Govt asks SA to Explain Mbeki’s Remarks on Levy

Share

The Zambian government has requested for an explanation from the government of the Republic of South Africa on the statement attributed to President Thabo Mbeki that President Mwanawasa had passed away.

Foreign Affairs minister Kabinga Pande confirmed this in a statement to ZANIS in Lusaka this evening.

President Mbeki is reported to have asked people to observe a minute of silence when was speaking at the National Memorial Tribute for victims of violence against foreign nationals and South Africans held at Tshwane City Hall in South Africa yesterday.

And on President Levy Mwanawasa’s latest update, Vice President, Rupiah Banda said that President Mwanawasa has continued to receive treatment for hypertension at the Percy Military Hospital in Paris, France. He said Dr. Mwanawasa remains in a stable condition.

This is according to a statement posted on the Statehouse Web site.

Mr. Banda said Dr. Mwanawasa had the usual review by specialist doctors today Friday.

He said Dr. Mwanawasa’s next review is due on Monday.

The Vice President said the First Lady, Maureen Mwanawasa and family members continue to be at the President’s bed side.

And Chief Government Spokesperson, Mike Mulongoti has urged people wishing to travel to Paris – France to visit the President not to do so.

Mr. Mulongoti said this is because Dr. Mwanawasa is admitted to Percy Military Hospital which is highly restricted to visitors.

He said this is why people are being advised against undertaking such a visit.

Mr. Mulongoti was speaking this afternoon with ZNBC news.

  1. Stop this witch hunting and just concentrate on I informing the nation about the Pres progress.Yes there has been a confusion but whose report is valid?
I sense that someone is trying to capitalise on who leaked the info before the Country itself but who cares. What if it is the French Offials themselves?

  2. The main culprit is the so-called Diplomat from the Zambian Embassy in SA.Mbeki did nothing wrong to observe a minute of silence for HE as he rightly believed the death had occurred.
    Anyway,Long Live LPM.

  3. The Zed gvt is a piece of sh!t, leave SA gvt alone and tell your country whats going on with your dead leader. He is dead wether you like it or not, just get on the point and put your stupid stories right. Developed nations know how to deal with important issues than you third world nations. learn from others or they will be major problems like the army taking over your run down nation. Govt has been running away from the truth. I see Zambia going to war amongest themselves if things are not taken care of soon. Tell the nation whats real and the condition of the dead president instead of other foreign media to leak it for you. Leave Mbeki and his people alone.

  4. i hope no one is trying to hide some information. its really a confusion. big one. how come bbc or other “linked” sources hasn’t come out to apologize for the info??? well, we still have to hope for the best.

  5. I find absolutely nothing wrong with President Mbeki’s public hint on the hoax report. I think we could correct that mistake through silent channels of Diplomacy. We cannot afford to engage in unnecessary overhead wars of words out of a hoax report that hit every air wave when our head of state is in a troubling condition.

  6. yes they ought to ask him together with his people so that next time met with a similar situation they will think twice and verify rumors,we are dealing with the head of state here we shouldnt joke around.

  7. mbeki was somehow wrong too. coz b4 saying paying such “tribute”, u need to have confirmation from the state involved. and not depending on reporters. he knows very well that its not everything reported thats real. well lets wait and see, if something happened, it wont be hidden forever. or maybe they want to put certain things “succession procedures” in place. but lets still hope for the best.

  8. It is a dark hour for Zambia and please let us be very cautious how we approach the all issue, many were caught an aware of the ever twisting info….but for the love of our country let us hold fast and soon this phase will surely come to an end, been it good or bad it’s reality. Just be mindfull of the launguage we use on this infomative blog or it will come back and haunt us. Has much as we respect the opinion’s of others it’s equally important that we all unite and hope for the best, so Zambia can be on course again to the road map of progress. Peace and love to Zambia.

  9. its not just Mbeki who thought mwanawasa had passed away. many credible international media had similar reports. one major cable news channel here in the states had a similar report. IS the govrnment going to ask every single one of them for an apology: not in the slightest! so hush-hush about South Africa. Dont diverge from the issue of mwanawasa’s condition.

  10. # 1 you are wise .You actually deserve the portifolio of Minister of Foreign affairs that Kabinga Pande is wrongly holding on today.Kabinga, whom do you what to impress you childish fellow?
That is just another form and manifestation of bootlicking.
There is no need to cry over spilt milk we chipubawe.
Mbeki never did it intentionary, infact he wanted to pay respect to the purpoted dead Zambian leader according to what he was informed. That means he was with us.Do not sensetionalise levy’s sicknes and in the process carelessly and ignorantly strain our international relationship.
This is not the time for such petty activities, but for directing all efforts and prayers 4 levy’s recovery.

  11. It is very important that the truth be explictly spelt out regarding the president’s condition. If not done, there will certainly be rumours poping up everywhere. We now live in a technologically advanced world where information can be made available instantaneously. What the government should do is daily provide the nation with video footage of the president’s ward so that people can see for themselves what is happening remotely. If indeed the president is able to open eyes, or utter words, people will be able to see that and make judgement for themselves.

  12. I see a situation similar to Israel when Sharon suffered a stroke.A new leader was appointed immediately and what has happened to Sharon we don’t know. These govt officials should have held an emergency meeting but when you think of Rupiah or Mulongoti they are not capable making such a decision lest someone accuses them of hastening the situation. One thing they should know is that the state of the nation is at stake if no leader, however temporary, is appointed. It does not mean that the Iraelites were malicious in deciding the way forward.Their nation is constantly under attack and it needs a strong leader to survive. We have Mugabe also threatening his neighbours so what next?

  13. What the hell is wrong with these shallow minded caretakers so-ministers? What do you want the Mbeki to do… hasn’t he apologized enough?? The guy is humble and good caring to such extent that he could take a moment of silent to honor his friend, DEAD or ALIVE… Instead of praising him you are insulting him. Kabinga, Mpombo and your villager Mulongoti… “muli nkulungwe”

  14. People wanting to travel to France to see the president should do so however, they must be privileged to meet with the first lady or other family members since admission to the hospital is very restricted. It is un-Zambian to deny well wishers a privilege of visiting someone who is ill. What we should understand is that not all of us have the means of meeting the expense of travelling to France. Those who can do it should do so. If the president is awake and happens to see new faces of Zambians, that may boost his morale and help the healing process. We always do this at UTH and other hospitals in the country.

