Govt determined to deepen women participation in national economic development

Share

Gender and Women Affairs minister Sarah Sayifwanda says it is government’s goal to deepen women’s participation in the economy.

Ms. Sayifwanda said it was government’s desire to encourage more women to participate in the growth of the national economy.

She said this in Lusaka today, when she officiated at a Zambia Breweries (ZB) organised meeting for women at the Mulungushi International Conference Center.

The minister said that government also appreciates corporate entities like ZB Plc who plough back their profits into communities.

Ms. Sayifwanda urged other corporate companies to emulate Zambian Breweries Group so that they can help make Zambia a better place to live in.

She commended Zambian Breweries for the approach they have taken of opting to empower the women adding that it was more sustainable than advancing them with money or loans.

Zambian Breweries Group Managing Director, Mr. Pearson Gowero said his company believes that long term success of any company is irrevocably intertwined with the success of the community it operates in.

Mr. Gowero said it is for this reason that his company has been a trend-setter in corporate social responsibility programs in the country for many years.

He said the seminar was further proof of the company’s commitment to Economic and Social development in Zambia.

  1. ok
    thats a gud move
the prob is our govt can only identify dancing talent in our mothers
thats why thy use them more in dancing at party meetings than for developmental purposes
    yap yaping is not gud
how one can explain the chasing of women at soweto
    wea my mother is selling
    one will pay one day
    watch out
your children will remind you of wat you do to people wen you are power
    that it is WRONG

  2. Its sad that we even have to talk about it. I hope they will also be paid the same salaries like the men holding the same positions. Where would a man be without a woman? Let us extend the Human Rights Agenda. The world is watching and thumbs up for all the initiatives aiming at the involvement of women in national development. I for myself think that women are a more honest part of our society. They can do a lot to build moral grounds in the public service.

  3. Women has been fighting for this for a long time and Iam happy its becoming a reality. If our women are empowered, they will become independent economically and I suppose issues of early marriages and child pregancies will reduce greatly.May I take this opportunity to challenge the women/girl folk to prove to us that they are ready for the challenges that lie ahead and that there wont be this thing like”Iam a girl, I cant do that kind of work”.Here in Russia, women are the ones who are Painters,Carpenters, overhead Technicians,Plumbers e.t.c and they do theirs jobs with great pride.

  4. Thats sad. MHSRIP.

Back to the topic. Women undergo intense hardships be at home or work place. Being empowered is a positive stance which should be embraced by all.
