Malawi should grow more food to feed us and vise versa-RB

Share

Zambia and Malawi have renewed their commitment to work together in developing the economies of the two countries.

President Banda said he and his Malawian counterpart Dr. Bingu Wa Mutharika have agreed on various developmental issues which need urgent implementation for the benefit of the two countries.

The two leaders agreed that priority should be given to infrastructure development such as roads, telecommunication and electricity which they emphasized should be achieved as soon as possible to better the lives of the people in the two countries.

President Banda also stressed the need for the two countries to grow more food so that they help each other in times of poor harvests by one of them.

“It is important that Malawians grow more food to feed us and vise versa in times of food deficit,” he said.
This was said at a joint news conference yesterday to mark the end of his two-day official visit to Malawi.

President Banda said the concerned technocrats and ministers have to work hard in translating the resolutions of the two heads of state into tangible results in order to speed up development in the two neighbouring countries.

On the closure of some companies and resultant job losses, President Banda said Zambians should understand that this is not a fault of government as the problem is a result of the on-going economic crisis which has engulfed the whole world.

He called on Zambians to be prudent and be less extravagant in the wake of the current economic challenges.

The President said the late President Mwanawasa had succeeded in attracting huge investment in the mining industry which helped rekindle the growth of the country’s economy.

Unfortunately, the current global crisis has reversed the positive economic strides with the country losing up to 60 per cent of revenue from copper.

But government is working hard to see to it that where jobs have been lost, alternative ways are found to keep the people in employment.

The President disclosed that to this effect, government has found an investor wishing to take over Luanshya Copper Mines which has been placed under care and maintenance with thousands of workers laid off.

But he said long term solutions lie in he diversification of the country’s economy from dependence on cooper to other sectors such as tourism, manufacturing and agriculture.

Earlier, President Banda visited the Mausoleum located in Lilongwe City centre where Malawian founding President, the late Dr. Hastings Kamuzu Banda is buried.

President Banda was accompanied to the Mausoleum by Foreign affairs Minister, Kabinga Pande, Transport and Communications Minister Dora Siliya, Energy and Water Development Minister, Kenneth Konga, Political Advisor Akashambatwa Mbikusita Lewanika, Zambia’s High Commissioner to Malawi Joshua Simuyandi and other Zambian and Malawian government officials.

He laid a wreath on the grave of the late Kamuzu Banda and later signed a visitor’s book against a backdrop of solemn music by the Malawi defence force brass band.

He said he was deeply touched by what the people and government of Malawi have done by erecting a mausoleum in honor of their late founding President.

President Banda said government wishes to replicate the same on the late President Mwanawasa’s grave at the Embassy Park in Lusaka.

President Banda has since returned home after a two-day official visit to Malawi.

He was seen off at Kamuzu International airport by his host, Dr. Wa Mutarika and scores of enthusiastic Malawian and Zambian nationals.

  4. Ha ha ha ha!!!!but RB balasekesha.instead of Zambia growing more food,he wants Malawi to grow more food.Katwishi eko tuleya, only God knows…..

  5. Ha ha ha ha!Ba RB sure,y dont we grow more food to feed Malawi ourselves.i wonder where we are heading with such sentiments.

  6. RB is not normal it is just few days ago when he said Zed should sell and feed neighbors especially Zim, now he is asking Malawian citizens to grow more crops and feed Zed.
Now i find it difficult to judge the Zed presdo RB72 if he is the promised saver or a man from Hell to starve Zedian.:((

Viva H H man who will deliver Zed one day

  7. You don’t need to go to Malawi to talk about how much food you are suppose to grow. Do it and then the Malawians can copy if they want. Infact the Malawians are big time famers, so don’t disturb them. Iam abit worried at the rate you are travelling, isn’t it costly considering the financial crunch in the world?

  8. Don’t start wasting money on Levy’s grave. You spent alot on his fineral. Mr.RB you are a joker. We want to hear the alternatives your govt has put in place to those who have lost there jobs.

