RB inspects his farm

Share

President Rupiah Banda today inspected crop performance on his 62-hectare farm in Chipata district in Eastern Province.

Mr. Banda went to inspect the field this morning and was accompanied by his wife, Thandiwe, Tourism Minister, Catherine Namugala, and Health Permanent Secretary, Simon Miti.

The head of stated who could not state his expected yield was, however, impressed with the performance of the maize crop on his field.

The President arrived at Chipata airport this morning from Mfuwe where he is on ten-day Christmas holiday.

And his farm manager, Chibisa Banda, said the farm is expected to yield over 7,500 x 50 Kg bags of maize from the 62 hectares that have been cultivated.

President Banda was also expected to visit Luangwa house before returning to Mfuwe this afternoon.

  1. How relevant is this inspection to the nation? He could even have sent Thandi to do that while he breaks off to inspect the dormant mines or hold critical talks with investors.

  2. Ok beaten, why should ones visit to a private munda be accompanied by Government leaders. Chizongwe boys please go and plunder that maize

  3. kanshi kuli noku shunguluka, iye Tata Lesa, Mfuwe-farm, luangwa katwishi nakwisa uko, What is goin on, this man is a let down and i just pray that pipo r takin note of what is happenin so as to avoid the same mistake in 2010!

  4. This man was at his farm just last week in the company of Dr. Jacob Mwanza and a Mr. Mwenda. Did he forget to see the presidentail maize. This man has reached his etc. End of Thinking capacity

  5. Leave RB alone, I think he misses his farm so much. Where your heart is where your mind will be. At least he is leading by example as a farmer.

  6. It is not hard to see that RB enjoys rest more than work. After examining his behavior in this short time in office, I am now convinced both Sata & HH could have done better, but you Zambians ended up rejecting both. Don’t complain.
As for me, I’m satified with Angie Merkel, even though I never voted for her but she’s been delivering from day 1 in office. Bravo!

  7. Does this president have any idea what the country is going through economically for him to be galavanting to and from his holiday resort and farm with his wife and minister(s) when the average citizen is unable to even afford a decent christmas present?

Thats the lifestyle of the rich and famous when the president of a very poor African country such as Zambia takes a day off from his holiday during one of the worst recessions in recent memory just to inspect his farm when the rest of the country is on the brink of mass starvation, then you know were his heart truly lies. Him and his family are feasting on lobster and champagne when the average citizen can’t even afford Mealie Meal.

  8. This is African style Leadership leading the people Nowhere. With high Gas prices he should have stayed in Mfuwe finished his vacation then get back to serving the People of Zambia.

  9. Indeed African style Leadership leading the people Nowhere….and we are now waiting for Obama to come and clean our behinds

  10. Of course his farm is important than the 80% of Zambians living on poverty line of less than 50c a day.

What the hell have Zambians done to be treated like garbage by these so called leaders?

  11. Please tone down Goswami where are you. Your name sounds like on of those that FTJ chased for dubious dealings……..

  12. Please stop misusing GRZ money or tax payer´s on personal business. Why didn´t RB visit the mines so that he could try resolve the problem which the miners are facing.

From this we tell that he is not interested in the welfare of the Zed miners. the same applies to meale meal price as he took time to react. If people where not going to talk he would have just look it the problem.

Sad merry Christmas and poverty new year to most of the Zed families.

  13. A 62 hectares Farm is not worth talking about! This is peasant farmer scale! He should be ashaned of himself for the following reasons: (a) The maize on that farm is not even worth the cost of flying from Mfuwe. (b) Going to one’s farm is a private activity – no ministers required.
Anyway, ba Father aba naba lubana!

  14. This guy was there a couple of weeks ago on vacation with buddies, Mwenda and Mwanza, didn’t he have enough rest and didn’t he know his farm was close by?

  15. Ba LT, do you think that you can give us a site where more serious people can make some useful contributions to Zambia’s current problems?
Obviously the current site does not represent the best of Zambian brains.

