Zamsure: Tamanga on Empty

Share

Zamsure have just three games left to save their status in the Faz league.

The fallen and once great “Tamanga” Zamsure currently lie bottom of the third and last tier of the league in Faz division 2 midlands table just two seasons after their demotion from division 1 south in 2006.

Zamsure’s fall comes 11 years after they peaked to finish as league runner-up in 1999 and won the Mosi Cup, fueled by their lethal ex-striker Joel Kabemba, and two years earlier were number two in successive BP Top 8 finals.

Furthermore, it has been 8 years since Zamsure last played in Africa rubbing shoulders there with legendary Canon Yaoundé while on the brink of a quarterfinal place in the defunct Caf Cup Winners Cup before the latter ejected them 5-1 on aggregate.

Zamsure have been in free-fall since their demotion from the Premier League in 2002 together with Mufulira Wanderers but unlike the Shinde side, they failed to bounce back or even make a strong case for promotion.

With no sponsorship after the withdrawal of the local giant insurance company that bankrolled them from inception, Zamsure were cast out alone into the sea drifting further away and into very choppy waters with every coming season.

Zamsure currently rely on handouts from a loyal pool of employees from the same insurance company who also voluntary manage the club and the team is also a beneficiary of donations from private individuals who have followed Tamanga’s plight over the last 8 years.

This season, Zamsure has won 5 out of their 27 games played so far drawing 6 and losing 16 matches on 21 points heading into the final straight that will decide their Faz league destiny.

Zamsure’s battle for survival is very precarious with 15th placed Chirundu United above them on 24 points tied on the same figure with Irwin Rangers and Kafue United who are in 13th and 12th position respectively.

The magic number for Zamsure is 27 and that is how many points 5th from bottom TP Rangers in 12th spot are on from their 27 matches played so far and whose goal difference is 25-34 to Tamanga’s 26-50.

Meanwhile, Zamsure’s last 3 games will see them face 8th placed Sable Bulls away, before hosting 10th positioned Afritex.

Zamsure wrap-up their survival fight with a 2 minute walk across the road from their Zamsure sports complex home-ground to BP sports complex to face 9th placed K-Stars who beat them 2-0 in the first leg earlier this season.

Should Zamsure be demoted to the amateur ranks, an uncertain future awaits them in the abyss and where lies the difficult prospect of bouncing back after 3 decades in the high life.

  1. Its so sad that the team that brought so much joy to LSK residents is no more. I remember how we could fill up woodlands stadium in 1995-1997, to see ZAMSURE beat C’B teams like Mufulira Wanderers, Nkana, Power etc,, lol. I remember those fiery debut games with City of Lsk at woodlands, I remember BP top 8 final game at Independence Stadium with Mighty how Tamanga boys came from 3-0 down to level the scores and force the game into extra time. I remember this team winning the 1999 Mosi Cup. Some one should save this team twapapata, where is ZSIC pliz, ba Ireen Muyenga pliz come to the rescue of this team

On Chibamba Kanyama I concur with you. It was because he joined ZSIC when we saw the company withdraw it sponsorship for the Tamanga boys. Now as if just a coincidence, the same Chibamba Kanyama is with Zambia Breweries then what happens, ZB withdraws its sonsorship for the 47year Mosi cup.

Im really starting to think he is the one behind all this.

  3. Simple companies think they do not awe the society around them anything. So whay should they support football teams?

  4. No team can perform well without sponsorship. Ireen Muyenga is a very selfish woman, no wonder she is not married. This team was a very side and you need some who has interest in football to imfluence ZISC to improve the sponsorship.

  5. A challenge for the soccer loving fans in diaspora. Organise yourselves, form a consortium to buy Zamsure. Show some patriotism.

  6. SPORTS IN ZAMBIA NEED A POLITICAL WILL. MANY TEAMS HAVE FALLEN DUE TO LUCK OF SPONSORSHIP. WE NEED DELIBARATE POLICIES TO MAKE PARASTALS AND PRIVATE COMPANIES TO SUPPORT SPORT. WHAT IS CORPORATE RESPONSIBILITY?. THOSE PLAYERS ARE THE YOUTHS WHO MAKE UP THE NATIONAL TEAMS OF TOMORROW. BETTER IN SPORT THAN ON THE STREET. I HOPE MR. RB WILL GIVE DIRECTION IF HOLDING 2011 ALL AFRICA GAMES IS WELL INTENDED.

  7. #10 wasosa, y would kabamba b allowed to kill the game we love so much? shame.Gentlemen this is very serious coz ZAMTEL is doing the same to its foot team bcoz someone at the helm does not like the worlds its most popular sport. RB should show a lot of leadership on this being a former FAZ VEEP,FAZ LIFE MEMBER AND NOW FAZ PATRON.

  8. 2 bad 4 zamsure, i remember one Game at Railway ground againist Warriors somewhere in 95-6 when Zamsure had players like White Mbewe and Verspa Janza, White Mbewe single handedly ripped Warriors apart and they Won 3-0.

I think Chibamba Kanyama is bad 4 Football, when he joined Zambia State Insuarance Cooperation, they stopped sponsoring Zamsure. This time he has joined Zambian Breweries and they dont want to sponser the MOSI cup

  9. Zamsure problems are as a result of having wrong people in wrong organisations and wrong positions. Look at Chibamba Kanyama and what he advised ZSIC to do with Zamsure. no wonder this country will take a long time to develop. The best thing we all start doing is to abandon companies that dont sponsor football. lets go to companies that support sports. Shame on ZSIC!!! shame on Muyenga!!! shame on Chibamba, i would not be surprised he was behind the plot to kill Mosi Cup. he has just joined Zambian breweries. lets watch that man, hez up to no good with football

  10. Chibamba Kanyama is a devil, a person who has no feeling for other people. Where he will go, his job is to destroy. He did it at ZISC and now Zambia Breweries. Shame you Chibamba .Why cant he emulate Augustine Seyuba who left ZB sponsoring Mosi cup and KCM sponsoring our league.
And those of you who have no interest in foot please dont waste your time commenting on this matter.Sport brings people together especially football. So someone should advice this devil Chibamba to stop killing football in this country.
