Zambia National Team Friday brief

Christopher Katongo of Brondby in Denmark has joined the Zambia national team in camp in Lusaka currently preparing for next weekends 2010 World/Africa Cup Group 11 Qualifier away to Swaziland.

Six foreign-based players joined camp on Thursday and were in training today , Friday as Faz’s new media rules of conduct began with the press kept at a distance from making impromptu press visits unless by appointment while in practice was in session.

Others in camp include goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene of Free State Stars of South Africa his club mate and defender Kampamba Chintu and midfielder Felix Katongo from French Ligue 1 side Stade Rennes.

Also in camp is Clifford Mulenga from Bidvets Wits of South Africa including Isaac Chansa of Helsingborg in Sweden.

Chansa is suspended for the game against Swaziland after his red-card handed to him by the Burkinabe referee Lassina Pare in a post-match fracas at the end of Zambia’s 1-0 away defeat to Group 11 leaders Togo in Accra, Ghana on May 31.

Meanwhile, all the home-based players have been released from camp to turn out for their respective clubs in league engagements this weekend.

They are all expected to return to camp in Lusaka on Sunday.

However, coach Herve Renard will have a late Friday afternoon training session with the foreign-based players only at Barclays sports complex.

  1. Lets go Boys! Lets be in it to win it……

i hope Mbesuma joins camp, the move back to Kaizer Chiefs will hopfuly bring him back to his young self. With the guidence of Renard in the national team Collins has the oppertunity to rise again… Renard has definitely shown interrest in him and motivated him by leaving the door open for him, the insetive is in place …we need him to be fit and resume duties as The African Hurricaine!

  2. #3, in a tavern somewhere in chingola, this boy doesn’t get it, he forgets this is his bread. i hope it won’t be too late.

  3. Ba Mbesuma nalimitemwa but your behaviour disppoints me. Where are you ? They give you this opportunity and you don’t want to utilise it !!!

Chipolopolo, we are always behind you boys. Go forward

  4. Togo 10 Swazi 0, so what’s for Zed?? nothing Man. Go home try 2014 maybe if things goes ways. Don’t be mad brothers.

  5. Mr.Dasani what do mean Togo 10 Swazi 0?has the game been played already? Thought it was 14:00 GMT.

  6. Shakes Mashaba the Swaziland National Team coach says Togo won’t find it easy tomorrow as the two sides square up in a World Cup/Africa Cup qualifier.Mashaba says it was just by luck that Togo beat Zambia last weekend. It’s like the man watched the Zed/Togo game. Any way we have to wait and see tomorrow whether Mr.Mashaba is right or it’s just cheap talk.

  7. Go zambia go! we still have a chance of qualifying despite losing togo. Togo will not have cricket scoreline when they take on swaziland. Zambia will turn the tables around.

  8. ·No.8, please learn to respect this blog. We don’t like seeing your insults here. It’s better your share them with your wife and your children. Twatendwa nobe …………..

  9. No.8 please, don’t use this blog to show how much you know how to insult. It’s better you share the insults with you wife and your children. You are out of order. Twatendwa nobe ………….

  10. Ardonis #17 Who thought Kenya would beat Guinea.Things look bad for Guinea having drawn 0-0 with Zimbabwe at home.

  11. Dasani your earlier postings(prediction) said Togo 10 Swaziland 0.But you don’t even know when Togo and Swaziland are playing.Shame

  12. #20 Sibs something like that man. Am focusing on EURO 2008 and the NBA FINALS, But i will take a look at African games.

  13. Yah iam watching the NBA Finals as well as Euro 2008.Though the NBA Games are coming too late or is it too early (3am).Dasani Togo game is tomorrow at around 15hrs Southern African time.

  14. Dasani, you should have just added ‘lol’. No amount of explanation will acquit you. SHAME ONCE MORE.

  15. #22 Thanks Man. Whom do you like to win the EURO 2008? I like Italy and Germany.

  16. come on xed we can do it,last year we lost our hope of going to the afcon but you deed us proud by beating Bafana Bafana by 3-1 we can do it to to in our return fixiture back here home guys fget about the latst week loss to togo let us fcus on the remaining 3 games Go ZAMBIA Gooooooooooo!

  17. What a shocker! Swaziland has just given us a life-line. Its now upt to Chipolopolo to redeam itself and win in Swaziland. If we do then we are nearly thru. I warned everyone before that not many teams have won in Swaziland. They are bad travellers but they are tough at home. We shall need to be at our best because we have not won in Swaziland in the past 15 years.

  18. #9 what rubbish prediction that was that Togo 10 Swazi 0! Eat humble pie now.

  19. its like luck is on our side this time around.we need 9 points to qualify, very much possible .Togo are bad travellers too just like zambia when there are in west africa

  20. This is a chance 4 chipolopolo buys to work extra hard and get 3 points from swaziland. We will be able to weigh our new coach properly now. All our players including the pros are in camp.

