The heart of a Zambian- update on Cardson Kabwe

A month ago on the 25th January Lusakatimes published a story on Cardson Kabwe a 25yr old medical student studying in Russia. Cardson was diagnosed with heart disease which required urgent surgery. The Zambian embassy in Russia advised Cardson Kabwe to go back to Zambia, where chances of him ever having surgery were slim.

After the article was published on Lusakatimes there was an outcry from well meaning Zambians who castigated the Zambian government for quickly sending sick politicians to South Africa for treatment but ignoring this young promising future Zambian doctor.Lusakatimes readers stood in solidarity with Cardson and pledged to help  raise the funds for his heart surgery.

Lusakatimes is pleased to announce that the latest bank details show that a total of $6500 has been deposited in Cardson Kabwe’s VTB bank account. The paypal account set up by www.mwape.com (which is also shown on Lusakatimes)  collected $ 2 771.67. In total Zambian well wishers have raised $9271.67 for Cardson Kabwe to undergo a life saving heart surgery.

Cardson has been overwhemed by the response and would like to give his heartfelt gratitude to all those who have supported him financially, supported him in prayer and  those who provided moral support.

Cardson has been  referred to a military hospital where the total cost of the operation is cheaper and comes to approximately $11000. Procurement of high quality valves from the US and delivery to the hospital will  cost $5 000, then pre-surgery tests and the operation, another ( $6 000 approximately).
He has to procure the valves without fail by the end of this week. The hard cash is availible and he is in the process of ordering them.
The doctors will operate on him when he pays half of the cost for the operation (about $3 000). After the operation, he will pay the remaining half. Support from everyone all around the world has been overwhelming.

Cardson is confident that by the time he comes out of the operation all the funds will be available. It has been a tedious fight but things are looking  well for Kabwe. Every little amount donated counts and makes a difference.Please continue making donations either through the paypal account or his personal bank account( details found on the Cardson Kabwe link at the top of the Lusakatimes homepage)

All this has shown the true heart of  Zambia.Cardson Kabwe was faced with an impossible situation. His sponsors and the the Zambian embassy gave up on him and were ready to send him on the next plane to Lusaka. However, he was surrounded by a group of friends- Zambian students in Russia who believed if they stood up for a just cause regardless of what obstacles stood in their way they would overcome.Though the Zambian students in Russia often face delays in receiving their meagre allowances they pledged to give whatever they could to help their colleague have this surgery.  After reading about Cardson Kabwe, Zambians all over the world pledged to help raise the funds.This shows that we do not always need politicians, government or donors to change a situation.May Zambians continue in this spirit of unity to effect change in peoples lives and indeed our beloved country Zambia.Like the Zambian Students in Russia may we use obstacles in our paths as stepping stones.

God bless all those who have assisted cardson.Its a sad when people who have sacrificed to study abroad and who will save millions of Zambians in future are being ignored and yet when underserving leaders catch minor flu they are rushed to morning side clinic at tax payers money (me inclusive).Zambian Embassy in Russia, what is good to save a life or hold parties at the embassy.Lets be rational.

  12. Just to encouradge you Cardson! I can truely imagine what u are going thru right now. But all things are possible to those who put their TRUST in God.
    Last year in December while in Norway peursuing a Master of Engineering in Electrical, the Doctors diagnosed a problem of the HEART in me. I was given a date to go for further medical checked up a second time, scheduled in a months time. I shared this with Brothers and sisters in Norway and also back home in Zambia. They all stood with me in Prayers and we kept on PRAYING and periodically FASTING. One day while asleep, God showed me a RIVER that dried immediately the BIBLE was thrown in it. My ANSWER ,second test revealed I was 100% OK…

These embassies should all be restructured.Some of these so called diplomats do not have a clue as to why they are sent there.Anyway,what do you expect from family connections?The British embassy would do aything within their power to help their citizen.And as long as these polticians can get medical help from abroad they wont change anything.

As for the Embassy, those chaps in particular that came last time to St Petersburg to send Cardson home, we say your schemes have failed you. We won’t let you destroy us, we will not play your games of politics, we respect life more than money, that’s what our mothers taught us back home. We will not let you get away with this, we are coming ….

