Meteorological dept predicts more rains

The Meteorological Department says widespread rainfall is expected in most parts of the country for almost a week.

Meteorological Department Deputy Director, Jacob Nkomoki, said the current rains being experienced in some parts of the country are due to the inter-tropical convergence zone established over the central parts of the country.

In a statement released to ZANIS in Lusaka yesterday, Mr. Nkomoki said the effect of a broad deep low pressure which is also associated with the rains and situated over the Western half of the country will strengthen the International Tropical Convergence Zone, ITCZ.

He said with the ITCZ strengthened, the outbreaks of the rains is focused to fall heavily over Northwestern, Western, Copperbelt, Luapula and Eastern Provinces.

Mr. Nkomoki, however, added that the rains are expected to start reducing over the Southern parts of the country by Sunday, March 22, this year.

  1. Mr Nkomoki, we shud be hearing of how zed must re harvest that fresh water before most of it goes to indian ocean. plenty of rain but soon we will hear that maize is destroyed and another famine will be announced. i dont understand pa zed, we have plenty of rain, and also plenty of other water bodies yet we lack clean water to run our taps

    • Am glad to see Mr Nkomoki rising to the position of Deputy Director. I remember in the early 90s when he presented the weather forecast on TV that it was going to rain the following day in Lusaka(chipolopolo had a game at independence stadium that day) and warned fans to carry raincoats. It turned out to be a bright cloudless hot day. I hope he is more accurate now since he is a senior man at Met dept.

  2. Northwestern, Western, Copperbelt, Luapula and Eastern Provinces please get ready! Hope this news has also reached these respective areas. It makes no sense if they are not informed. Please spread the news so that people can save their harvests and take steps to make use of the
    natural gift from above.

  3. This is a timely warning to our people and govt. Disaster preparedness will help reduce the impact of floods that will follow