So Mr.RB, Where are you going this weekend?

  9. Malawi is a small country. They don’t have enough land to grow food for us.Just recapitalize NCZ please and stop talking rot.:o

  10. Iwe Livingstone, HH has to deliver himself first by starting to think str8 before he can think of delivering Zedians. He’s got a lot to do to win an election in Zambia. VIVA SATA. 2011 remarch SATA vs NYAMA SOYA. HH vs MIYANDA/NGONDO supporting bout.

  11. RB,

First it was Ethopia, then Tanzania now Malawi.
Is it because you cant think for yourself, needs other to do the thinking 4 him,
    Shame

We can grow and feed the whole of Southern africa,

As Obama says, yes we can.

  12. Goodmorning Ba Dr. Maureen, Baby C, G Baby, Sister, Ba Honey na bonse, muli shani lelo? Me, I’m fine.

Well, I think even a grade l-) could have said what RB has said.

  13. 29. Nine Chale

Iwe I have a feeling RB is calling for the Federation of Northern Rhodesia !

zim, zed and Nyasaland!! This is how this tastes!!

  14. What type of a President do we have who is busy admiring burial sites? And whenever he speaks with other leaders there is a tone of begging. Shikulu sit in your office and be practical. Our economy is in a mess. If you need ideas send your ministers to do some research for you. Dont waste money and time visiting countries of less benefit. Think before you travel. And since you came into power you have been talking about this and that project. Please start working we need results not promises. We have heard enough………

  15. Imagine Malawi asking Zed to grow more food to feed them? 😕

Wait a minute!! This is actually malawi speaking through RB!!

    I smell a RAT!!

  16. I think we had Leadership Crisis in Zambia. What is happening?,& why do we accept this nonsence?.Can someone close to RB tell him that he is embezzling funds with his endless trips?.Within 3mothns of being in Office,he has done nothing other than holidays in Mfuwe and his travels to Nigeria,Libya,Ethiopa,Tanzania,Kenya,Malawi,South Africa,Burundi & Zim.Is this Man thinking, really?

  17. It is going to be Malawi feed zambia and zambia feed Zimbabwe.
He was suppose to ask Malawi to help zimbabwe together with Zambia.

  18. I think this is a good statement by the president in order to encourage the much needed cross-border trade which will help cushion the effects of the global financial crisis.

I think in order for this to work, we must specialize and I hope the two heads of state agreed on an agreement on specialization.

Malawi can grow Cassava, Wheat, Tea and Fish whereas Zambia can grow Maize, Rice, Rubber and Cattle. The two can then export to each other so as to fill the shortages in the grains they dont have (Zambia exports what it has to Malawi and vice-versa) and this would most definitely benefit the two nations greatly.

  19. **== Iam failing to understand this man. Kwati ukubuta kwachila. Do these people ever get to learn how other leaders are making it in their countries? Does this man care about the welfare of Zambians? RB seems not to know what being a president is.

  20. Next month RB will be travelling to the USA for a graduating ceremony being awarded a Degree with a Distinction:d/ in History and Democracy for African Countries^:)^ :d
Accompanying him are six ministers form various ministries and wife Thandi**==
    Congratulations Mr. President=d>

  21. The stagnation of the mind exhibited by some leaves much to be desired. How on earth would someone suggest that SATA should stand in 2011. To try and comprehend the motive behind such a suggestion is honestly to attempt, to pretend, to assume to be insane and living in cuckoo land. Anyway this is a place for all kind of dreamers. We certainly have different eyes and senses. Some have even attempted to compare SATA to OBAMA – THE JOKE OF THE MILLENIUM

  22. But on the other hand, it is evidently clear that Dagga smokers are many and this easily explains this situation. Like begets like. HORRIBULAS (SATA) IS A SAINT TO DAGGA SMOKERS.

  23. I think ni bana RB thats makes these decisions and pass them over to hubby coz i dont think a grown man can be making such silly decisions day in and out.

Yes just what do you have planned for Luanshya,?? he makes such general statements it doesnt carry any weight.

