Benjamin Mwila backs RB

The National Democratic Focus (NDF) has declared to support Acting President Rupiah Banda during the October 30 Presidential by election.

NDF President Benjamin Mwila said  that Mr. Banda is the right choice for the country’s Presidency.

Mr. Mwila stated that he will not contest the elections saying his party’s primary focus is the provision of competent and ethical leadership capable of uniting the Zambian people.

He urged all his supporters and party members countrywide to campaign for Acting President Rupiah Banda in the forthcoming elections.

He said the NDF’s decision to rally behind Mr. Banda is consistent with the one they made in 2006 when the party supported the candidature of the late President Mwanawasa.

Mr. Mwila said his party expects the MMD administration under Mr. Banda to provide leadership with abundant patriotism and nationalism to defend the legitimate rights and interests of the Zambian people.

He added that Mr. Banda’s administration is expected to practically and consistently stress on the policy fundamentals for social and economic growth that benefits the Zambian people.

And Mr. Mwila has expressed sadness at the refusal by some opposition political parties to accept the MMD proposal to save money by not conducting the Presidential by election billed for October 30.

He added  the saved national resources would be used to subsidise agricultural inputs, provide drugs in hospitals, pay teachers, doctors, nurses and lecturers salaries and allowances.i

  1. I hope the support is in good faith – not to take advantage and continue arms deals because RB looks weak. He has not told me what he will do on his own apart from saying we will continue where LPM left.

    RB status does not warrant him to start distributing essential commodities because he will have no time to plan for the country.

  9. Sorry we don’t want a leader without a mandate from the people. That could potentially lead to instability in the populace and despotic behaviour as leaders feel insecure. All the talk about saving money for hospitals and school sounds fine but lack of stability in the case that people don’t have confidence an ‘appointed’ president is more costly if you ask me. There is a deeper philosophical underlying reason for holding elections. Please do not presume to speak for the Zambian people by BY.

  33. Any rational person would not just dismiss BY off hand. Firstly he has a democratic right to choose to do what he has done. Secondly this is a man who beat hands down the “mighty” parties in his constituency. He is an elected Member of Parliament. Dismiss him at your own peril. Every vote counts.

Having someone in office with the lack of higher education is dangerous. I am sure people can tell the difference between our late President, Chiluba and Sata. Our former president had a vision, improved our economy and used critical thinking to move the country forward. In addition, he had integrity and was an honest man. I am sure Sata knows little about critical thinking and what it takes to a credible leader, just look at his record-third term supporter for Chiluba. As for Mwaanga, you have to wonder whether Vernon ‘Mwansa’ knows any degree of political opportunistic gutlessness! Look at Mazoka, a clearly ‘dead man’ walking and Tongas thought he was healthy, shame.

  94. RB’s credentials can be found on wikipedia. That being said, neither opposition can win without combining. Even then, it would be an uphill struggle because some of the issues they campaigned on in 2006 have been addressed by the MMD. Sata’s last campaign was anti-chinese which is no longer the case. UPND campaigned on free education which the MMD answered by providing free primary education. Sata’s tax cuts have also been answered by the MMD which also cut the basic income tax rate. What remains constant is the fact that neither of the opposition parties have made inroads in the provinces in which they do not have much support. So MMD will form the next govt.

  166. All this yapping and back and forth talk is pointless. The sooner both HH and Sata get it into their heads that they will not win individually, the better. I don’t support any of the candidates but I can see that neither of the two can stand alone and expect to win. The problem is neither of them can put self interest aside and join forces. If HH and Sata joined forces, the MMD would be in peril. Anyway…..I guess a person can only dream. We really need new, vibrant and educated people in parliament so that future selection of a President is not as painful tedious as it is now. The options we have are gastly.