  15. It is so sickening the kind of leaders we have. Mbeki did not get it from the press. It was the SADC secretariate that gave him the information so should we crucify him for doing the honorable???? Ney my beloved, our government should concentrate on informing the nation on LPM’s condition not to engage in unnecssary battles with our sympathetic neighbours Let us not make enemies in this situaton. Some of these careless ministers will be fired if LPM recovers properly.

  16. Love coming from people you don’t normally associate with can do wonders especially when it comes to illness.

  17. I for one would not blame the minister for seeking clarification from Mbiki. Cause if Mbeki is a credible president which i assume he is must have verified such facts before anouncing them. He definetly can lead us to whoever created the lies.

  18. Where on earth do these so called ministers spring from?It just shows how far behind we are in modern politics.Next they will start legal proceedings of some kind using tax payers money.People pay tax so that they get a better service from these govt ministers and what can one make out of this? All because Mbeki paid respect or did he insult him?
Can you imagine what would happen if Mugabe in his madness decide to launch a missile on Zambia now?It can only take a few hours before everyone starts speaking Shona.
At the moment we have far too many ignorant leaders calling the shots and nothing of substance yet.Leaders it is in times of crisis like this that you prove yourselves able.

  19. We r praying for our president 2 get well soon but when u look at da way things r twistin, one can knw that something is wrong.lets not talk about Mbeki or Mugabe.we need to know how seriously ill Lpm is.im startin 2 have doubts about him being alive!

  20. If our Minister of Health, Dr. Hebert Chituwo, is with the president in France, he must issue a press statement to the journalists who are monitoring the situation. The man is a qualified surgeon and I am confident he would not be biased on this matter. Yes, I agree with the sentiments given so far on whether we should ask for explanation from the South African government. It is a waste of time, and no Zambian with proper brains and education should consider it. If Mr. Mbeki had nor regard or Love for Mr. Manawasa, there’s no way he could have done what he did. Switch ON Zambian leaders don’t be a disgrace to us. One Zambia One Nation.

  21. The blunder is in our MoF publicizing the communique made to Pretoria. That approach does not serve Diplomacy. There is a lot of confusion and mistrust in the region and we cannot afford to fuel it further.By all dimension, a hostile bilateral relationship in the region would just hurt us more than we want to believe the opposite. Our Growth and sustainable peace opportunities more impinges on strong ties of co-existence a culture we have a history of perfecting. The way forward is dialogue, dialogue, dialogue and repel the machination of divide and rule.Ours is an interdependence model.

  22. YOU PEOPLE STOP GOING ROUND AND ROUND, MWANAWASA, IS NOW A VEGETABLE, A CABBAGE TO BE PRECISE.THESE FELLOWS IN GOVERNMENT ARE PUTTING EVERY THING IN ORDER BEFORE THY ANNOUNCE TO YOU.THEY HAVE CALLED BBC AND ALL MAJOR MIDIA OUTLETS INCLUDING THE POST, THEY HAVE ASKED FOR SOME TIMEF ROM THEM . ONCE EVERYTHING IS IN ORDER THEY ARE GOING TO GIVE THE ANNOUNCEMENT.

MY LEVY SOUL REST IN PEACE, LETS ALL REMEMBER MAUREEN AND FAMILY IN OUR PRAYERS ON THIERE BIG LOSS. LET ALL ZAMBIA UNIT.ONE ZAMBIA ONE NATION.AMEN

  23. Hola # 12,

You are registering a twisted tongue here my man. Mugabe and his Zimbabwe haven’t and are no threat to regional or international peace but internal equity. The regional threat is that “half cast” Botswanan called Khama a General without troops now provoking Zimbabwe with his reckless moves of amassing security Guards along the Zim border.Tangibly you better know that Botswana is no closer to our regional balance of power yet he is blundering out of miscalculated instinctual ego.

  24. -who knowns maybe Mwanawasa is no more. Zambians open your eyes. Third stoke few will make it. He is not a God but a human being. maybe Mbeki is right. wait and see.

  25. It is unwise for our government to be antagonizing our neighbours, especially ones like South Africa and Zimbabwe upon whom we depend for our imports and exports. This can be sorted out diplomatically as Paparazzi points out above. It appear to me that relationships between our government and the Mbeki administration have broken down. Mbeki does not have a high opinion of Levy at all. Mugabe also has only contempt for Levy.

  26. Please can mulongoti tell us the truth about LPM’s fate. Why denying pipo to travel and see it 4themself if the man is dead or not. Let the pipo travel they will introduce themselves at the gate that they want to see PLM and they are from Zambia.

  27. #18 Mugabe would not launch an attack on us. He is an experienced strategist. That would only give the British and the American the excuse to ‘nuke’ Zimbabwe. He remembers how Saddam Husein miscalculated. Mugabe is way to intelligent. If anyone is miscalculating, it is the infants in charge of Botswana.

  28. am still praying for our president, ihope LPM is still alive. god help our mother zambia. i know thieves like chiluba nd company would be happy to see him dead

  29. #27 I am sure anyone living in France is free to make their way to this place but they will be refused entry by the military authorities. They are probably free to leave flowers and cards at the gate.

  30. This sad news did not originate from South Africa. All the news came from Zambia. I, with some other people here in Atlanta Georgia, got the ‘news’ on Wednesday around 3:00pm (US) Eastern time from a high ranking Zambian Police Commissioner – at Ministry of Home Affairs. This Police Commissioner called his relative here to ‘break’ the news. If there is any investigation to be done, start right there in Zambia – Home Affairs. Mbeki received the news. The only sad part is that he proceeded to rushed, like most of us did, to make the news public without verifying with Zambian Government Officials.

  31. What the Zed govt is not saying is whether the President is on life support machinations or not. This piece of information is so critical to help us prepare as a country. I know nearly all presidential nominees are very unsettled by this sudden development but we can come out strong as a country if we can face the situation with a bit of maturity. The Post the only independent paper in ZED needs to send its reporters to france and give us a valid account.

