Mysterious disease did not originate from Zambia, Mbula

Share

Zambia’s High Commissioner to South Africa Leslie Mbula has assured the Zambian community in that country that the mysterious illness that recently claimed three South African nationals did not originate from Zambia.

Mr Mbula also appealed to the Zambian community to respect the laws of the host country and desist from indulging in practices that might affect the excellent relations that have existed between Zambia and South Africa for many years.

He was addressing over 100 Zambians and well wishers yesterday (Saturday) at Capricorn FET college in Polokwane the provincial capital of the Limpopo province.

Addressing the audience which had gathered to celebrate Zambia’s 44th independence Anniversary, Mr Mbula said that an erroneous impression had been created by the South African media that the mysterious disease originated from Zambia simply because the first victim, a south African woman, Cecilia van Deventer worked in Zambia as an expatriate.

This is contained in a statement released to ZANIS in Lusaka today (Sunday)and signed by Second Secretary for Press at the mission Philip Chirwa.

Mr Mbula explained that victim early this year attended a wedding in South Africa where she fell sick along with six others adding that all of them had developed Diarrhea, vomiting and headche.

He noted that the woman returned to Zambia where she developed fever and other symptoms and she was flown to South Africa after her condition deteriorated as she had seizures and died on 14 September at Morningside medi-clinic.

”What is surprising is that during her treatment while in Zambia, the woman came into contact with her family and employees of the hospital where she was admitted. So far, none of these people have shown any symptoms of the disease,” Mbula said adding that it was therefore incorrect to insinuate that the disease originated in Zambia.

Mr Mbula pointed out that it was therefore incorrect to insinuate that the disease originated in Zambia.

He has since asked the Zambians to spread the word that people were free to travel to Zambia because there was nothing to fear.

Meanwhile, Mr Mbula said that it was very important that the Zambian community respected the laws of the host country by desisting from engaging in any criminal acts , more so that Zambians and South Africans shared historical links.

Mr Mbula reminded the audience that the African National Congress (ANC) Party, like other liberation movements in the sub region, was based in Zambia.

In another development, Mr Mbula reiterated his appeal to Zambians to invest in Zambia as individuals or by entering into joint partnerships with South Africa investors.

He urged them to invest in real estate, agriculture, tourism, manufacturing and mining in order for them to to have something to lean on when they return home.

Earlier, the High Commissioner donated an assortment of gifts to the Children’s Ward at Polokwane Hospital.

He paid tribute to the chairman of the Zambian community in Limpopo, Professor Jones Ng’ambi and Programme Coordinator Miyanda Mudenda-Mulaudzi fo having worked hard to mobilise a large number of Zambians to meet him.

  1. “Zambia’s High Commissioner to South Africa Leslie Mbula has a s s u r e d the Zambian community in that country that the mysterious illness that recently claimed three South African nationals did not originate from Zambia.”
Thanks Mr Leslie Mbula for only great men and women are able to apologise and give a correct picture of the situation.
Take care though and be blessed. Together we can rebuild the SADC region to something great to benefit all diverse groups of people in it.

  2. Tell that T.D Jakes not to bother coming to Zambia. Canceling his trip like that was an insult to all Zambians. These guys only care about P.R.

  3. We knew that it did not originate from Zambia from the very start but where is the compensation from the SA gov’t for tarnishing our good name worldwide?

  4. Indeed this should be told to TD Jakes. Punks like him are pretenders hiding behind the curtain of religion when all they care about are their own selfish monetary interests. How could he have promptly canclled his trip like that minus finding out the truth from the right pipo. So much for a person of God!

  5. This uncle to LPM Mbula should be recalled back to zambia as soon as we get in office. The same goes for all the numerous members of the family tree. Viva positive change. Viva PF. Viva sata.

  6. i knew it and South Africa must apologies!!!! how ever the Woman must be Zambia LT because she grew up there and if am not mistaken she was even born in Zambia but since she is white, she has more links with South African people than Zambians. I might be wrong i read this in an Objective south African paper the Sowetan

  7. #6 please let us respect the elders, it is unafrican to say such things. MC and RB much older than most of us please respect. some of the jobs most people that are outside zambia do is clean up the old. Am sure thats what you do. LET NOT FORGET WHERE WE COME FROM.

  8. No. 14: The woman is South African, South Africans are fullin head and like to trash other african countries. Mr. Mbula has indicated that the woman was an expartriate working in Zambia. However, Mr Mbula should do enough by asking the South to apologise. This is not a joke; for instance the alarm scared TD Jakes and many more we dont know about.

  9. The media should research thorough before publishing such sensitive issues which border on people,s lives. TD Jakes cancelled his trip to Zambia because of the same. Shame on the media spreading false propaganda.