  16. RB knows that he won’t be long at plot 1, hence he is making spot checks at his farm.. His legacy is short lived.. watch this space… **==l-)

  17. simine ku ndola.Iwe kapoli ngaiwe wlima ama hectre yanga? he has never boasted about being a ccommercial farmer,at least he was feeding his family before levy picked him up for vice president. What is simon miti doing accompanying the president in chipata ku holidaay, how many serious health problems does the country have.UTH for example with its power cuts, the ps has said nothing what kind. These are the people you should be sorting out Miti does nothing at all apart from finding dubious ways to enrich himself ask sata. 🙂

  18. why is the minister of tourism going to visit RB farm?
Instead of just admiring his personal achievements y not share the secrets so that there can be many more who can yield such?

  19. how relevant is mr banda’s inspection of his personal farm to the nation?he can carry out an inspection of his ass for all i care! ~:>~:>~:>

  20. Donya donya, umusalula ubi bwana.for sure you’re right there’s nothing wrong with Rb inspecting his farm, its the media making news out of no news, simple.
    :((

  21. If 62 hectares of land has been cultivated, the farm is bigger than that. The impression from the heading is that the farm is just 62 hectares. Sometimes reporting by LT is misleading.

  22. If you are not a farmer, then you wont know the importance of inspection. Just leave the old man alone, he has no life so kuyafye ku farm over the festive period. Kuya bebele next elections.

  23. we appreciate the intiative of the president in being a leader in farming. he is really leading by example. the 7500 expected harvest is quite a good example for other political leaders cropping in lusaka. at the same time i would request the president to extend his knowledge of farming in standing for the poor farmers. i know without doubt this maize is grown out loans and previliage of being presido. i was in chipata knew RB and even the girl tandi. RB never grew such maize. my cry to RB is dont be first u are now a presido. give chance to citizens and supervise their farms. a leader does not grow for himself but eats from followers which is tax. please please.

  24. We need divine interference……….
This man is not what we need for a president, isn’t he the character that has cried about him facing more challenging issues than any of the past presidents???

Bwazani should not have gone to relax at mfuwe, Bwezani should have cancelled his holiday…..

HE AT LEAST SHOULD HAVE VISITED SOME ORPHANAGE,HOSPITAL,OLD AGE HOME,DONE A LUNCH FOR STREET KIDS OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT….THAT’S WHAT PRESIDENTS DO ON BOXING DAY,bwezani, AWE MWE!!!!!!

  25. So ndiye kuti a presidente sangapiteko ku holiday? Kaili atopa ndi ma campaighn ndi maliro a Mwanawasa. If he is spending unconstitutionally on his holiday then let the opposition provide the figures- that is what they are there for. Banda is not the first president to take a holiday. Zambia has been in economic decline since the 1970s all previous presidents have also taken holidays. Sometimes people criticise for the sake of nothing better to say

  26. 😕 Ba LT manje mwasililatu. Is this news honestly.
And people please, nyama has the rights to check on his bussiness.Infact we need such farms in zambia,PLIZ don’t just seat and start commenting! Think first.

  27. Right on Peter Chipango, anyone criticising RBs holiday has nothing better to contribute.its not like he has gone to the Bahamas as someone said earlier,he’s intitled to decent holiday, wether zambia has money or not,Levy ,kachiluba and Kaunda all went for holidays better ones even.Leave the poor old man alone, let him have some peace and quiet before the new year starts with all these anticipated problems with by-elections because sata wants to show his weight.A leader who can never reconcile with his paRTY MEMBERS.

  28. 46 you are right. Infact the lodge RB is staying was built by Kaunda as a presidential retreat. Thats why its called Chichele Presidential Lodge. Mwanawasa also visited Mfuwe on a number of occassions and Livingstone too for his holidays. So whats unique with RB? He deserves a holiday jus like every1 else. Infact chiluba went to Jamaica for his holiday!!!! As for the farm, dont u think he should lead by example and do farming as well!

  29. The fact that there is division in PF is not seen by some as a problem. For me personally, it is a sign of what a Sata administration would be like. There would be no room to discuss issues as Sata would rule by decree thereby rendering parliamentary politics irrelevant.

  30. His heart belongs to “go back to land policy” and he took the GRZ officials to see for themselves a new seed called presidential maize seeds ^:)^

Viva H H man with good agriculture policy

  31. If RB wants to visit his farm with Thandy….theres absolutley nothing wrong with that. But wat am wonderin is what is the purpose of him taking Catherine Namugala and Dr. Simon Miti to look at his farm for? Is he thinkin of turning his farm into a Tourist attraction or does he intend to build a clinic there or something???? I really dont get it! :-??:-?

