Chipembele villagers hail MIBS’ HIV/AIDS sensitisation program

Share

Villagers in Chipembele ward in Monze district have commended the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIBS) for initiating an HIV/AIDS sensitization program.

The villagers said the HIV/AIDS initiative being implemented through Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS), was welcome in the area as it would help address various issues on the pandemic.

They said that HIV/AIDS was one of the major challenges being faced in the rural areas as very little sensitization had reached the areas.

A ward Councilor, Mr. Hamalengwa said in an interview that the HIV/AIDS sensitization program under ZANIS would go a long way in achieving awareness campaigns on the pandemic in rural areas.

This came to light when ZANIS Monze carried out an HIV/AIDS sensitization program which included showing of videos in the area.

The Councilor also called on relevant authorities in the ministry of information and broadcasting to ensure that such kind of programs and other developmental projects benefiting communities are brought to the attention of the people in order for them to appreciate government efforts.

ZANIS is currently conducting some sensitization program on HIV and AIDS in all districts of Southern province and other parts of the country through showing of videos on the pandemic and community meetings.

The program has since been funded by the ministry with each district receiving a total amount of K10 million for its implementation.

  1. Please also adopt the policy of “free condoms” !! This is even more important than just talking about it. Women should also be supplied with the condoms as well, just in case the men use the usual excuse. This matter is serious and should not be taken for granted.

  2. Abstinence does not kill…that also should be taken into serious consideration. HIV/AIDS has had a field day in zed due to loose morals and people being in perpetual denial despite half the population being wiped out.

    • Abstinence is the best and also the most unrealistic method of preventing HIV. Proverty and Alcoholism are contributing factors to the HIV/AIDS in Zed and when people are poor the only pleasure accessible to them is sex. Young people have no social services to occupy their time the next best thing ?Sex The US yesterday reported that Washington DC has a higher rate of AIDS than West Africa. My point is wherever you are in the world get you and your partner tested and use condoms. Sex has been there since the beginning of time and people will not abstain now. Safety in the key. multiple sexual partners is Russian Roulette.
