NAKONDE residents in Northern Province have welcomed the announcement by the National Constitutional Conference (NCC) to broadcast live its deliberations.
One of the residents, Miriam Mumbi said the move by NCC to broadcast its deliberations is a step in the right direction.
Mumbi said it is important that members of the public follow the deliberations of NCC.
Mumbi however, expressed disappointment over the poor radio and television reception in Nakonde district.
She said there was an urgent need by government especially the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Services (MIBS) to assist the national broadcaster to improve its radio and television reception.
Mumbi said information was power adding that people in the countryside would like to contribute to the development of the country by making informed decision but were failing to do that due to lack of information.
Mumbi said NCC should also help Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation [ZNBC] which has the largest audience to improve on its reception so as to enable follow the deliberations of NCC.
She lamented that people were keen to follow the happenings in the country through the national broadcaster but were failing to follow such events properly due to poor radio and television reception.
And Baptist Fellowship of Zambia [BFZ] Home missionary John Mulalika has said the move by NCC to broadcast its deliberations was welcome but the national broadcaster, ZNBC should also improve on its radio and television reception.
“People want to follow the deliberations of NCC but will not be able to follow that due poor radio and television reception of the national broadcaster,” he said.
NCC secretary Nuton Nguni announced yesterday that NCC would broadcast its deliberations on both ZNBC radio and television.

That’s a very good step ahead.LPm will leave a legacy.NCC pliz give us some deadline as to when you will finish your deliberations and ratification of Draft to parliament.we shall know who will have betrayed us.
the broadcast of the NCC is very welcome. it is very enlighting to all i for one having watched it this afternoon. eventually all will be able to know wat is going on in the NCC and also know the basis of arguments by participants. thereby make up their own minds on what should be adopted. welldone to all who have made the broadcast possible!
For one to get ZNBC reception in Northern Province, one has to erect a long pole for the antenna. This in itself attracts TV thieves. Some people who do not have TVs out of shame also erect very long poles with a TV antenna to prove they have a TV. This had annoyed some thieves who broke into one home only to find a two band ratio. Therefore it is important, 44 years after independence , to improve reception country wide. Even in major towns reception is a problem. People subscribe to DSTV just to have a better ZNBC reception. Why are we paying TV licence? Something fishy in Zambia.
the point should be when will be our national constutional be read that will stand the test of time, and the will of the Mother Zed people
for how long will we have this very important document in our hands ,
whether u watch ncc or not,wat difference will it make?it can only make sense if viewers inputs are taken in debate.if those jokers decide to kill all bembas, even if the northern province is watchin, they cannot do anything but wait fo their death.watching alone is not enough.
LT your spelling mistakes are outrageous, please improve on this guys. Is it Newton Ng’uni or Nuton Nguni?
#5, just like you have to crawl before walking we cannot expect to take a giant leap all at once, this is progress enough and just knowing that you are on live TV discourages you from trivilising an issue on account that everyone is watching. Anyhwo for me I think this is a step forward and we are making progress as a country. I watched a session last night and it was quite interesting I should say, though some contributors did not know what they were talking about, but I think it is a worthwhile move.
#5 I am sure you have watched parliament debates on TV. Have you ever contributed at any stage during those debates?
I think it is a move aheard for Zambia because it gives ideas of what is being discussed by committee.
I think Zambia is developing in democracy.
