ZADECO to hold National convention

Share

The opposition Zambia Development Conference (ZADECO) is expected to hold a national Convention to elect a candidate to contest the 2011 presidency.

And ZADECO has re-launched its campaign for party structures at provincial and district levels in readiness to prepare the party for 2011 tripartite elections.

ZADECO National Chairman Langtone Sichone who disclosed the development to ZANIS in Lusaka today said the convention will be held next year in April .

Mr. Sichone says the decision to field a presidential candidate and re-building of the party was arrived at by the party’s National Management Committee (NMC) held over the weekend in Lusaka.

He explained that the party in the 2006 elections did not field a presidential candidate due to some ‘internal affairs.

Mr. Sichone, who is also Zambia Centre for Inter-party Dialogue (ZCID) Spokesperson further said the party, being the oldest opposition political party is experienced to drive the nation forward once given an opportunity or voted into Office.

He said the party is inspired by the vision of its late leader Dean Mungomba whose wish was to let Zambia govern herself socially, culturally and politically.

Meanwhile, ZADECO has commended Southern Africa Development Community ( SADC)Chairman President Levy Mwanawasa for proposing the postponement of Zimbabwe presidential runoff scheduled for June 27 elections .

ZADECO National Chairman Langtone Sichone says the observation by Dr. Mwanawasa yesterday to call for the postponement of the runoff are timely and in the interest of both Zimbabwe and the SADC region.

Mr. Sichone says Zambia being an icon of true democracy cannot sit idle and watch the turbulent crisis that have rocked the neighboring Zimbabwe.

Mr. Sichone was speaking in an interview with ZANIS in Lusaka today.

Mr. Sichone, who is also Zambia Centre for Inter-party Dialogue (ZCID) Spokesperson reminded President Robert Mugabe that he is allegedly setting a bad precedent in the African politics.

Zimbabwe goes to polls on June 27 but the country is characterized by widespread political viole

  1. I thougth UNIP is the oldestt opposition Party currently, Mr. langton Sichone correct Me if am wrong!!! How many party members do you have apart from family members?

  2. Where is this cheap talk of Zambia being an “icon of true democracy” in the region coming from? Or are people making a misguided comparison with Zimbabwe. The only time Zambia held free and fair elections was in 1964 and 1991. Infact there was no Zambia in 1964 and so effectively, we’ve had free and fair elections only once. We’re still miles from being close to democracy.

  3. Tonga Bull you are wrong. Zambia has had democratic elections more than the times you state. Maybe for a democratic election is only when you win. That is not the definition ofa democratic election. Long live Zambia ! God bless Zambia !

  4. I agree with you #1. UNIP is not only the oldest opposition Party but it is also the oldest Political Party in Zambia. I don’t know where Mr. Sichone derives his facts from.

  5. ZADECO – Zambia Democractic CongresS Party Headed by our popular Pastor Danny Pule (Currently under controvesy) phew, pa zed paliba comedy besides Zambia One. Pule together with his Party needs Prayers otherwise this is just a sham!!!!!

  8. Correction, you cannot be addicted to nyele. It’s like saying you’re addicted to hunger or thirst …

Get back to the subject, anyway.

  9. So Pule is behind Zadeco! What about his party PUDD-Pule unlimited divorcee and disappointer of his creator. Is it alive or its waiting for Sir King FTJ to resustate the already dead party.

  10. Zadeco must be deregistered, how can a man who has failed to govern his house manage the state.Dan pule leka kusobela naka nobe ka Sichone.

  11. The credible candidate after Levy is Honor. Given Lubinda, he is an experience and well informed member of parliament..the real champion power within PF.
For PF to show that they are above regional politics, they need to rally Mr Lubinda,,,he will win with big margain against the MMD machine…I think it is time for a change, Zambaia can not risky another third term of MMD…They have done their best, finished their manifesto..Come 2011, we need Change in the state house, we can’t get stuck with one party..thats taking us back to UNIP era!!

  12. Am supprised to hear about ZADECO this time.I thought ZADECO was long over due, since the legend Mu’ngomba died. Dan pule viagra too much.

  13. uku e kutumpa ZADECO went with Dean how can some guy from no where come and say it exists which members are there, street kids or family members? stop dreaming.

  14. Am happy to hear ZADECO is still on, although it is not as active as it was, i have a bigger dream for it…and hope the current guys running the party keep trying. For one day the late legends dream will come true…

  15. SICHONE STOP WASTING PEOPLE’S TIME AND SPLITTING THE PRECIOUS VOTES AS THIS JUST GIVES WAY TO THE MMD TO CARRY THE DAY. HOW MUCH HAS RB GIVEN YOU TO BRING THIS CONFUSION IN THE MINDS OF THE POLITICALLY WEAK? COME ON, SICHONE CAN’T YOU SEE THE WRITTING ON THE WALL? ZAMBIANS ARE NOT LOOKING FOR THE KIND OF LEADERSHIP YOU ARE OFFERING, WAKE MAN!