    DOES HE HAVE A PLANE???

  24. Every time RB opens his mouth, one thing becomes more and more clear…he has no clue of what he should do to develop Zambia. Am now thinking that all these trips he is taking, he is trying to copy what others are doing.

#50 Mrs Phiri…you can say that again! am wondering what those who voted for him are now thinking!!

  25. lekeni Banda ateke…ne clock yende. u people the watch has been static for long RB wants it to move. now that its moving u re complaining and insulting the man. ni cloko at work. moving the clock never stops until battery yasila. iyi ya banda niya rewind so he is back pa zed rewinding. ikakuta uyo kaya next nikuti…the hour has come :d/:d/:d/:d/:d/:d/:d/:d/:d/:d/

  26. #50 Mrs Phiri is right, Zambians asked for it! It’s not like they had no other choice, PF & UNPD were also there but they chose MMD/UNIP again. So stop complaining, just bend over and get your lashing!:d

As for us who are observing from afar, it only hurts to see our country being driven by federal politicians despite so many other potential leaders.
I would advise RB to take the 1st jet to Germany and enroll in The European school of leadership and economic tacticalysis instead of globe trotting on national visits!

  27. 54. Miss Daisy

    RB is confused,
He thinks he works for the Ministry of tourism.
Please tell him , he is running the country .

  28. #51, 53 Anonymous, I share your agonies…I equally do not understand how in all decency, someone would think or relacing RB with Sata…isnt that replacing one dead wood for another???? If you want to know why Zambia will always be poor, you just have to see how they decide on who should lead them!!!

  29. I find it easy to understand in certain specific context the twisting and bending of facts in which case results in opinions being construed as facts. Similar to the effects of Opium.

Excited to dearth, they weave an euphoria formed out of nothing and urge each other on. Someone is surely jumping off the 17th floor.

  30. 62. Baby C

    Just look at RBs Suit,

  35. RUPIAH DOESNT HAVE ANY PLANS 4 ZAMBIA..THATS WHY U OWAYS SEE HIM VISITING…ONE WONDAZ WHAT HIS SO-CALLED ADVISORZ DO…BY THE TIME WE GET 2 2011 ZAMBIA WILL IN A MORE SORRY STATE THAN IT IS IN AT THE MOMENT.

  36. Mwapoleni bonse mukwai?

Missing you all guys.Ine amatontokanyo fye,I cant even concentrate namu class. :-j:-j:-j:-j:-j

  37. Nothing of substance comes out of RB’s mouth. I wonder why. I also wonder how much Maize will come from his farm.
In case I forget, happy valentines to all our female bloggers. All you monks can go to hell……

  38. SOON HE WILL BE DR. R.B BANDA. I HEAR HE IS PURSUING A DOCTORATE IN TRAVEL AND TOURISM 4 A CHINESE UNIVERSITY AND TRAVELING AROUND THE WORLD IS A PARTIAL FULFILLMENT 2 HIS DOCTORATE. HIS THESIS IS ON: MY TRAVEL EXPERIENCES IN AFRICA AND BEYOND; THE R.B EXPERIENCE.

  39. The more statements our president make…the more disappointing he has become. He sounds very dumb. I am still yet to hear something developmental come out of his mouth. And LT, the title for this story has been exaggerated. No where in the story did i find a direct quotation from banda say “malawi grow more food to feed Zambians.”

  40. What is all this bleeting noise in my ears, the sheep all excited?products of SATA’s sexual escapedes, the product of his loins sure to nature? His adventures have managed an effect,a ransom for an impossible debt. But alas these are the lesser species incapable of the high privileges accorded to kings. Here comes the bubble buster, behold.

  41. #51/53 Anonymous and #61 Engine

So who do you think would be the best president for Zambia?

I hope you wont say HH. Looking at HH’s performance at the last elections…..I dont know. Let UPND change their attitude

Personally last presidential candidates were the worst in the history of elections in Zambia. None of them impressed me that much. Two of them were ancient, one was too tribal and the other one was just a ghost.