  32. #27 you have caused my lungs to ache, the bit where pipo go to introduce themseles at the gate and say they are from Zambia is hilarious ma bro.

  33. Yangu, you are right and so are several other bloggers on the Mbeki issue. Zambians, we all look for scapegoats when the unexpected happens. Mbeki was well meaning in his approach, honestly I also rushed to my CEO when I saw the news on BBC!! Imagine that?? Our PR team was in the process of acquiring space in the papers for messages of condolences. Need I say more? What is Kabinga family tree saying when he’s counter part Mulongoti clearly said the Zambian govt. has accepted Mbeki’s apology?? We have strained relations with most african countries and I would hate to see a futile witch hunt launched against Mbeki. Please lets stay focussed. We dont need another Mulongoti Commission of Inquiry

  34. off topic: WARNING

    MY FELLOW BLOGGER’S
If yu get an email along side of Osama bin laden captured or hanged dont Open the attachement. It a virus that opens an olympic torch which burns the whole hard disk C OF YOUR computer, This is the worst virus reported by CNN, It has been classfied by microsoft as the most distructive virus ever. The virus was dicoverd by McAfee yesterday, and their is no repair yet for this kind of virus. The virus simly distroy the ZERO SECTOR OF THE HARD DISC, where the vital imformation is kept.

  35. No need for Mbeki to explain his actions.Mbeki said it was the secretary of SADC who broke the news to him that Levy was no more.lt was no small person or something he heard on radio but the Secretary General of SADC.Thats speaks volumes guys. And its not just Mbeki even the Ugandan parliament held a moment of silence. All these guys are no Mugs at all.Wake up guys!

  36. 18 aka Hola – you have a point there… how do we start a personal crusade with a madman who controls part of our trading routes? Mugabe is capable of anything. Lets just stay out of other sovereign countries and fix this mess at home. Pande, since when did you become spokes person?

  37. Ya bu mumbwe bwafuma nomba. Ya abantu aba balatuletelela. Isn’t there any body left to advise these people on how to handle such highly sensitive international issues? Awe kwafita nomba. Pliz Mbeki’s mistake was in good faith. You’re now quizing him for it, and making it public. Big mistake!

There’s no such a virus that can destroy the hard drive. According to experts, that e-mail is just spam. So just ignore such mails. They mean nothing.

  39. look at this coded lingo on Zambia online

  40. If Govt had kept everyone informed, including our Embassies & High Commissions, & if these reresentatives made themselves approachable to their host nations, am sure the South Africans would have found it very easy to verify with them first, it is just a sign of how they function out there, these are the fruits of staffing these stations with relatives & friends rather fully fledged diplomats!

  41. Optimism often mask a false hope which is the presence of an optimistic outlook that healing will take place in spite of a bleak medical prognosis and the advanced devasting injury. Physicians may be convinced that further medical intervation would not be medically beneficial, but relatives and friends may be convinced that further treatment is required to bring about what they call “a miraculous turnaround”.

  42. Well, if the president is alive i pray that he gets well soon enough, my advice to him is that when he recovers from this stroke he should step down for his own sake and the nation’s. This way he can be head of state while we hold fresh elections rather than he experiences another attack with the remaining part of his term which might plunge this nation into caos if he died as reigning president!

  43. The minister should have waited for LPM to settle back in Zambia and then probably find out how wrong information leaked to Mr Mbeki. Well falsehood regarding the death of a commander in chief or head of state is a serious matter, I don’t care how you feek about it. The request for information is commendable but the timing is WRONG. It smurks of vindictiveness. The SA govt has mentioned that Mbeki was informed by the secretary of SADC. Mr Mbeki also phoned Mr Mbula, Z-High Commissioner in pta, that he was misinformed. Did the Foreign minister speak with Mr Mbula first? It seems he doesn’t care. What is the high commissioner for? Didn’t he explain what Mbeki said? Isn’t that enough? what?

  44. The vindictive minister of foreign affairs, listen up: If I were Mbeki, I would choose “silent diplomacy”. If you’ve never heard of that term, welcome! Mr Mbeki will give you some! How many times did LPM request to speak to Mbeki and he ignored him? Many times! Welcome to the world of South Africa! PERIOD.

  45. We may not all understand how government operates so the best thing is to watch. It is very clear that the Veep and his government cocked up by not clarifying the situation yesterday when the news first surfaced on major broadcasting channels, they are also guilty and show total incompentence by not giving regular updates.
The foreign affairs Minister is right to ask clarification from naive Mbeki as we want to know who exactly told Mbeki and the SADC Sec General that Levy had died.It is not the duty of the government spokesperson to write to Mbeki but the Foreign Minister as this is a diplomatic issue affectting intrnational relations!

  46. LPM is our head of state and as such pronouncements of his death should be done carefully. One needs to wait for the govt to announce before making any comments.
The death of Head of stae is not a simple issue. It can turn the nation into a war zone within hours! Its quite a sensitive issue. Therefore there is no excuse for Mbeki to be announcing the death of our beloved LPM without following protocol.Even if LPM had died he should have waited for the Zambian govt to announce his death rather than him acting as our govt spokesman.
The govt stance on this issue is spot on as Mbeki has proved to be a failure even in SA! He has shown lack of professionalism.

  47. i hope no one is trying to hide some information. its really a confusion. big one. how come bbc or other “linked” sources hasn’t come out to apologize for the info??? well, we still have to hope for the best.

  48. mbeki was somehow wrong too. coz b4 saying paying such “tribute”, u need to have confirmation from the state involved. and not depending on reporters. he knows very well that its not everything reported thats real. well lets wait and see, if something happened, it wont be hidden forever. or maybe they want to put certain things “succession procedures” in place. but lets still hope for the best.

  49. Lets press Mbeki a bit just for fun, after all hes been hiding information about Bob from our sweet LPM…. go Zed go

  50. LPM shud not listen to his power hungry wife who forces him to continue. Its time he stepped down….long live the president

  51. guys Mbeki knows something.Lets face facts being brain dead is the same as being no more.Mulongoti and co are buying time. What ever u do jus dont vote for Sata.