  10. TDJakes et al does not serve the same God you and me know. If you didn’t know, then know it now. Although we use the same Bible, the American god is not the God of the Bible or let me say the creator of the universe, their god is GOLD. So when they say “in the name of god”, they are actually saying “In the name of GOLD”. That is why RSA is their preferred destination coz there is GOLD there. There are grudaz there. Let you not be deceived. The simple reason for his cancellation of the trip was because less GOLD (grudaz) was raised from the ticket sales. PERIOD.

  11. Uwawa tabula kabepesho. If you don’t want to come to Zambia we can’t force you. But don’t cookup stories of Diseases. Even with Malaria and AIDS (like RSA, Zambia has over 10million healthy people. Feel free to come to Zambia with a good cause.

  12. I knew it that the Disease did not originate from the Zed…you pipo were busy arguing with me…well to good am converted I would have given you my other piece of mind.were are my frinds, Cexy_1, pastor osama bin zed and the other crew?

  13. Then South African government owe’s us an apology for the disgrace and alarm they caused. Mr Mbula dont be a coward let them apologise those chaps….

  14. Ba Mbula, Go tell those media freaks in south Africa to give us an apology for those malicious stories. we in Zambia only suffer from chifuba because of too much dust mukomboni not those unnamed matenda. #24 pastor Shetani, good sense of humor but sure you could have picked a better name.

  15. Ebola is a virus that causes heamorraghic fever. When one gets it, they bleed from every possible organ of the body. There is no cure for it and mortality is almost 100%

  18. It’s a shame really that our own medical personnel did not respond in terms of alaying the false news. Our image is now dented. Like somebody said, even with malaria and HIV our country has well 85% of the population very healthy. The T.D. Jerks of this world can be.

  19. Iwe Maimbolwa kwena wali pena! Ndi we osokonezaka maningi!
The disease is established already so why do you statrt insulting people? The Issue lie now with the Zambian governement to do damage control. Economically Zambia stood at a loss if the disease had been declared a pandemic in R.S.A and quarantine Joburg, they would have probably advised that no S.A planes fly to Zambia. If this action was to be taken, think of how many people would have panicked and left Zambia? For the Zambian health authorities it’s a warning, one day it might just be that a disease from S.A has been discovered to have spread in the Southern region and how would we deal with it?
Cancer kills more people than Aids

  20. In South Africa’s Metroplitan cities Cancer kills twice the number of those peopledieying fom Aids. So incurable diseases are not just H.I.V. People spend a fortune on the latest treatments only for their life to be shortened.
It’s not a matter of how long you live anymore, it’s matter of how you live. The curtains are being drawn the world stage is closing, you life is what matters, whoever you serve, you need to ask if you will be worthy to live with him at the close of your play line, everyone will move off the stage 100% of the people living on earth today will die, So live for God.

  21. Good job Lesley. Now you must tell those bantu education graduates in RSA that they have more deseases than any country in SADC. Given their looseness and no condoms policy , they may have spread it through sex.

    Ignore them everyone.

  22. RB talks about experience (in corruption and bribery) and continuity (unemployment and poverty). Can someone explain to me please

  23. It’s not ebola or Marburg disease she died from. Apparently a few people have died in SA due to a bite from a Two-Striped Telamonia (Telamonia dimidiata) spider. It was found uner a toilet seat in one restaurant in Western Cape and a number of people bitten by it had showed the same symptoms as the expat lady.

Apparently if in SA, best lift the toilet seat before you sit down for a number one (ladies) or a number 2 (ladies and gentlemen).

  24. T.D Jakes who needs him! we have enough preachers in this country. Just aswell he did not come. Good ridance to bad rubbish.

  25. They sure need to apologise for creating such an impression for us to the outside world. For eg, i have just applied for a tourist visa to australia but now am not even sure they will grant me the visa because them too have even posted it on their immigration website that zed is a dangerous place to go to now because of this mysterious disease originating from zed which has killed people in South Africa. So this statement from Mr Mbula should really be publicised otherwise an impression has already been created about zambia out there!

    thanks though!

  26. Its sad that those died.may they rest in peace. meanwhile it nice to hear that Zambians were able to come together to celebrate our national day even those outside the country. We had nice celebrations here in Kenya and thanks to the outgoing committee for the job well done

  27. tym alone will tell…..riddims can show that @ the moment,Mother Zambia needs change. To the gov´t of the day, don´t rig em elections for the sake of the old and the young who brave themselves to go out on a day one wouldn´t know what to expect only to be let down cos their will or the majoritie´s never prevails.Let the best candidate take the day as a gov´t of national unity would put things in check.

  32. ”What is surprising is that during her treatment while in Zambia, the woman came into contact with her family and employees of the hospital where she was admitted.
