicken Lwandamina.
Congrants chicken George and hope you can use your previous playing experience to impart some defensive tactics to improve our porous backline.
Are you guys (Mbesuma & Tana) really who you are or is it someone else pretending to be you (blooging here).
And Mpopo #18 the point of the matter is that we do not diversify in Zambia, Mbuzi is merely highlighting the fact that the hierachy is being formed by ex players from one club. we need to engage in diversity to flourish. don’t forget the motto one Zambia One nation, because Zambia is built on a diversity of different ethnic groups.
Lwandamina seems a young man in terms of coaches, he fully deserves his role in the national team. Take your time, keep your nose clean, learn your trade well, there is no rush to force all the responsibility on him at this stage.
He will be our head coach one day. To me that is important, that we have a good progression of coaches from club to country based on merit, because once you become national team coach there is nowhere higher to go. We need to make sure, when they get there chance they are fully equipped and confident to deal with modern international football. That will all be part of the progression of our game.
Congrats Mr Lwandamina. All the best.
You go “chicken G” and congrats. There is no better than him to take the job. He has kept GBFC in the top two for four seasons in a row and went one better than Phiri when he took the u-20 to the last 16 of the world cup. He deserves the opportunity on merit.
Chicken George but mwaume, I think there is no better coach to even take over inga ba Herve bafilwa
LT, PUT AN IMAGE OF LWANDAMINA. SOME OF US MAY NOT KNOW HIM. FOR GOD’S SAKE THIS IS AN INTERNET-WE NEED TO SEE IMAGES OF WHAT YOU ARE TALKING/WRITING ABOUT.
Congrates Lwandamina you are the best weather you are a friend to kalu or not, Either you come from mufurila with kalu or not the position still suites you, ba chicken help Renard together you can make it. All best to you and the chipolopolo boys

Ok people,I’m from Mufulira too,but i honestly dont think that Lwandamina is a good coach,i’ve always wondered how he became an instant hit at GBFC,he’s one of the reasons why MIGHTY is in division one,he was head coach at wanderers right after Asholes Melu died,he made a mess out of it,lets wait n see what he’ll do for zed, let’s give him a chance
congrets

i mean ba chiken. mwafumela pamatako?
lets not make changes when a person make a mistake for the first time.we always make same mistake, even with soccer players, every game you have new prayers.
mantain the team if we need progress.
Swazi 2 Togo 0. What a shocker! Swaziland tops the grp. We need to be at our best to win there as we havent won there for nearly 18 years. Swazis are bad travellers but they are tough at home. Goodluch Chipolopolo.
Late goal for Togo too little too late.

Mwelwa asking about the Zambian Mission in Mexico; I believe we have nothing there and that country is covered by our Mission in Brazil.
Congrats, George.
Just a question. Where did the name “Chicken” come from?
Thanks Buffalo for the information