  21. #28 Don’t get too excited about Swazi beating Togo 2-1, it’s Swazi who beat Togo not Zambia. And be careful what you wish for. Zambia need to take care of their business that’s when you should start talking sh!t to Swazi. If you anyone can recall when everybody were making stupid prediction when Zed/Togo game, so all the Zambia Nation team need to do is not to get too excited like you #28 before they take Swazi. Beat Swazi then the party starts. Respect other teams, they also want to qualify too. So good lucky to the boys when they face Swazi.

  22. #32 Stanley i agree with you 100%, now Zambia need to work extra hard in all their up coming games. They need to take one game at the time. No treating Swazi as the underdog team. Zambia should be care when they play Swazi, a draw won’t gonna for us, we need to win all the games now.

  23. Swaziland 2-1 Togo

Swaziland produced one of an upset in the 2010 joint African & World Cup qualifiers after beating Togo 2-1 in Mbabane. The Swaziland win has given a boast to the Herve Renard coached Chipolopolo.

The Shakes Mashaba coached surprised the highly rated Emmanuel Adebayor led Togo by going 2-0 up in the second half after a goalless first half.

Togo got their consolation late in the game.

  24. Togo is not a team of Zambia s level. We are far much better than those chaps. The only problem with our players is their approach, they tend to over respect these teams with players in Europe and over underate other teams such ,,,,.Let them know that as of today the majority of african teams in terms of team output they are at par and the only difference might be individual skill but football is all about team work.

  25. haha who is sayin Swaziland has thrown you a life line…Baane..everyone is playin to qualify

Bola is played in 90 mins am sure we have already established that fact..

and like i always say with the zambia national soccer team we are too used to being spoon fed every thing..or Mathematical chances

i dont know why we jus cant go out there and hunt for our selves and win the F***n Game and go to the CUP as proud qualifiers not at ba second Best finisher..atase…!! might as well stay at home and watch the real teams battle it out at AFCON AND WOLRD CUP

  26. Dasani#24.I agree with you Italy,Germany are favourites i would like to include Portugal on the list.Though don’t rule out the Russians and Czech Rep.
#28 Disgusted Spectator i remember your words last week that very few have won in Swaziland indeed.

  27. lets not concentrate on the fact that very few have won in Swaziland and this is not the message that our players should hear.We are now beginning to over respect.Remember the Cosafa semifinal game when Angola came to break our unbeaten home record and that was the turning point of Angolan football

  28. I’m not sure who is good in the Euro’s, i don’t think i like any of the teams, i’m waiting to watch the first games and we’ll see if i can pick a winner. Maybe France.

Garnet and the Celtics in 5/6 games, they have to much structure for the Lakers and the Kobe factor is not enough on it’s own. How devastating it will be for Kobe after the amazing transition they made from the beginning of the season, tuff lose for Kobe.

As for Zed, i going to keep most of the commentary to myself. This all i care about.

  29. Look to Holland to cause an upset tomorrow against Italy. I have a feeling, hahaha.

  30. Ok ok guys let us wait and see what will happen in 90 mins. I still emphasis on hard work 4 our players in all the departments. we have seen that Swaziland is not an underdog. Let us prepare 4 them adequately. if We lose coach must resign just in swazild.

  31. #38 Sibs what are the chances for Zambia beating Swazi? I know and i can see alot of people in Zambia and all zambians around the globe are celebrating a victory before the game is played. #36 Choma1 i disagree with your comment that Togo is not on the same level with Zambia in terms of standard, if you have time take a look at the Fifa world Rankings and see where Togo/Zambia rank. African soccer has shifted in 15 years. Those african soccer giants like Algeria, Tunisia, Morocco, etc are gone, Angola, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Botswana are new faces representing Southern Africa now. Zambia still has game but they always chock when it comes to win a big one

  32. #43 dont use Fifa ranking.Even on ranking we have been better than you Togo ,its only last week those chaps over took us.African teams are at par.No more underdogs, ask Ivory coast

  33. #44 Choma1 that’s what i was telling you man that no team is an underdog any more. Since you were saying that Zambia will have an easy one next Sunday in Swaziland. I’m glad you understand my point and where i was coming from. I can see now everyone on this blog understands soccer and we all grew up around it.

  34. Dasani Fifa rankings are crap.South Africa is ranked higher than Zambia now. Some of the teams like Mali,Senegal who fared badly like Zed at Afcon 2008 are ranked higher than us.England failed to qualify for Euro 2008 but the ranked # 9 in the World.
Seen from afar #40,great game by the Pierce and the Celtics in Game 1.I see the finals going to the wire.