  32. #51 Peter any chance of you going back where you belong? Opening your gob whe you have had full english breakfast is not a very good idea if your cousin in Matero did not have a meal the past two days.

Ho Ho Ho. Go back and leave my country alone! :d

  33. Blogger s let us reason be4 comment uncontrollably..How many times did we see the Late Ba Mwine LPM SC inspect his bananas at teka farms,if he hadnt told us we wouldnt have known that he personally directed ZESCO to take power to Ndola rural because his quails and poultry needed it for heating purposes..The last i remember was when his manager was informing him that he would reap over “2 tonnes” of maize. How come Sleepy Dadi takes a break off and it creates pandemonium. 😕

  34. father christmas,i bet u are an oceanic individual..if u yourself were in the same position as RBB,fat, old and fatigued i guess u would go on holiday but coz chiwamila galu,u complain….If i had the capacity to do what RBB has done i would do worse believe me,i would even get my wifes grandmother on holiday.

  35. #65 Reason I said mind of an African. This is reason why Africa will always be Africa. Beautiful climate. Nice smiling people even if they have not had a meal for 5 days.

My old 85year old neighbour went to prison for not paying council tax because she thought it was way too much when the council decided to increase it`s tax. Not because she could not afford. I am talking about an 85 year old, whose has got a three bedroomed bangalow, about £250 000 in savings and gets pension.

An African wouldn`t do it would they?

  36. THE BEMBAS SAY UKULINGANYA AMAPULI KULAPONWESHA.JUST BECOZ BA LEVY USED TO GO KU TEKA FARM EVEN HIM WANTS TO DO THE SAME.BA LEVY USED TO GO KU FARM WEN THINGS WERE NOT THIS BAD RB WAKE UP AND SHOW DIRECTION DURING TIHS TRYING MOMENT

  37. this is wat zambians wanted.a president who does not care.what holiday, wen mases are suffering,am disappointed with this man.honestly zambians hw do u give presidency to some one who does not think properly.some of us made noise about hh and sata being given chance u thot we were arrogant, hes such a let down.May God deliver Zambia:((

  38. We r not interested in dat farm ok,bcoz he iz not de only one who has got a farm. And yu reporters its lyk u hv got nothin 2tel de pipo?Let 2011come u c.And u also LEADERS u dont kwn yo duties or wht,hw cn u imagine accompany somebody whose goin in his own business,do u hv also a farm in chipata?WATCH OUT PIPO.

  39. #72 Eagle Serious kalifuma nokufuma. She is a very fit 85 year old. Laughs about it up to now. She was sent in for 4 weeks.

  40. I think this man is taking this job as if it were just another civil service job! inspecting the farm when we have national and global issues affecting the people of Zambia, what a load of rubbish!

  41. what did you expect??????!!!!!!!!!!! all those of you who voted for him.Thats what you get when you bring in recycled politicians. Like we say here in thailand “som nom na!” ( translated you got what you deserve).Vote wisely in the next elections. Give guys like HH a chance; not these recyled old Kk wanna-bes. Happy new year my fellow countrymen! May God bless mother zambia and may we all prosper and thrive in adversity.

  42. Mwamona guys ichimuntu ichi? People have no jobs, no food and yet he is busy putting personal interest first. We can’t wait for 2011 apa pena.

  43. Ba Ras Rated yes we agree with your statement that many people have farms, but how many of them have image builders like Thandiwe and Bwezani ‘FEDRAL’ Banda?

Father Christmas, are u honestly telling me this old Horse spent 4 weeks inside, has 250,000Quid in savings and a bungalow.imo the old horse defeated the law,but did she pay anything when she was released….85 year old goes in,Ba dadi ba Samuel Musonda is still wasting time outside, appealing. This makes me wonder if these people we had entrusted wit our lives ever cared about our well being or they just spent anyhow.ala yabu chushi

  44. This headline is misleading. LPM used to go to Teka farm in Ndola for his holiday and it was never reported as ‘inspecting’ his farm. He used to fly to Teka, land at Ndola airport, talk to party cadres and then be driven in a police convoy to his farm. That was not news. Chiluba did the same at Kabelenga house and so did Kaunda at Shambalakale (but prefered Mfuwe to Chinsali). A head of state is never really ‘on holiday’ and ‘personal business.’ Do we expect the head of state to come to London on BA flight, self-paid economy ticket and land at Heathrow without anyone to receive him because he is on a private holiday?

