Contractors under fire

Share

Government has warned contractors against shoddy works as it is spending colossal sums of money on constructing infrastructure.

Ministry of Education Services Director Ruth Mubanga observed that contractors were in a hurry to complete works without doing a proper job.

ZANIS reports that Ms Mubanga said contractors demanded to be paid in full even without following proper procedures.

The Director said this in Kapiri-Mposhi yesterday (Saturday)on her tour of school infrastructure in Central Province.

She directed that shoddy construction works be re-done as Government would not allow its efforts to improve infrastructure to be frustrated.

And the Director has taken a swipe at District Education Board Secretaries (DEBS) who failed to scrutinize contractors engaged by Government.

Meanwhile a named contractor who was engaged by Government to construct Kalimina School in Chibombo district has abandoned the project.

The named contractor of Kabwe is said to be on the run after having been paid an initial amount to carry out the project as per the construction agreement.

A check at the project site revealed that the contractor only put up the foundation in June this year and he has since abandoned it.

The Ministry of Eduction Director is in Central Province to tour school projects under the ministry.

  1. Dont we have proper procedures to monitor the capabilities of these contractors kanshi? And honnestly whats this nonsense of contractors being paid in full before finishing the work? The systems need to be revisited

  2. My little knowledge of accounting procedures is that there is a tender procedure including payments according to completed phases.
Why are you paying contractors for incomplete or shoddy jobs?
Do they hold you at gun point for paymnents? No,you people receive kick backs.

  3. #2. Thats why SATA is needed to come and sweep the Zambian dirty house clean. The man is coming with his speed boat in full throttle. Contractors must be regulated. Where on earth were contractors paid in full even before they commenced their work. There is always something fishy about tenders in Zambia. Guys stop the rot.

  4. KAPENA HEZ PART OF THE FAMILY TREE WHO KNOWS CHIBOMBO THATS MAUREENS VILLAGE HE MUST BE A COUSIN SINCE HE KNOWS LPM IS DEAD IT WILL BE A BAD DEBT

  5. Dont blame Contractors. Blame yourselves for giving them these contracts/Tenders. The Whole GRZ Tender scheme is roten and stinks of corruption.

  6. THOSE OF US WHO CAN PRAY AND FAST, THIS IS THE TIME,CHRISTIANS ,WE GAT TO BE ON OUR KNEES.TALK ON YOUR KNEES TO GOD.WE REFUSE ANY BLOODSHED,WE CANNOT ALLOW THE ENEMY TO TAKE ANY OF OUR BROS N SISTAZ LIFES DURING THIS COMING ELECTIONS.PRAY FOR PEACEFUL AND GODLY INTERVENTION.IT’S NOT TIME TO GOSSIP, FOR THOSE THAT CAN PRAY AND FAST LET THE LORD SPEAK TO YOU TO FAST THIS WEEK FOR ZAMBIA OUR MOTHERLAND.AMEN

  7. SATA is the man who can sort out all these dubious contractors. RB hasn’t got a firm grip on issues, thats why he is talking of LPM’s vision. Check what has happened to the fuel cuts, RB announced without consulting the Finance ministry, and now Magande has started overruling RB.

Even the Carlington maize saga will resurrect, and Nawakwi will be in soup. She thinks Sata has forgotten about her deals. All those who are appearing in the Auditor General report will be in soup.

  8. RB talks about experience (in corruption and bribery) and continuity (unemployment and poverty). Can someone explain to me please

  9. The problem is this: These people awarding contracts are also interested in money. They give the contract to people they know that a comission will be there after contract granted. Don’t give the blame to these guys, First tackle this and then the other one letter.
