Chieftainess Mwenda of Mazabuka has ordered the arrest of a 62 year old man of Mabwetuba area who allegedly compensated parents of a defiled girl, with an old single bed and bicycle after he was caught red handed defiling the minor.
The traditional ruler told ZANIS in Mazabuka today, that she personally ordered the arrest of the man as he is believed to be an HIV patient on anti retroviral treatment.
Chieftainess Mwenda said parents of the defiled girl will also be punished at Mwenda local court for accepting compensation without protecting the health of their child.
She regretted that the father to the girl, a village headman, accepted to be compensated when her daughter had been infected with the deadly virus.
Chieftainess Mwenda said the suspect has been handed over to Mazabuka police for prosecution.
The traditional ruler said defilement cases in her chiefdom were on the increase and called on the Police Victim Support Unit, VSU, to conduct educational campaigns to discourage elderly men from having sex with minors.

Toughen the law. Defiling minors is tantamount to murder, so is knowingly infecting someone with a deadily virus such as HIV. Both deserve 35 years to life.
