A good turnout of foreign-based players marked day-one of Zambia’s training camp in Johannesburg today.

Four European based players including another six based in South Africa have joined the team.

Striker Chris Katongo of German Bundesliga club Armenia Bielefeld and midfielder Isaac Chansa from Helsingborg in Sweden have both arrived in camp.

The French-based midfield duo of Felix Katongo and Stophira Sunzu of French Ligue 2 side Chateauroux have also joined camp.

And all six South African-based call-ups have also joined camp.

They are goalkeepers Kalililo Kakonje and Kennedy Mweene of Amazulu and Free State Stars respectively.

Amazulu defender Kampamba Chintu, Davies Nkausu of SuperSport United and Joseph Musonda from Lamotville Golden Arrows complete the list.

Expected later today are midfielder Rainford Kalaba from Gil Vincente in Portugal, Misheck Lungu of Hungarian club  Kecskemeti and striker Fwayo Tembo of Etoile de Sahel in Tunisia.

Jacob Mulenga failed to travel with his club mate but is also expected to join Zambia camp in Johannesburg Monday evening.

However, Mulenga’s club currently lie third from bottom and relegation threatened Chateauroux have a crucial home game on Friday against 11th placed Dijon and it is uncertain whether the dependable striker will join the team in Johannesburg.

Zambia leave for Cairo on Thursday ahead of Sundays opening 2010 World/Africa Group  C match against hosts Egypt.

  1. Lets prepare gentlemen. South Africa is near & many Zambians would travel to support our team if we made tp the World Cup. Its possible gentlemen

  2. GO GO GO GO ZAMBIA GO GO…………………that’s spirit guys come in numbers.
    I envy your spirit guys.

  3. Yes we can! I must start by saying good updates LT on our local league. I like this. Fingers crossed on this Sunday’s game against the Pharaohs. On paper we are no where near, but this is football. Fulham did it against Mighty Man U. Even us we can. Remember most of us wrote off these boys during the CHAN tournament but they prooved us wrong by respectifully rubbing shoulders with teams we dreaded. It’s just self belief and confidence come Sunday. Moreover the pressure is on Egypt for playing at home and guarding against their reputation of being African Champions twice on the trot. Go Chipolopolo!!!

  4. first thing, well done LT on the update of our local league, keep it up, and you must also be giving us upcoming fixtures for our local league. come sunday we are going to give egypt a good game. am very much sure were are beating egypt this time. go chipolopolo, we are behind you……….
