70 houses Collapse in Kitwe

Share

More than 70 houses have collapsed in seven compounds in Kitwe following heavy rains experienced in the past one month.

Kitwe council public relations manager Francis Wasamunu who has confirmed the development ZANIS in Kitwe today said many people have been left homeless and were sharing accommodation with their relatives within the compounds.

The six affected compounds include Chipata where 26 houses collapsed , Kamatipa 8, Ipusukilo 8, st. Anothony 6, Nkadambwe 7.

He explained that the council has not yet recorded any collapsed houses in Kawama, Mulenga, Zambia compound and kakolo.

And Mr. Wasamunu said the council this morning moved and demolished several illegal structures in Ndeke village, Mukuba-natwange and Wusakile townships.

He warned that the council will raze down any structure build on illegally acquired land.

And In Kasama, heavy rains have damaged a school in Chief Katuta’s area in Luwingu District, leaving scores of pupils stranded as they do not have classes to use for lessons.

Mushinga ward Councillor Ken Mulenga confirmed the development in an interview with ZANIS in Kasama yesterday.

Mr. Mulenga said a 1 by 3 classroom block collapsed last week at Chambo Middle Basic School following a heavy downpour.

He said as a result the Grade seven pupils, who were using the classroom block, are now crowded in limited classes at the school.

Mr. Mulenga added that some pupils in the lower grades have been asked to stay away from school when it is raining in order to avoid unforeseen calamites.

The Ward Councillor further revealed some grass-thatched community schools have also been damaged by rains in Chief’s Katuta’s area.

Mr. Mulenga has since appealed to Ministry of Education to assist authorities at Chambo Middle Basic School in re-constructing the collapsed classroom block so that pupils could continue with education.

Meanwhile, a road from Musele in Chief Katuta’s area leading to Kaputa has been badly damaged by heavy rains.

The development has resulted in education authorities in Luwingu District failing to access the damaged schools due to the poor state of the road.

  4. Can you imagine how far the $1 million Chiluba spent on his high heals and dwarf suits would go to help these shanty compounds ?

    If FTJ dodges prison shakabwele!!

  5. Ba Moze naimwe. Some of these people don’t even know what it feels like to take a shower because they haven’t taken one in their life. Lets not add impiripiri to an already salted injury. Tulekwatako uluse bane. [-(

Uluse twalikwata. But what am saying is true. Do you know that research has shown that when you are dreaming that you are having a lovable pee, you are actually wetting your bed??
I sympathise with them but am only being realistic here.

  7. Well, to be more realistic then, ba Moze, they might as well have been dreaming that they have been caught in a heavy down pour.

  8. **==**==

Ba Moze am sure your research is a true one. pretty sure yu had such dreams to prove the research. Any way pa zed we luck town planners and engineers. all of you guys have run away to foreign contries and no one is there to advise on how to build a strong building. if you were to go KuKapoto mu kitwe you will be sorry. am surprised kapoto was not affected.
LT, in para 7. it should have been Northern Province and not Kasama. Luwingu district is in Northern Province and not KAsama.

  9. Getting wet if you have not asked for it is Bad!!

Anyway rains are good for Plants. As for humans just figure out how you can also make it useful for you. I personally see nothing wrong with heavy rains especially for Africa :d

Hi. You see, sometimes blaming the rain is not fair, ka? We need this rain. Its just that utumayanda ba panga! Tatwakosa mudala. Chabipa but….anyway…….what can we do? So chabe. [-(

  11. The Government should do more to ensure the Meteorological Department is well funded to enable the the Department put up Meteorological Stations in most of our Zambian towns so that they could be able to issue warnings to people in flood prone areas to avoid such disasters as is a very regrettable development to say the least. What makes me say so is because the whole of Kitwe town if anything has no weather station. How then can we develop like that if I may ask.

  12. #4 it`s because they cant afford to buy the expensive building material,am sure if they had the money they can build strong houses to leave for there children`s children

I agree with you , we need the rain.

these pipo need to know that the world is now changing and so is the weather.

They must adopt new was of building houses, roads etc, you can tblem it on the rain.
Bulid you home on a strong foundation .

  14. This is what happens when you get combon brick layers to build your house instead of trained people. People in shanty’s build their own bricks from red clay instead of proper cement.

  15. Use the remainder of the looted money this FTJ is claiming to rebuild those structures. if you don’t, i’ll commit suicide