I’m hoping for fresh candidates from all parties. Maybe one of them will be heaven sent.

All the political leaders, as at today……are fake and useless

  42. By the way, Banda is not form the east because he is an embarassment to the easterners. I think he is from Zimbabwe. I know easterners to be wise people but not him please.

  43. kaya, before chosing a leader check is house hold first.Banda has great grand children with his grand child what do u expect?

  44. Ladies and gentlemen, does it mean Zambia has no young people to be presidents. We can’t accept to be ruled by finished politicians and expect new technology in managing the country. I wish there was a disease that can wipe all finished politicians – VJ, RB, Teta, Mulongoti,Sondanshi, Mabenga, etc so that we start with new blood and new / modern technology. We can’t have a president who says I have reduced petrol when the reduction is on wolrd market.

  45. Has Rb known today that Kamuzu Banda is dead for to behave like that? Just put proper agricultural policies and grow more food for Zambians. Not what you are saying,ya uyu mudala awe sure. The new Vasco dagama is here.

  46. Malawi should grow more food to feed Zambia and vise versa.
(vise versa – meaning and the other way round as well)
Zambia should grow more food to feed Malawi.

  47. Mr Presido, You should give reasons why Malawi should feed you. You cant just say a senseless statment like that. On what grounds should Malawans just wake up and think of growing food to feed Zambia??. Even if this meant trading with us, it was poorly constructed. You could have said supply. Ok what economical language is feeding ????. That is the reason you guys think that you are Kings instead of president. Language problem may be?????

  48. Coming to think of it, since being in government (as President) RUPIAH BANDA has hardly said or done anything substantial. kind of makes you wonder were we as a country are herding to. Very sad ne? 8->

  49. This thing of being Presido is not just for funny. Thia is the reason people want a popular presido, one with 50+1. You are going to have trouble through and through??. The fact is people will always resent anything you do. The best thing to do is to just use common sense and follow what people want! People just want simple facts. Be on their side, stop spending unnecessarily when they are suffering. Follow Presido Mwanawasa!

  50. Q. What I am I doing in the picture?
    A. You are SLEEP WAILKING.

    Correct thats the correct answer.

    Q. What are my other names?
    A. Bbwezani Corruption, Bbwezani GMO, Bwezani Njala, Nyama Soya.

Again correct! You are very intelligent girl.

  51. WHEN IS HE GOING TO CONGO I THINK THEY NEED HIM THERE AS WELL. ZAMBIA IS SIX TIMES BIG THAN MALAWI INTERMS OF LAND AND THEN WE ARE GOING TO BE ASKING THEM TO HELP US FEED US?????? :-w

  52. Goodafternoon, Hope you all enjoyed your like I did.

What ? Malawi should grow more food to feed us and vise versa – RB. Napapata ba RB what are you talking about. No story ba RB what a shame. These things are not said once back home you only hear that this and that was said. Practise what you preach baba

  53. People understand your Prezdo. He is saying malawi exports maize no money involved. FRA counts the bags. Zambia exports the maize to Malawi. Vice Versa.

  54. Simple economics. Malawi exports maize to Zambia. We count the bags. We export maize to Malawi. They counts the bags. No money. Brilliant!!!

  55. #87 Hie from nowere coz is from malawi too, zambians lets not forget they all came from somewere only the (lete) but anway we are one lets go go fwd with our prays napapata shuare mwa. 😕

  56. Honestly, what has become of this man? I wonder whether his thinking capacity is normal. I think he needs a check up at morning side clinic.

  57. Unless someone explains and simplifys the statement to its skeleton using DAGGA/CANNABIS balls for illustration, they will not understand it. :d

  58. Honestly, what has become of this man? I wonder whether his thinking capacity is normal. I think he needs a check up at morning side clinic. =[p;=plpoplopl=l=l;=p=;p

  59. “The two leaders agreed that priority should be given to infrastructure development such as roads, telecommunication and electricity which they emphasized should be achieved as soon as possible to better the lives of the people in the two countries.”
Good stuff, but I hope President RB Banda is not scheming to develop only Eastern Province where he hails from just as an excuse by claiming that he satisfying the Malawians in this road, telecom. and electrity infrastructure development agreement with his Malawian President.
Mr President RB Banda could you please start touring all Provinces of Zambia and re-explain your development plans to these areas than wasting money in abroad tours.

