Zambia Institute of Purchasing and Supply renews zeal to combat corruption

Share

The Zambia Institute of Purchasing and Supply has pledged to scale up the fight against corruption among its members in line with government’s policy of zero tolerance to corruption.

Zambia Institute of Purchasing and Supply Kitwe chapter chairman Heggie Kalangwa however notes that the fight against corruption in relation to the purchase and supply of goods and services would only be won if both the public and private sectors employed qualified people accredited to the Zambia Institute of Purchasing and Supply.

Mr. Kalangwa was speaking in Kitwe last evening at a dinner dance hosted by the institute at hotel Edinburgh.

He said the institution would continue making the procurement and supply management profession in Zambia as a vehicle and tool for economic prosperity through prudent procurement and supply.

Mr. Kalangwa told the diners that his institution has also come up with a deliberate programme of sensitizing members on the dangers of HIV and AIDS in all its forums.

Government has assured the nation that remains steadfast to virtues of good governance and combating corruption as the vice has devastating effects on any nation’s development prospects due to the cost to the nation of corrupt practices.

Zambia is on record that it condemns all forms of corruption as it only serves to benefit those with selfish interests at the expense of the many who are wallowing in poverty.

  1. Greetings to you all.

‘The Zambia Institute of Purchasing and Supply has pledged to scale up the fight against corruption among its members in line with government’s policy of zero t o l e r a n c e to corruption.’

Good pledge, but let it not only end as a pledge. We need actual action. Start with recommendations to the MOE to revidse that syllabi for Grade 1 to 12 so much that pupils will be taught not to take pride in corruption including seeking for leakage of exam papers. The behaviour of nichekeleko has killed Zambia terribly and only school teaching will help redress that situation.

    Have a great day all.

  2. Mr kalangwa i used to supply foodstuffs to government offices and i can assure you that if you dont give those kick backs you will never ever win a tender. This has become a norm and the problem is you cannot get a blind man to lead another blind man i.e how do you fight corruption when you are corrupt in the first place. This issue is deep rooted and will take more than flesh and blood to get rid of it, anyway give it a try.

    • please expose all my corrupt dealings and i will appreciate if you also mentioned the company that i was working for.

  3. Kalangwa waikuta elyo amano yaisa. What corruption is there to fight? This has become normal. And yeah, as long as poverty persists in Africa, fighting corruption will always be a dream. But then again it`s nice to dream.

  4. it makes sad reading to see how we have lost faith in almost everything Government does. I agree with the comments given above especially that it is now fashionable to appear to be against something perceived to be a societal nuisance when in fact the nuisance is actually the one talking about it. They should tell us how they are going to do that. And those qualifications being referred to, how do they help in reducing corruption? I think they mean they should have more of a qualified cadre with an acumen of six sigma at corruption thereby possessing qualities that reduce chances of being detected as a corrupt profession.

    It is sickening mwandini. Shyaa!!!

  5. The best way to fight corruption is to improve the living standard of the people. Try to pay your works well as they will not steal from you.

  6. The disrespect for the teaching profession now apparent in Zambia is unfortunate for a developing country. Unless we as a people begin to value our teachers and produce our own educated and honest manpower, we will exist as beggars on the world stage.

  7. what corruption iwe monk? ni normal pa zed. All suppliers know you have to give in order to get. 10% minimum for every oredr so bwana what are you saying .

  8. Thanks goes to all those who took their time to comment on my speech. all your comments are welcome whether positve or negative. may i take this opportunity to assure you that we are carring out independant investigations at the mentioned companies and named supply chain professionals. may i also call upon the public to be availing us with facts as regards to corrupt practices.
may i also refer to Easy man’s comment where he said that a bind man can not lead another blind man.without beating about the bush i think he saying that iam a corrupt person, can you please expose all my corrupt dealings with all details of where i practiced those vices from.

  9. coruption is disadvantage for the poor, but an added advantage for da rich folks.
the richer get richer the poor get poor thats the order of the day

  10. Corruption z like crime u cn only reduce it to managable levels, now da corrupt people are the ones
Who are regid to change becoz they knw dat whn reduced they are goin to be broke.with a togetherness fightin spirit we cn bring it down it starts with jst u and I.looking fowad to a corupt free nation.

  11. Only very few bad eggs are destroying the reputation of the Procurement Profession. Please ZIPS/Government conduct a serious inspection of people who are not qualified but doing procurement work in public and private as these are the people who corrupt as they have no reputation to lose.

  12. Please urgently advise me how i can become a member of ZIPS, i have tried so many times by way of e-mails to register as member through on-line (Zambia Chapter) whilst in Botswana but to no avail. I am a member of CIPS – UK and now back to my home country.

  13. in order to fight corruption amongst procurement cadres institutions like zips also need to take a step in negotiating for better salaries for officers in govt and not just emphasise on corrupt free cadres.

  14. Comment: how can I be a member of zips I am a student at Evelyn Hone college doing my Advance diploma in purchasing and supplying management. Kindly advice pliz