  52. #59 ba zambeef, LPM is alive and thats enough reason to have all the hope for his life. In our tradition there’s no room for speculation about someones death. The Zambian authorities are right and deserve support from every patriotic Zambian

  53. I hope LPM is well as a person, a father and a fellow Zambian. In terms of looking ahead, it looks like Sata will just walk into state house this time around( should we have new elections within 90 days because he is the most popular among all the potential Presidents of Zambia. I think it would be good if he become the President because it could mean he would most likely only serve until 2011 when we have the next normal elections because of health and age reasons. In this time of high copper prices, we need a nationalist like leader to develop the nation and build on what LPM had started. LPM has done his part but we must move on.

  54. #60 following tradition is a good thing but facts are facts LPM has not spoken a word ever since he was flown to France,he is brain dead, trust me this news is from very close and reliable sources.I love LPM he has served Zambians well including myself. But even tradition cant change facts, time will tell and you will see all this will come to surface.

  55. I agree Mpande and govt should be careful in dealing with the reported Mbeki issue. Did Mpande ever go for some ‘Diplomancy’ course, other than the PR he did at BOZ?? This is not time for fault finding. Its not only Mbeki, even Museveni and his Speaker did it. Malawi also aired the same story. Please Veep be in control and continue updating us on the condition of LPM. Stop your ministers from issuing careless statements, especially in the press. Its international relations at stake. Get well soon HE.

  56. 58# Zambeef just go and sale your rotten meat. We are all concerned about our President’s health and well- being. That why our thoughts and prayers are with Mr Mwanawasa and his family at this difficult and testing time. Let us remain united and defend our shared values and principles that have made us to be friendly nation regardless.I was trying to find out from my friend in France about this news but it seems tight lipped as of now and the media is not allowed to report or ask Docs looking after our president. My other question is out o curiosity seek what happens if worse go to worst in terms of who will take over ? The vice president was not elected by the pipo and is not the MP? What

  57. #61 i agree with you Sata will be the next pres.and boy are we in trouble coz the chap is corrupt as hell, uneducated arrogant b*sta*d.he is a con and has close links with Chiluba.God help us

  58. cont: does the constitution states regarding the situation we have / may find ourselves?
Lastly I’m not wishing any shortcoming it is just to learn my fellow contributors. God bless Zambia

  59. Zambeef, is Sata corrupt? and if so why is not in the dock? He may not be a graduate but an arctitecture in implementing plans.
His experience speaks volumes. All we need is to pray for our president.

  60. #65 u must be a vegeterian.well the fact is that LPM is brain dead and that Mulongoti and co are just buying time for reasons best known to themselves.LPM has long wanted to step down its that Maureen who forced him to continue.she has blood on her hands.like Adam and Eve,Levy listened to Maureen.Lets just make sure that Sata is not voted into power.

  61. #68 u must be one of Sata’s many sons.dont u remember the issue of the lost passport in England???the thuosand of us dollars he failed to explain the source and the south african govt confiscated from him???Pafwenamwine Sata even the name sounds so real hope you are not a chain smoker as well.

  62. We can’t afford to vote for Sata at this time. He is a mysterious man and he is unwell too, we don’t want this situation we are in to happen again. Lets try HH or other good leaders. Sata back peddles on issues of national importance such as mining tax and constitution review, he changes direction like a wind. And he can blow away all the good things LPM has done.

  63. #69 ba zambeef. Be a patriotic zambian, i agree with you about not voting for sata but avoid unwarranted attacks of the first lady.lets avoid finger pointing and tribalism. lets build our nation and not destroy it

  64. #71 i totally agree with you but i suspect HH as being a tribalist.I dont like the UPND becoz of this to be honest i dont know who can take over.LPM was a great leader.it is so hard to replace greatness with greatness.God bless Zambia.

  65. Enough is enough, i have been watch this president issue for the past week. Now i can speak up since i read all your positive and negative contributions. Nobody knows the truth, except the President’s wife not even his children can know if he’s alive or he’s on life support. To be honest, i don’t know anything in the medical field so i can not speculate or air out my medical suggestions towards his health. I know our gvt hasn’t come out to inform the people with the right information. All we can do is to pray to the Mwanawasa family and our people in Zambia. We will overcome all the negatives, just stay positive, be ready and be positive for the outcome. Zambia will be strong forever.

  66. #72 nothing personal againest the first lady but for us who know the Mwanawasa family from their olympia days and have grown up with their children.Maureen has always been a pushy and selfish wife. Why do you think he never looked after his own mother and she was burnt to death on that bus???her relatives have benefitted from his presidency.i blame her for the old mans death and deep down her she knows she is to blame.
Be warned she still has ambitions of being the president herself.

  67. Zambeef, I’m not Sata’s son and I will never be in million years. The fact is that you are too verdictive in your approach towards Sata, HH and Mrs Mwanawasa. Is not the time you put up something that will touch the hearts and minds of pipo who are so overtaken by the current state of our president and the country as whole. You are a pessimist.Maybe in your nutshell you think there is someone who can do better than Sata then bring him on and see the loser. The issue with England passport can be summarised in this way, any one with an endorsement of thrown out from any country can’t enter USA and in Zambia there is no costitution that restrict political parties to declare their source of funds

  68. I think as common citizens we should not in any ways capitalize on personal relationship between LPM,Uncle Robert and Mbeki.Leaders come ,leaders go but international relations remain.
Lets pray for our president’s recovery and wish or hope his personal doc put it right to him about the risk of combing his duties with his health status as at now. Also further medical check-ups and the like be done before performing all those stressful duties.
About Zim i think we are too much in the era of sending petty comments. We are just looking at Uncle Robert and Uncle T.How about who brings in sanctions? Are those meant for Mugabe and Tsivangirai or to punish innocent Zimbabweans?Wake up…Let’s balance

  69. cont’
–up issues. What have local citizens done to deserve such sufferings?
Words are being exchanged between the West and Uncle Robert and not the commoners with the West.Who is suffering now?
    Uncle Robert?Tsivangirai?Zimbabweans?
Who to be sanctioned?Civilians? Why?Are we really there to help or punish civilians?Let’s look at both sides of the coin an find a lasting solution. One World one LOVE..All Animals should be equal and no one should mock another, that is what we call peace on earth.