  60. I am still wondering if he only went to Malawi to talk about feeding each other and to Tanzania to talk about Tazara, doesn’t he have people to send to atted to such trivial issues?. How much did the trips cost us? Awe sure this is madness.

  61. Otherwise, VIVA and VOTE for the UPND Team (U-Team) to form Zambian government in 2011 because its manifesto’s outlined policies provide sensible programmes to move all Zambians of all backgrounds to economic independence in the first 5 years of its reigning Zambia.

This package comes with a small 15 member Cabinet to run Zambia, improves salaries for Civil Servants by ABOUT 100%, bring piped clean water to each house in Zambia, etc, according to the campaigns by president HH and his team in the 2008 presidential by-elections.

  62. Does RB know of carbon footprint?I hope someone puts petrol in his jet by mistake instead of A1 jet fuel then it will be bye bye R.B from 20,000ft.RB reminds me of certian people hear.Always visiting other peoples houses but never hosting guests because of being embarrased about their home.Which leader would come to Zambia apart from Bob Mugabe and Savimbi..

  63. You see we are kind and indeed extra benevolent as to extend oportunity to the previously disadvantanged, those lacking basic literacy skills. And for this we are insulted and maliciously and deliberately misconstrued in our endeavours to exercise our magnificent gift, benevolence! We are yet to perfect our art though, so as to be able to graciously condenscend our intentions to be best understood by those long in fetters of ignorance.

  64. Uh, RBB is right. In times of calamity in any of the coutries, remedy should be near and rightly available. RBB didnot mention anything on the Muchinji Railline. Has he abandoned the project?

  65. On closer examination I have concluded that this is a blogg dominated by juveniles who know very little.

What Rupia said in Malawi is called DIPLOMACY. (and Rupia was trained in Diplomacy in Ethiopia). You can not go to a foreign country as President of another country and say “We will grow food to feed you” This would be taken as an insult. You say “Let us develop agriculture for the benefit of our two countries”

It is not Rupia who will kill our country but the ignorance of people who know little but think they know it all.

  66. :
am not for bwezani i can never be for him Comments on “ Malawi should grow more food to feed us and vise versa-RB ” the key word is VISE VERSA before commenting pay attention to what you are readying its important

  67. Bwezani is from Malawi and Zambia Vice Verse!!! Ha! After all Chipate is closer to Malawi than Lusaka is. Vice Verse!!

  68. # 23Dr.NSASHICHITUKABALASHI you sound like you want a date with him. Wish you luck cant think of the boredom with what he has to say to you ha ha ha…..

  69. #125 Kwasha, It is difficult to know what RB discussed in Malawi because it really depends on what the Media chose to report.

But I would understand if he didn’t touch the issue of the Muchinji Railway because the ball is really in Zambia’s court to complete laying the track up to Chipata.

  70. #127 and 130 namunfulunganya, surely can he go all the way just to show diplomacy on obvious things. Who doesnt know that agriculture is the only answer to failed copper.
in his diplomacy could have also meant Malawians please grow more food to feed us who knowas in this case?

  71. God speed the day when basic literacy will be extended to all. Then perhaps our agonies will be less when such topics are discussed.

  72. #120 Maestro, I agree RB has to intensify his visits to the provinces. His win was very slim and it behoves him to establish personal contactwith all parts of Zambia so that the people can begin to relate to him.

He started his first visit with Northern Province. He should visit Southern, Copperbelt and Luapula in order to address the political polarisation of the country.

As you might know, Rupia is a Chewa on his father side but there are more Chewas in Mozambique and Malawi in that order. It is not likely to affect his decisions. If he wishes to contest again, the target should be Southern.

