Acting Supreme Court Judge, Timothy Kabalata has sentenced a 70 year old man and another 42 year man both of Lusaka's kuomboka township to death for aggravated robbery.
This was after 70 year old Simon Nyirenda and his accomplice John SImfukwe 42 were convicted for stealing from Josphine Mupeta's home a bruno rifle, a radio cassette and other personal goods valued at over K7 million while armed with an AK 47 rifle.
70-year old Nyirenda has however been acquitted of murder charges but convicted and sentenced to 20 years on another aggravated robbery charge he committed with another Kenneth Tembo when they stole from Ngoza Zulu household property on November 12, 2002.
Whist robbing Ngoza, they used violence in order to stop her from putting up resistance.
Judge Kabalata when acquitting Nyirenda for murder charges, noted that though Cliford Mambwe died of gun shot wounds there was insufficient evidence to connect him to the murder.
He however convicted the 70 year old man and his two accomplices on two counts of aggravated robbery despite his pleas of having 17 children and 11 other dependants.

Zambia does not carry out executions, this is just window dressing. If the President, like Chiluba too, doesn’t have the balls to sign an execution and still says he will never do so then let him repeal it! At least these people can be on life sentences and go out and do some work on farms etc… than being locked up in the gallows for the whole day waiting for the execution day that will never come.
so many lusaka cops have been short by criminals very young boys like the late sgt chintankwa and late const percy but these criminals when arrested they are only given sometimes lessears of jail why? please do something ise ba kapokolatizasila kufa please ni cani?kudala tinali ku yopa mfwiti but nowadays the only wizards we have are the Nyirendas and his counter parts.

And talking of which why have a death penalty that will never be applied, LPM has stated categorically in hos 10 years as president no one will be executed, we can repeal it like 7 suggested and re-repeal it when we have a president with enough guts.

Cut off his testacles maybe that will save as a good deterrant.
A thief with a gun always has the intetion to kill the would be victim in case of resistance.so government has a chance to prevent some of this crimes.Once they are brought to the courts,give them the worst possible punishiment at your disposal.
