Share

Alert Sinazongwe residents on Monday evening intercepted a truck ladden with coal suspected to have been illegally mined at the shutdown Chinese Collum Coal Mine, CCCM, in the district.

The truck registration number ARB 8898 belong to CCCM was intercepted at Nkanddabwe around 21 hours on Monday evening.

Sinazongwe District Commissioner, Mungoni Simulilika, confirmed receiving the information about the alleged illegal mining at the CCCM.

Mr Mungoni said a truck was intercepted as it attempted to transport the illegally mined coal out of Sinazongwe district to unknown market destinations.

And a check by ZANIS at Sinazeze Police station discovered another truck registration number ABL 3777T also ladden coal belonging to CCCM impounded.

Police sources at Sinazeze, however, told ZANIS that they had been ordered to release the impounded trucks without delay by superiors, the move which has received immense criticism by Sinazongwe residents.

A fortnight ago Sinazongwe Member of Parliament, Raphael Muyanda, appealed to law enforcement agencies to swing into action and stop illegal mining, which was being being perpetuation by management CCCM contrary to regulations governing mining in the country.

On February 6, this year, the Mines Safety Inspectorate closed down CCCM indefinitely following the failure by the Chinese investor to meet the safety conditions and for illegal mining.

  1. Even maize or mealie meal trucks impounded, it;s just to show us the populance during day time that the Zambia Police are working, in the night the contraband will be ferried into Congo just like the coal. “Superiors” working on instruction from Henry Banda will order their release. Wait until the full comedy unfolds. Zambia One Comedy full throatle. So this story out, UPND this is your stronghold make sure this stroy does not die down or swept under the carpet, wake up from your coma. please learn to take matters happening in your strongholds seriously. PF does so on C/belt & Lusaka. This is your litmus test.

My man you are right, there is a saying that if a head is corrupt all the parts of the body will be corrupt. HE is here and there defending corrupt people, shame!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  5. “Police sources at Sinazeze, however, told ZANIS that they had been ordered to release the impounded trucks without delay by superiors …” oh my dear mother Zambia, are you that desperate sure to the extent of justifying lawbreakers? i shed tears.

  6. Well done to all Sinazongwe residents for your allertness.Sad though that the so called law enforcement agents have lost any regard for virtue. And I am sure there are other “superiors” who are aware of this but are either too weak or too corrupt to stand up for what is right and good for this country.May God have mercy on us because our leaders have exchanged for money the futures of many Zambians to the so called investors.Funny how MMD Govt will excorcise PF for their stance on foreign investors and not take time to investigate the situation on the ground and report back to the public ha!!!!

  7. The Junior police officers are doing a commendable job but the so called superior officers are bringing their morale down. Next time they will rather get corrupted and release the trucks before their big bwanas intervein and whom do you blame? Of course the big boma coz even the so called superior officers are getting orders from their ssperiors.

  8. The district commissioner should investigate who authorised the release of the impounded vehicles.
If a simple case like this can not be investigated, Zambia is in trouble.
People power should have prevailed here. If the public had gotten wind of the release of the trucks they should have blocked the road to prevent drivers leaving. Lets start using people power like the French, peaceful but effective. It never delivers results, all the time, but works.

  9. Those are patriotic Zambians and the superiors who
ordered the realise are the criminals we have in