  70. Contd:Those who support oppsition parties financially may have difficuly times with the ruling party. Zambeef has anyone come forward to report King Cobra that he has been involved in corrupt acts? The ans is NO.Zambeef,if Sata was in any way involved in corrupt acts when in Govt do you think Mr Mwanawasa would have wasted any second not to arrest Sata with that hatred they had for each other previously. The ans gain is a big NO. Zambeef stop speculation and exaggerating stories. Maybe it is only you with the silver bullet to nail King Cobra.
We need facts on this blog. Cheap stuff is long gone.

  71. Zambeef mwaice uicindike ukasokoka ameno with yo careless and unfounded statements. Uleyangala kuli ba mwine? leave sata alone and just concentrate on praying for Levy! Nkakuponona!

  72. we need to pressure this govt to tell us the trueth and show invidence that our presido is alive. we give them upto monday to do this. shaka zulu had to showup when evryone in de kral thot waz dead. let us see lpm even in icu. otherwise we need to prepare for elections sooner. we love lpm but if God haz taken him, there is nothing wi can do but carryon with all goodthings he did.

  73. #3 (Paparazzi), watch your language! You don’t know Zambia well. If you are wishing war breaks out here, then you terribly mistaken. We are not like you.

  74. #36, where on earth has a virus burnt the hard disk? Anyway, let me go straight to the point. That email message is hoax! Verify with symantec website or google it. I have received that email before. Its just one of those internet pranks.

  75. #83. Indeed very difficult to comprehend. It must have a very high electricity voltage/wattage! Electricity in cyber space….we are living in interesting times! Or is it end times?

  76. Brain dead and waiting for the heart to stop beating is alreay dead. You cant keep a person who is already dead alive, let every zambian know the enevitable and get over it for the elections.SATA should be presido for he is a man of action and lets see what he is made of.RHSIP LPM.

  77. Our presido is not a military personnel, why is has been put in this an unreachable “dungeon” by public?

  78. Zedian, do you realise that you are also human ? May be you are made out of wood. That man Sata is another moving coffin, so what are you talking about ? We have very capable young men around not that trash so called Sata. You will not be accorded that chance boy because the power is with us the electorate. MPULUNGU

  79. NOW,OUR MINISTERS ARE OUT OF THEIR MIND AND THIS IS A SIGN THAT THERE IS NO ONE IN CHARGE BACK THERE IN ZED.HOW DO YOU WANT TO TAKE THE MIGHTY OF RSA?LADIES AND GENTLEMEN,PLEASE ASSIST THOSE TEARY MINISTERS AND VEEP NOT TO STIR THE HONET’S NEST.ALREADY MUGABE HAS ISSUED A NASTY WARNING AGAINST NEIGHBOURS TRYING TO INVADE ZIM,AND WE AND BOTSWANA ARE CULPRITS.WHY SHOULD THABO BE QUESTIONED,HE CATEGORICALLY SAID HE WAS INFORMED BY THE SADC SG. QUIT BEING PETTY KABINGA AND HELP GOVERN ZAMBIA IN THIS TIME OF CRISIS,WHERE IS RB KANSHI?

  80. When LPM had that first attack of stroke,KK advised that the president steps down and what followed where a tirade of unprintables from George Chulumanda,VJ,Tentamashimba.Even Levy’s personal Docs were marshalled and paraded before TV cameras to certify a stroke prone person fit ti continue such a hectic schedule. And today we are looking for answers, even accusing others for witchcraft,my foot. Those close to LPM were not being helpful to this poor soul, and they blame rests squarely on their shoulders, his blood will be on their heads.Maureen is culprit No.1,i have no pity for her but my heart goes out to Zebbige who now is on life-supporting machines.

  81. I did’nt know State House has it’s own website. Following the Post Newspaper’s Headline news, I wanted to collaborate their quoted top government official. Here is what I got:
UPDATE REPORT ON THE CONDITION OF HIS EXCELLENCY THE PRESIDENT, DR LEVY P MWANAWASA, SC
    Friday, 04 July 2008
    MEDIA STATEMENT

Following yesterday’s (3 July, 2008) update report, the situation for today, 4 July, 2008, is as follows:

His Excellency the President of the Republic of Zambia, Dr Levy P Mwanawasa, SC, remains in a stable condition. He continues to receive treatment for hypertension at the Percy Military Hospital in Paris, France.

  82. This morning His Excellency had the usual review by specialist doctors. His next review is due on Monday 7 July, 2008.

The First Lady, Mrs Maureen Mwanawasa, and family members continue to be at the President’s bed side.

ISSUED BY: HONOURABLE RUPIAH BANDA, MP
VICE-PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF ZAMBIA

    DATED: 04 JULY 2008

    wwwdotstatehousedotgovdotzm

  83. Am very disappointed with the whole lot of Zambians on this website. Do you think and feel there is press freedom? Why then are you using fake names even when you are saying the truth? If you are sincere Zambians concerned with the current state of affairs facing the nation could you honestly be courageous and tell the nation how you re feeling about the status Quo by giving real names. Who are you scared of? Plse No funny names you horrible cowards!!!! What the hell is paparazi et al? Plse get real and be men, son of the soil you D*%$H*&^. Abash Cowards!!!!

  84. God knows what has happened to Zambia’s President so well. Therefore, name calling will lead us no where. The truth about the president is not hidden but now well known. Why is BBC not accused of informing the world that president Mwanawasa died? This should not be an issue…

  85. Honourable Kabinga, stop being childish!

Leave Mbeki alone. He was well informed by a senoir official of SADC.Why is BBC not attacked of informing the world that Mwanawasa died.Something is fishy some where. The truth will come out.Infct the truth is now known.

  86. Fellow Zambians ,please pipo stop insulting MBEKI,i believe our president is no more nico batila infwa ya mfumu tabaibikula cibikulebikule. You must understand that Mbeki is not small boy

  87. Papparazi, comment no.3 go to the toilet before you submit your comment.Commenting when you are pressed gives the exact result like yours.Foolish chap.