  73. Is RB for real? Just what is he up to next? I give up! Everything he does and utters makes me cringe with embarrassment.

  74. If using that visa versa phrase meant dilopmatically saying Zambia will feed Malawi, which is very possible, b coz Zambia has vast land, then what this govt needs is to priotize agri in this nation. Zambia can grow enough to feed most of our neighbouring nations, except that there’s no seriousness on the part of our govt. This year again this country will face shortages of maize b coz the 50pin fertilizer did not reach most poor farmers. RB knows this and he went to Malawi to beg in advance. The wheather in Zambia and Malawi are similar, and the yeilds shud not differ. /:)

  75. Until very recently, I had taken for granted the invaluable benefit of basic literacy, reading and writing skills. What may be obvious on the surface may be the cause of confusion for a semi litrate person. The task of correcting and guiding a person at fault and who at the same time is unable to clearly communicate his side of the point is not an easy one. More so when dealing with mass numbers.

  76. I have been forced to say something here due to the lack of understanding of simple english by the majority of the bloggers. what do you guys understand by vise versa?
The story is not saying Malawi should grow more food to feed zed period. it is saying likewise zed should grow more food! it further says that in case one has supplus while the other has shortage, the one with suplus can feed one with shortage! i wonder if most of you past your grade twelve english exam. no wonder this country is in a mess. if people who are even blogging can show such level of ignorance!!!!!!:-?

  77. 137 Kays, If there is something that we should be proud of it is that we have press freedom in Zambia. RB does not control the press. So a media agency can quote him any way they want and RB can do nothing about it.

So, one can not tell wether he used the phrase vice versa unless you see a clip on TV. But this is a free country and some times they even report what he didn’t say. It takes two years to prosecute a libel case in our country. Have you tried suing a newspaper for libel? You will eventually give up because it takes so long.

  78. people we tried people from northen province to rule us,but they started stealing our money, mwanawasa tried,we try the easterners now but they have proved to us that they are so kupwalala, kupwalala bad banyama.maybe next we try the northwesterners or westerners.coz this president doesnt know why he was elected,i know people from eastern who are intelligent but coz of this bwezani i will start thinking negatively about them

  79. this is meritocracy to the fullest, asking malawi to feed Zambia, and he is calling himself the Zambian President, we are in leadership crisis in Zambia and if not careful we will worse off than a country that has been experiencing Civil war whilst in fact we have peace (if that is what we define peace)
well deliver us from such nonsensical leaders if progress will be achieved
    Malawi ……. of all places

  80. #138 Cont’d

It is painstakingly difficult to face the embarrasment of a country with large numbers of illitrate youths robbed of their basic right.

Many have attempted by their own device and effort to prop up their literacy levels, a welcome development and relief however small.

Many have still remained hopelessly behind, whose best attempt at literacy is inform of chants of Pabwato Pabwato hardly capable of going beyond this pathetic display of ignorance.

  81. Enough of this presidents is embarrassing speeches .I thought presidents had speech writers and advisers?. this man will go down in history as the biggest presidential crowns so far in africa. Malawi feeding us? before that it USA? mauseuleum for mwanawasa? then i wonder what its gonna be for KK.! God knows what will be the next funny utterances.the sad thing is that this guy is supposed too be educated. is it old age or what?

  82. 127. NKOLE WA MAPEMBWE, I agree with you. Where did all the adults with sensible blogs go???? Reading the comments on this blog, one cant avoid to think that Zambia is an unfortunate country. If people in their 20s 30s 40s who are supposed to be at the peak of their inteligence can reason in the way am seing on this blog of late, then my towel is right in my hands ready to be throne!

  83. 143. Anonymous, I wish you had a definate id, your posts seem to suggest that you are an inteligent and well balanced person. Indeed what a waste of national resources to educate a lot who cant go beyond their pathetic display of ignorance and may I add that and imapaired bias devoid of any trace of analysis!!!!