  35. #46 Sibs i agree the Fifa rankings is BS but i just wanted to make it clear with Choma1 who wrote that Togo is not on the same level as Zed in terms of soccer. We should all know every team is angry and they want to win so bad as us. But they won’t just sit back and hand Zambia a game on the silver plate, Zambia need to work hard for it rather than start making predictions

  36. Zambia will only do well if they have serious players and not overweight players. How could a professional footballer fail to control his weight.

  37. #38 Dasani, how can you misunderstand my point? I’m not celebrating but making a point that zed will have it tough in Swazi because they have not won there in over 15 years. Swazis are very good at home; even tough teams like cameroun, egypt, angola etc have not had it easy on the occasions thay have been there. The only problem the swazis have is that they are poor travellers. That is the point I was trying to make.

  38. #49 Disgusted spectator i got you man!! Yeah i did misunderstand you now we’re on the same page brother. Our go is to see Zambia perform good and beat the rest. I know our boys will do it and take care of business

  39. pliz guys back home show me “ichimwela cure”i love my chipolopolo guys but sometimes they behave as if they have not eaten, they are sick or comfused. That fighting spirit somestimes is not there.if you compare some games like the s.a one oh God it was superb.when we play swaziland, guys no BP

  40. Well done Swaziland but as a Zambian i dont think it is right for us to dwell on that whilst we have our own team that is still in the business.we need to inspire our team and be behind them whether in defat or glory and somehow we will find our footing and identnty. We are suffering identity crisis and that is why you would fine someone wearring another national team’s shirt in Lusaka. I even saw someone wearring bafana bafana shirt. We are Zambians no matter what we do and we need to be proud of that.
Mbesuma needs us zambians to support him and not to help him down but upwards. He needs us.He has already done a lot for the country and we need to recognise that.As arm chair critics know that

  41. #53 Gibby, i think the new coach is try his best to help Mbesuma but i think He is lacking support from his fellow players and Zambian coaching stuff. The good thing for Mbesuma is to report to camp today and he will be back on his feet, sometimes in life we fall down and we need someone to pick us up. And Gibby you mentioned that someone was walking in Zambia with Bafana T/Shirt, thats good he is representing his country in a foreign soil. We all wear our Nation Colours so i don’t see anything wrong doing that. If you have a Zambian T/Shirt, wear it on game day man.

  42. New Passports next month
The Issuance of new passports is expected to start next month.

Home Affairs Permanent Secretary, Susan Sikaneta said the government has already put into place necessary logistics such as equipment for the entire process which kick start’s in July.

She told ZNBC news that training and recruitment of staff who will mann the new office is expected to start this month end.

The Home Affairs Permanent Secretary noted that Zambia decided to join the international community by bringing in a new passport with sophisticated features that cannot be forged.

  43. Mbesuma is no doubt a good player, with the potential to be great. Injuries have hampered this young man’s game. when a player is injured they can’t train or involve themselves in serious physical exercise, so as a result they gain weight and it takes time and support to over come that. If you think mbesuma is fat then you haven’t seen Ronaldo (Brazilian) how big he has become.
Mbesuma is at the moment clubless and he’s trying to make sure that he knows where he will be playing this season, so you would understand his unsettledness. The coach could have just given him a break until he sorts everything out.
We need to support this young man.

  44. Dasani,
I agree with most of what you have said. But i need to correct you on the Bafana bafana shirt. The person who was wearing it was/is infact a zambian i have known for years. have lived on Safrica for years as well as Europe and i have a lot of friends asking me to get them shirts for England, Safrica etc yet they dont have the Zambian shirts. I am proud of wearing my Zambian shirt as well as my Power Dynamos shirt. However i dont disapprove of someone suporting a foreign club and i support Chelsea myself

  45. My comment goes to our Chipolopolo Soccer Team.Mid feild problem now that Chansa is out who is the right replacement? There has been talk about Stophira Sunzu the young man from Zanaco.I do not think the youg man can make it particularly after watching him i the Under 23 game against Swaziland where he failed to perform.I always ask myself a question as to have coaches ignored Jack Chileshe – Zanaco the young man with very high work rate in the mid field capable of demolishing opposition and making it easy for strikers to score.Secondly another position where we have a problem is at 9.I feel Rodger Kola has not yet matured to rely on him.Better coming in as substitute Maybe Judge Mkandawire

  46. mbesuma s an lazy fat idiot. i cant see him ever play football at a good level again.alcohol s his life n he has no brain. so let s forget about him and focus on our national team .

  47. I would like to share my sincere views about the Chipolopolo boys. Congrats for maing it to the world cup and hope that the entire nation will rally behind them. I was impressed by some moves in the last africa cup of nations. Plz Bonuses should not hinder the success story of our pride. The team needs to place national service before profit and marshall all the departments as wounded buffalos and unleash those bullets… :)>-