  88. In my own view, Mbeki is completely innocent and lets leave him alone. Mbeki was acting on information from the Zambian embassy in south africa. Unless whatever comes from the embassy is a lie, the way we know zambian politicians with their lies. The major culprit is Mbula. The government should ask Mbula to explain and not Mbeki. Who knows maybe Maloza Zaza works for Zambian embassy and now stupid Mbula is just refusing because of his stupidity. Please lets leave Mbeki alone. I am a Zambian but Mbeki takwete mulandu iyoo.

  89. Malone Zaza must be the fruit that has come out of the tree of Nepotism at the Zambian Embassy. He is most likely even on the payroll but Mbula suddenly wants to distance himself fron this issue. Maybe the guy is even Mbula’s relative. This is what happens when rules are not followed. This LPM Saga will expose a lot of things, this is just a tip of the iceberg.

  90. Ba Nyambe, tatubomfya language iyo muchintu bwingi pantu mukatuka nabafyashi benu. Nangu namufulwa mulechita imagine nganimwebo baeba ifyo nefyo mwingomfwa. If u are a true Zambian, u should appologise.

  91. Who can hook me up with the state house website?
Malone zaza is just some YO who left zed to work in south africa and he dont even work for the zambian govt. zaza is the kind of guy that speaks before he thinks and he just wanted attention.
trace his roots, the guy is from livingstone if he’s the same one i know.
    get well soon levy

  92. #95 you must be a dictator.i suspect you as being a Mugabe minister or a senior police officer in Zim.stay out of zed politics and concentrate on your hyper inflation!!!!!!!!

  93. Can government please trace exactly who created a rumour and ensure that such people are punished?
i will only rest my case when this rumour monger is punished.

  94. Stop blaming the first lady for the President’s own choice to continue working when he had the first stroke,he is an intellectual with his own mind,he made a personal decision to continue serving us from 2006 because he thought he was well and fit to carry on.
For all you still going on saying the President is dead because the government has not taken BBC and SKY News to task, get it now,the President is alive but in a critical situation, his life is hanging by a thread just like the contradictory Post Newspaper said in their editorial yesterday,Mulongoti and Rupiah Banda are not hiding anything,Levy is in a critical state.

  95. govt should leave mbeki alone and tell us what is happening,,we are tired of the stable condtion thing,we are entiltlted to know wats happening…some thing some were is just not rite pipo..open your eyes zambians

  96. There’s no need for the government to rush and focus on the sources of the so called rumor. The most important thing is first off all to verify that it’s indeed not a rumor! What if it is medically true? If Mwanawasa’s footage has at least been shown on TV, we’d have the courage of putting rumor mongers to task round about now. For now the most important is to ensure Presdo is alright. How does the so called minister start insulting the crocodile before crossing the river? These are the same chaps who stop at nothing out of rumor … is he not then just behaving like his friend who acted without proof? Hold your fire mwalatusebanya ba Minister!

  97. #111 LPM heart is still pumping but he has not spoken a word ever since he left Egypt.he is still on a life support machine but the 1st lady cant make the hard decision of turning it off.
Mbeki has very reliable sources and he is no child,he must have been told that there was no way back for LPM and thats why he said what he said.
Mulongoti and co are buying time. Please come out in the open and tell zambians what they already know. The kwacha has also began to lose value againest the dollar in the past two days, act now!!!

  98. 102,105,108 and Monko you are very ignorant of Zambian names. T-was a type its actually ‘Rasi’ and know chief Shezongo in Namwala and right round Zambia? What is MONK iwe stupa and am not a war vet you chaps!!!!! Get real and use ur real nouns in discussing home soil issues. You re totally exposed over myopic contributions faced by ur OLD TREE. Muzachucha ndipo mulimbe chino chaka.

  99. #114 How do u expect one in a semi coma to speak. It is not the decision of the first lady to let her husband live or die,it’s God’s decision.Yes Levy is in a critical state but still a living being, let’s have respect for humanity and fear 4 God,why should the first lady switch off life support machines when she’s not even been asked by docs.Mulongoti and everyone else r not buying time but reporting by the day as the President is in a semi coma and there is nothing else to do but wait & see if he wakes up or not.I am a very close relation to the 1st family and i have family members at the President’s bedside and in touch. The economy can’t be affected by Levy’s health, care 2 explain how?

  100. Hey Ras Zongo (#95), I know you from Kafue Boys school where birds fly backwards. Good to know you fine man. We are not cowards. It just adds to the fun. Its still easy for them to track us down should they feel like. We know that yet we still blog.

    Cheers.

  101. #118 Yes,since the President is out of the country and currently incapacitated, the Veep is Acting President and should Levy not make it or become disabled or the like and unable to rule if he wakes up then elections will have to be called within 90 days and the political and security situation in the aftermath of tragedy befalling the nation, let’s just hang in there and wait by the day, there is nothing that anyone of us can do now but things are already in place should anything bad happen so we don’t have to panick,Levy does not rule alone.

  102. #117 Zeddy. political uncertaintity, affects the economy if you have been following the exchange rates over the passed few days u will know what I am talking about.Secondly LPM is not in a semi coma,he is in a full coma.Nothing personal but pipo dont come back from such conditions.Lets face facts and not give our Zambian people false hope.I know as Zambians this is a unique situation and maybe too big an Issue for Mulongoti and co put the truth is always best.
Mulongoti is out of his depth,Kabinga Pande only did PR for BOZ and has no clue of what to do apart from demanding explanations from Mbeki(crying over spilt milk).Rupiah is crying on national TV.Zambia needs a miracle and soon.

  103. #122 Zambeef. There is no political uncertainity in Zambia neither do we have a crisis, all is as normal except our President is critically ill abroad. All political leaders including opposition are saddened and have not shown any greed by saying we hold elections now, they have been in government before and know what is to happen should the President die.
He is in a semi coma because he is responsive to external stimuli.People have awakened from coma and who are we to say Levy won’t,yes,he woon’t be the same but we cannot say certainly that he’s gonna die,let God decide!
Lastly, there r no significant changes in exchange rates.

  104. I strongly thank this conflicting report about what has happenned to our President will come to an end as soon as the Trade Fair is over. Imagine what would happen to people coming from all over the world for this event if the truth had come out.Govt feels the country would have lost if the event would have been cancelled. The truth will definately come out after this big event.