  45. Poor farm management from the head of state. How can 62 hectres (155 Acres)produce only 75 hundred x 50 kilos of maize (Corn)?.

  46. TO ALL THOSE WHO ARE INSULTING HIS EXCELLENCY THE PRESIDENT RUPIAH BWEZANI BANDAON THIS BLOG, BE WARNED THAT WE ARE GOING TO CATCH UP WITH YOU AND FOR SURE YOU WILL REGRET THE REST OF YOUR LIVES. REMEMBER INSULTING THE PRESIDENT IS CRIMINAL.

  47. RB is leading by example. Hard work in agriculture if we are to diversdsify the economy. Stop over reiance on copper. SATA must learn from RB. Go and do some farming instead of talking and Chiluba must also learn.

  48. “Mr. Banda went to inspect the field this morning and was accompanied by his wife, Thandiwe, Tourism Minister, Catherine Namugala, and Health Permanent Secretary, Simon Miti.”

I hope those Ministers mentioned went to President RBB’s farm in their personal capacities and vehicles. Otherwise, was there a tourism country matter and a health National one to be carried out at that farm?

  49. Awe shua…
You silly people back in Zed allowed this to happen so now we all have to pay the price whether you live in Zed or not.

How can you allow the economy to de-stabilise? The $-ZMK rate is crazy!
How can you elect a man who’s just waiting for a state funeral?
How can you vote for a man who sleeps most of the time?
How can you vote for a man who has no idea what is happening to copper prices on the LME?
How can you vote for a man who’s got no idea people are loosing jobs on the copperbelt?
How can you vote for a man who defiled a young gal old enough to be his grand-daughter?
How can you vote for a man with no presedential qualities?

No wonder our country is fcuked up

  50. proudly zambian you have no sense at all.ask anybody kuma banks they will tell you that the kwacha always goes crazy end of the yaer till about feb.Nothing to do with Rb.Kanshi why don’t you people offer solutions instead of just critisicing all the time.yes the country is fcuked because all you do is not offer workable solutions but just talk, talk.where were you when people were voting,if you really did not want Rb you could have helped not campaign for him so,for now funga kinwa and just observe.for your own information hard working people in zambia are comfortable. And you should be encouraging people to go into agriculture, not relying on the mines only.we cant decide copper prices.

  51. Thats why africans will never develop, what type of nonsense is this:-[-x[-x.If there is a continent which wastes public funds africa number 1.Someone goes for holiday govt paid, ontop of that he starts garavanting ku ma personal farm -no zambian will even benefit from those farms. The waste choice of presido in zambian history.

  52. THOSE OF YOU WHO HAVE NO INFROMATION WILL DEFINITELY THINK RB IS A GENIUS GOING BY THE EXPECTED OUTPUT-7500 BAGS!WELL,JUST LIKE LPM,IAM SURE COMPANIES LIKE AMIRAN ARE GIVING HIM INPUTS AT VERY LOW PRICES LIKE THEY DID FOR TEKA FARMS.AT THE END OF THE DAY THE PRESIDENTS LOOK LIKE VERY SERIOUS FARMERS.LETS GO AND SEE THE FARMS AFTER THEY ARE OUT OF POWER.WATCH THIS SPACE…

  53. Until we learn the value of experience, we will always end up with people like Nyama Soya. Firstly, he allows a woman who rents his house to landscape State House for free. Does that not create conflict of interest? Is the woman doing that to setup Nyama Soya for presidential favors? Secondly, he goes to Mfuwe at the time when miners in Luanshya can not afford a place of rice and a small chicken for Christmas. While he is there, he burns more jet fuel at taxpayers expense to go visit a farm he had been to just days earlier. This man has no idea what he is doing and the next three years will be full of drama. Stay tuned!

  54. Zambians you will never stop to amase me you had the chance of removing RB and the MMD in power but you failed how can sata with all his senses go to a poor villager in chama and insult them with vimbuya vake and expects that villager to vote 4 him, munaitaya mweka, now stop those fake talks u irritate me.#87 any gal above 18 can marry any age even 200yrs old man.mind u aman is neva old until the day he wil die. talk about serious issues and we all know them.its high time you stop critising and offer solutions.the more u talk the more his enjoying :x:x:x:x:x:x:x:x
