UNIP pledges to support NCC

Share

Opposition United National Independence Party (UNIP) Women’s League has pledged support to the National Constitutional Conference (NCC).

UNIP National Women Secretary, Beatrice Kayuni, says the NCC provides an opportunity for the country to fashion a constitution that will stand the test of time.

Speaking in an interview with ZANIS in Lusaka today, Mrs. Kayuni said the NCC Act number 19 of 2007 should be supported by all well meaning Zambians because it will particularly give chance for the Bill of Rights to be enshrined in the constitution.

She said such a piece of legislation needs to be enshrined in the republican constitution because it will guarantee the rights of vulnerable groups such as women and children.

Mrs. Kayuni said women and their rights advocates should seize the opportunity and fully participate in the formulation of the new constitution to champion the rights of vulnerable groups.

She pointed out that participation in the NCC was all inclusive as members of the public, who are not sitting on the conference, are still allowed to contribute as galleries have been provided for

Mrs. Kayuni has since called on all well-meaning Zambians to support the NCC.

  1. Which UNIP? You mean this Party still exists? i thought it fizzled away in 2006. Anyway, they can support it, after all they are so broke they probably need the money anyway. TJ cant even afford to shave

  2. #5 ala mydear ndiye po dyela donor funding.they will get very busy because of NCC they even forget kulima, ni rain season ka

  3. Iwe madam kayuni, we know you are scouting for a job and seeking recognition. where have you been all along, we have always submitted our contributions to the mvunga, mungomba, mwanakatwe commissions and recently CRC. All we are asking those on NCC is to complete this issue in 2009 rather than wasting our time and chewing our tax by unnessarily prolonging the process. we are fed up with your tricks.

  4. Time wasters. How many MPs has UNIP? Go and sleep if you have no job we tired of wasting our money over something which we know that at the end of the day it has to save its masters. From 2009 now they are seeking an extension of another year for what? 😕

  5. Do we still have UNIP in Zambia? Surprising to hear a public statement like that when it is common knowledge that this party is no more. UNIP, May Your Soul Rest in Peace.

This is the only way to go under such a GRZ. Good stuff stuff UNIP though it appears like you never wanted to part of this NCC at its inception.

They are just looking for a re- birth & to be in the spotlight, making backdoor news through Nyama Soya. atase twanaka nabo!!!