  105. #124 face facts Zeddy my man from 3100 to 3200 to 3460 kwacha to the us dollar in 3 days is not significant i dont know what is ask BOZ or anyone who understands the economy or forex dealer they will tell you these are extremly bad signs.
Having a president in a coma and only responding to light stimuli(brain dead) is a crisis in a high security military hospital.LPM is not with us anymore MHSRIP.God bless Zambia in these trying times.

  106. #127 Zambeef,Not to take things personal or boast but i will conclude by saying i don’t need a forex dealer or BOZ to interpret world forex rates & markets coz i can do it myself owing to the training i have undergone and experience.
Finally, take pleasure in our mental anguish and suffering as our relative lies in hospital, that’s all i have to say but remember,Levy is a human being and has family like all of you,we are only human and have feelings too.

  107. #127 maybe u think your father will be president. Our President will come back fit and ukomfwa nensoni. U don’t even deserve to be a Zambian. What is the exchange rate has to do with the sickness of our President. Chiluba was not sick and the rate reached 5000pin. Lets just continue praying for our President. If you don’t have money, thats your problem.

  108. Next time before announcing such important news try to confirm. Don’t lead the masses astray and I see no reason why you should give Mbeki problems, just live him alone.LIG (Let it go).
YOU guys who are really anxious about Levy’s condition just be patient the truth will still come to light.

  109. I don’t care what any Mbeki sympathizers have to say, but I pity the South African people for having him as President. Isn’t it the same pint size bird brain who recently argued that there was no crisis in Zimbabwe? Yes he is. He’s just got this annoying habit of making unsavoury utterances anyhow. How can a whole president just jump to announce that a fellow Head of State has passed on without double checking the facts? It really bits me. Grow up Mbeki for crying out loud…Jeez this little man; does he mean to tell me all these years he’s spent on this planet he’s not come to understand the power of the tongue?

  110. #128 dont be emotional be strong.i was not being personal just stating facts.Since u say u are well trained why did u argue with me in the 1st place?
#129 I dont think u know what ur talking about.Becoz of this uncertainty, the Kwacha has lost its value.the price of fuel goes up,which than affects the bus fares and transport in general goes up.The Zambian people in general start to feel the pinch, the price of food goes up.The problem with us Zambians is that we dont like to face facts.#129 LPM is not coming back and thats a fact.Lets not give false hope to the Zambian pipo.Rupiah shud come out in the open and tell us the truth that we already know and end this uncertainty.

  111. continued
our economy is at stake while we cry about one individual.Think of the masses 128 and 129 be factual and stop living in LA LA land.i believe u are both grown men.

  112. My heart goes out to the First family as they sail through this difficult period. I kindly urge all right thinking Zedians to pray for the president’s speedly recovery.

  113. #131 u should not act as if u are a villager. There is no way a President will starting making phone call to Zambia if he trusts whatever information comes from the embassy. Unless u tell me that whatever information comes from our embassy is fake or untrue. The problem was with Mbula.

  114. #136
how can i want someone who is medically dead,to die?just stating the facts ba monk.i do have a heart.we shud just learn to be realistic.

  115. #136 Zambeef. Iam not being emotional,am telling you facts too.Until the doctors certify the President dead,we will not argue, keep on saying he’s already dead,we know it’s not about being realistic but political.
To all those genuinely concerned, the Minister of Health just sent us text msgs to say the situation is the same but steady progress is being made as slight movements can be seen in the President.
    Thanx

  116. Br Mala msana wanzili, Long time, I have been slightly busy with social aspects. Where is brother KUKU? I miss your mature contributions. We are now having chaps like Zambeef who lack critical analysis of political affairs. Zambeef I like young man. Keep up with unfounded stories.I’m not an economist but if I were to look at our Kwacha gaining I believe the flow of major foreign currencies will be less and this will also have some impact terms of exporting our goods.

  117. Typical Zambians just making noise and romour mongering is what they are good at, I have read the posts on LT on Levy and all of them are rubbish! People spend time on the net instead of concentrating on their affairs. Most of you are just floor cleaners, maids and old people’s homes workers working abroad pretending to be intellegent. Go to sleep you people whether Levy is dead or alive will not change your miserable lives, off course the haters will have a moment of temporary hapiness but After their diabolical celebrations it was be back to their miserable lives.

    Get a life you misers

  118. Zambeef,
I know who you are,you have not changed.Still as argumentative as ever and still using “zambeef”.
As with LPM i believe that he is still alive but will never be the same if he ever wakes up.I dont think becoz your “Balli” was sacked for stealing that you should be bitter.its all sour grapes.Grow up ma man and act like the professional we have always known you to be!

  119. It shoes the gutless nature and sheer ingratitude of Mbeki. No wonder his vodoo cocktail of silent diplomacy he has for nearly a decade been administering on Mugabe has borne nothing but opposite results. This man has a hotline to Mwanawasa´s office, why did he not call directly himself as opposed to relying on a so called Mozambiqan SADC official that Levy is dead? No wonder, this foolish Kotsanostra walked into the ANC conference only to be handed a resoundind defeat by a rapist, his shocked glassy eyes were ramnificent of one who had just seen a ghost.

  120. #140 X mas,
i think u must be a miserable civil servant in Mumbwa or a cleaner, care woker,Mcdonalds dish washer in Europe

  121. Simple reasoning, “nature abhores a vacuum” nature just took its course, how many times will our President have one afflication after the other and the whole nation is kept in the dark, I hope Pande who is apparently has PR background should learnt from these occurences, this is the price you pay for taking things for granted and being casual about the Office of the Presidency.

  122. I continue to pray that the Lord God of hosts who dwells in heaven, who created all things, who healed and still heals all manner of diseases, the one with whom nothing is impossible, heals our president.

Arguing about his state will not help us. Lets prayerfully wait and see how things will unfold.

  123. Reading sme pipo’s comments make me wonder if at all, they knw wat lies at stake here. Ba Zambeef wat r u trying to proof?Wat gud is Levy death to u or the nation? The nation knw Levy’s condition even b4 electing him for office. Wat most reasonable zedians are hoping for is that he stables up, nominates smeone who cn continue wat he strt’d!Pipo r vry much aware of his current condition. As for Mbeki,he shld ‘ve kwn beta.He put himself in tht mess!