  20. I am happy for the chap i wish him good health this story in my opinion express what is lacking in Zambians the spirit to work together and not always say gov this and that. You see this is the kind of culture you find in the UK where people excessively take advantage of the system but they have a heart should they be called on as individuals to help they say scrow government we will do it ourselves you just cant expect government to do every little thing that its people cry over.   30. The other option mufana is when you get the whole money come back to Zambia with it and go to DR BWELEKA. He will treat you at a much cheaper cost and you will serve big. All embassies for the programme I was attending were invited..all came except the Zambians…I ended up being adopted by Tanzania. Is the Zambian Embassy in Russia telling us they cannot spare a little for their own national…when they plunder so much (auditors report) and spend all beer hosting parties…Chansoni Sana

    I am appalled that up to today, the President RB Banda MMD GRZ has not done anything to help Mr Cardson Kabwe – a student the goverment sponsor, even when it is quick to send politicains to South Africa for treatment.
    I wish them politicians well however. But let them remember that they will not always be in power. The Holy Scriptures indicate that “do unto others as you wnat them to do to you”. Later.

  51. Maybe we need to school these embasies abroad that they are there for the welfare of Zambians abroad or to promote Zambian interests abroad? Now its very common, Zambian embasies don’t give a damn about the nationals. You remember in S. Africa a few years ago a Zambian was killed and the body was on the roadside for days before S. African police collected it. And Wesly Mbula was there well informed of what was going on and he couldnt do anything.   54. Chile man you are right even FJT is not Bemba he is just a Bemba speaking man. In actual fact Bembas are not even ill mannered nor too out spoken. But now, thanks to chiluba, people think everyone speaking Bemba is a Mubemba thats not true. Sata, George Kunda, Chiluba, Machungwa, Katele, etc. these are not Bemba’s mwebantu.

    • While any normal Zambian who has been to school understands your true facts, check the figures relating to tribes given by the Central Statistical Office (CSO) of Zambia. You do do this by going to the website or visiting them in person opposite to UNZA Ridgeway Campus near to the UTH. For your own information the Ila and Toka-Leya people of the Southern Province are not Tonga by Tribe but the fall unders Tonga people in the CSO of Zambia statistics.
      My advice to all Bemba Zambians is that do not be emotional about the bad situation you are in, in fact we all Zambians are associated to it as our documents indicate ZAMBIAN CITIZEN not any tribe. Just tell Bemba Speakers to stop insulting.

This way all non-Bemba speakers and other world Citizens will become to notice a change in use of Bemba Language for bad motivates and then stop thinking they way they do currently. The way to go about it is that each time someone on LT insults in the Bemba Language, write to them to stop it for it is impacting badly on you as Bemba people. Advise people like Chewe to create a distinction between Bemba people and the Undereducate Micheal Chilufya Sata. This way, you will have no worries. Currently those who misbehave using the name BEMBA are the ones causing harm to all good Bemba Zambian people.

    • If those CSO statistics are anything to by then we would not have 72 tribes. Would we? Cos the whole N. Province, CB, Central and Luapula and parts of Lusaka would be Bemba. Then Tongas in the South, etc that then would leave us with about only 7tribes (Bemba,Nsenga,Ngoni, Lozi,Tonga,Kaonde,Luvale).

    • Central and Lusaka Provinces are far from being Bemba Tribe Controlled. Having lived in Lusaka City for about 7 years, I can make mention that people use Nyanja Language there more than any other.However, a lot of Kaponya use Bmba Language in their vendor-selling activities in Lusaka and other towns of the country – including Mazabuka all the way to Livingstone in the Southern province. In the rural areas of Lusaka and Central Provinces, you are more likely to find people using Lenje – late former President LP Mwanawasa’s tribe – and Tonga Languages. Again check CSO statistics if you dispute this data or go there in person.

What is the connection between the Undereducate Michael Chilufya Sata and your claim that I am against Bemba people having life? You behaviour has to do with a MENTAL SICKNESS baba.

      No one in his/her right state of mind would confuse Sata as a person and Bemba people who form about 38% of Zambia’s population as a Tribe as meaning one thing.     • Greetings Matworld. You see what, some of the overzealous characters comes and wants to behave as if he knows MATHEMATICS when he only knows ARITHMETICS – adding and subtracting figures. I gave him a REAL MATHS QUESTION and he/she is now hibernating because he/she CAN NOT COMPREHEND MATHS.
      I am sorry I had to put up and integration question on LT, but I think it was necessary to help the character to be careful next time. I gave the same question to some overzealous character in about 2006 on BwanjiDOTcom probably Shapulanga Banton (LLB), he didn’t answer.

The good news is we solved that problem with Abena Copperbelt and others while he was staying at Leisberg (spelling) Gardens Hostels of the University of Cape Town and the brother has now graduated and is in Zambia working while I am here studying.