  84. #139 Thandiwe Banda. I dont thing you also passed Geography grade 12 with your Bwezani, take a look at the map. Malawi is a small country swallowed half by the lake. Compared to the vast land of Zambia can your Bwezani honestly be asking Malawi to feed us? Tell him to use his own Zambian land to feed Malawi fullustop.

  85. #127(Nkole Wa Mpembwe)

Good observation. This blog has been dominated by people who are childish and claim to be educated and yet fail to see logic in something sensible.busy criticising without putting forth the way forwrad(typical arm chair critics).no wonder sensible bloggers are all gone.

  86. Those of you who were busy saying atlist RB is more exprienced than HH, this is the experience we wanted. someone who cann’t even say what he intends to do for our country. HH might not be exprienced but, would have done better than RB for sure.

  87. The price for meal mealie has been reduced but there is no single bag in shops and if there is then long queues are there.Could this be a reason why our great P asked malawi to feed us? Or he wants to take us to UNIP days? You are beta than this please. 😕

  88. #155 Me

Please, dont take it as an insult. Tap the shoulder of the nearest adult and request for help. You can then resubmit your suggestion/comment.

I hope this is in order.

  89. The President said the late President Mwanawasa had succeeded in attracting huge investment in the mining industry which helped rekindle the growth of the country’s economy.

Unfortunately, the current global crisis has reversed the positive economic strides with the country losing up to 60 per cent of revenue from copper.

I wonder how that is possible.. Oh I remember, just showing activity is not the same as being productive. While the pillaging of Zambia at $4bn per year was counted as ‘GDP’, it was not the same as taxation or reinvestment in the economy, because all the profits were in foreign hands and the development agreements exempted the foreign miners from tax.

  90. ‘Malawi should grow more food to feed us and vise versa-RB’ …bollocks…. Zambia should, by any means be self- reliant. Malawi is way smaller than Zambia geographically and if anything Zambia should invest in farming and become the bread basket of sub sahara.:-w

” UK and other countries are nationalising govt.Companies repuadiating from privatisation whilst ZED is embracing the former(being privatisation). ”

They are clinging onto a philosophy, neoliberalism, whose intent they don’t understand, but has been very profitable for them in selfenrichment. How much money has changed hands to get the development agreements signed?

Even the Finance Minister affirmed his faith in ‘free markets’, even as deregulation has shown what a catalist it is in the destruction of the economy.

What happens is that neoliberalism hollows out economies to such an extent, that ordinary downturns in the business cycle…

  95. become recessions and depressions.

If you hollow out demand (worker’s wages) by downsizing, rightsizing, deunionising, corporate raiding and joblosses which follow it, offshoring to low wage countries, all of a sudden, when it is time for a normal recession, demand does not come back, and you’re in a Great Depression until the legislation that made this pro-corporate policy, is repealed.

There are three basic fundamentals of any economy – labour, capital and land. All neoliberal free market economics has done, is massively favour capital over labour, with huge economy distorting consequences. Labour is not just workers, but through their wages, they also represent the demand…

  96. they also represent the demand that is present in an economy. Undermine wages, and you undermine demand. And that is what we are seeing in for instance the USA, where people simply stop buying (over 2/3 of the US economy is driven by the consumer).

What we are seeing is the result of 3 decades of anti-labour, anti-worker, anti-middle class, anti-demand, pro-capital, pro-productivity, pro-corporate policies, otherwise known as ‘free market’ ideology.

This is what laissez faire, ‘free market’, supply side, voodoo economics, neoliberalism has brought.

A complete distortion of the economy by systematically undermining wages and the middle class.

The NEXT TOURIST Destination among our neighbouring countries for President Rupiah Bwezani Banda and his entourage is most like Zimbabwe, since he missed the swearing-in of Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangarai so that he can make sure we have a stable region in SADC to probably encourage the new government there to work together in UNITY and peace.

Also, he will probably encourage the Zimbabweans to grow more food to feed Zambians while he will indicate that Zambians will have to reciprocate.

    Let us wait and see.