  124. Mbeki is gud man but sometimes he lives in a world of his own ,protocol is very straight forward you do not rely on radio 702 for such important news which can easily cause strife if not handled properly.RSA has an embassy in Lusaka why didn’t Nkhosana Zuma just pick up the phone and verfy media reports before allowing his boss to make announcements of on behalf other gov .We have credible government in Zambia which is very functional we might be poor but we need to be respected because Zambians chose his government. He must concentrate his efforts with his comarade Bob in Zim and get to retire from politics and bring sanity to this once mighty country.God bless Levy.God bless Zambia.Amen

  125. # 135 Monk or monkey, whatever you prefer to call yourself. You, like Mbeki don’t check your facts first. Who told you Mbeki got the information from the embassy? I have you to know that he got it from the SADC Executive Secretary, *****. Now you see that you are the villager here you fruit bat.

  126. No. 3…. ur an *****! Zambia maybe considered economically poor, but by no means are we politically nor culturally poor. We are a soverign nation that cares deeply for one another (whether zambian or not). And therefore the welfare of our leader LPM, is of deep interest to us. Whether LPM pulls through or not we will definately rise to the challenge like we always have. And look around you…. Zambia has a legacy that very few african countries can match!

  127. I hope and pray that the president’s health is stable and wishing him a quick recovery and God bless. And plse pipo stop writting nonsense about de president.

  128. Who is going to tell the Nation the truth? ARE WE trying GOD or we have no confindence in ourselves.Fearing the unknown, is it the way itz with Z.

  129. #158. I am happy that u have forgiven me. Thats how we Zambians are. Nangu mwalwa, after two days abantu they will see u together drinking Castle mulelya nembushi. Cheers man. Are u in Morocco?

  130. So tell us # 27 how these Zambians would introduce themselves at the gate….Would it be something like…” Ati shani bigge…Ifwe twafuma pa Zedi zoona bakamba…Twishele mukupempula pakateka bigge zoona”. No worrys folks LPM will pull through as long as our prayers to God are sincere and well meaning. Long live Levy, aluta continua Zambia

  131. Good morning all,

what is latest on LPM? Being a Sunday all the movers and shakers are on a break, eh?

  132. all of you need to stop giving your opinions some of us do not want to hear your insults you fools are just embarassing yourselves and i mean zambeef wat kind of villager are you shut up!! already im done listening to your crap!!!!

  133. #163 Mr Know it all, villagers are also entitled to freedom of speech and expression! This is not Zim,where you come from.
This blog is LusakaTimes.com and not HarareTimes.com
As a matter of fact I shall think of calling myself “villager” and not zambeef.
Cheers for that donar Kebab(or is it Chickhen)!

  134. Please leave Mbeki alone. We have a lot to do than going through fruitless investigations. We all know how this rumour started.Find Zaza and leave Levy alone.BBC and CNN also broadcasted the same, are you investigating them.Besides Mbeki has already apologised, what else dfo you want fro him

  135. Mbeki’s remarks on Levy, are a true reflection of what kind of working relations these people are having and it shows how South Africa is against Zambia all brought about because of Zimbabwe. What kind of a prsident is he that he cannot even wait to gather the truth, but rushes into making blunders like that.Lets hope they did not plan to feed our president ifinangwa to try and kill him, because such kind of behavior raises more suspicions than trust.

  136. #162 and all genuinely concerned about the President’s health,HE LPM is due for a review tomorrow so as of today, his physician and the Minister of Health Gen Chituwo together with duty doctors say there have been no worrying concerns to his health,he continues to be stable(i know most people are not appreciating the word ‘stable’ but that’s as it comes).
A better opinion will come after the medical review tomorrow.
    Thanx and God bless.

  137. bane.bible inakamba ati mwakulafwa ,bushe abafwa te bantu?Lekeni batushe tukaya basanga kanshi mwaba shani?Mulongoti nga letubepa ekesako kuno ku Zed ,Zed is achristian nation ukekale uko kwine ku France.twakupolomota niwe diplomat wikesha no kwesha ukalamwena Zed mu newspaper.

  138. If Mbeki depends on the media for information then he must be a very bad president for his country.South Africa should have well establish systems to acertain the truth. It will be sad to note that the president of South African has brought his nation to shame by depending on undependable media.

  139. If Mbeki depends on the media for information then he must be a very bad president for his country.South Africa should have well establish systems to acertain the truth. It will be sad to note that the president of South African has brought his nation to shame by depending on undependable media.

  140. Ha ha ha ha! This site is the one! My ribs are almost cracking with laughter! You guys made my day. It’s a reflection of our nation Zambia complete with all the characters even the ones we loathe so much in govt, they are all represented here! Bravo.

On a serious note we need to pray that our nation comes stronger out of this entire episode. Learn the mistakes and chart a better course forward.

  141. all massages posted here are sucking, let the wise contribute not most of you guys.
this is not something to mock bout.
be wise guys en know wat comes out of you.

    Keep Off Suckers.

  142. # 179, so where’s your wise contribution? You’re just as vulgar. I mean, it would make sense if your criticism was followed by something progressive, even a pray. But what do you do? You mess it all up. Vulgar language will not heal our president, but sincere prayers to God.

  143. Trying to “find out” why Mbeki made the announcement is simply a scapegoating and distraction strategy. Mbeki as well as others had credible sources originating from ZAMBIA itself. What is actually disgusting is that we are not new to this situation, where govt officials insult our intelligence by making announcements that are outright deceptive and misleading. I personally don’t trust a governement who (if you can recall) made the announcement that the president was doing fine and “jogging in the streets of London” the first time he suffered a stroke. Absolute ridiculousness. Why should we now believe what the government has to say about the presidents condition?

  144. Death and sickness are for every person, let’s not make fun of Levy’s (President) sickness. Let’s appreciate what he has done for this country. He is a human being just like any other person and bound to making mistkes. Let enemies not mock him at this tasting moment. Mulekwata uluse mwebantu ba kwa Lesa twapapata.
