UK introduces new system for foreign students

Share

The United Kingdom has introduced a new system for students who are applying for Visas to study there.

The British High Commissioner Tom Carter said the new system of procuring the Visa will be through Tier 4 of the new streamlined points Based System.

He stressed that this process will require students to prove that they have been accepted in one of the courses run by an educational institute which is a UK Border Agency (UKBA).

He added that international students who will granted visas will required to undertake part time work of up to 20 hours per week during the term time, full time during the holidays and undertake any course related work in order to support themselves.

Mr Carter said this new process will be more transparent and will enable them to know which students are eligible for a Visa even before applying.

Mr Carter announced this in a statement released to Zanis in Lusaka yesterday.

  1. TO HELL WITH YOUR SCHOOLS OR IS IT COLLEGS OR UnIVERSITIES, AFTER ALL WE HAVE GOT OUR OWN GREENWOOD INSTITUTE,MASSI COMPUTERS,CHALIMBANA INSTITUTE,KASIYA SECRETARIAL COLLEGE,DORA TAMANE ALL HIGH QUALITY INSTITUTIONS.

  2. Any way, some of us have been all over the world, and baby when I say all over the world, I mean ALL OVER THE WORLD. So twalinaka ne fima VISA. Its for you young chaps who unfortunately due to the economic melt down might not have a chance to sample the world the we we have. Keep trying anyway, God is great and will make you see the world one day even give you a chance to eat snake soup etc…

  3. #4 Admiral– even before students were entitled to 20hrs postgrad and 16 undergrad. so its not new. The only thing is that they want people to be traced once they graduate- i suspect.

Ba #7 Dr Real Brain, It appears mufika in life, I mean you have achieved all you wanted. Man, all over the world? What wil you do for Zambia, I guess you will be all over it and stil do nothing.

  4. Ba Moderator naimwe, you have no sense of humor? When your grandfather says, I used to walk 500 km to school with my katundu backwards just to make sure that your dad lived to have you, what do you say? Mwilatubepa ubufi naimwe, not everyone is interested in school hhhhm!!!! Relax, have fun, all those problems you have will go away and all of us have them anyway but we keep laughing as if there are none. Life is short.

  5. Kamunyama, who told you that I didn’t do anything for Zambia? Did you research my background and contributions there? By the way if you see what I have done for that country, you will break down and say, I wish all of us were like this great guy called Dr. Real Brain. Please do not judge me through this blog. I have toiled for that country and those who knew me cried when I said I am leaving and they still send me emails asking me to go back and I will when the time is right. So also, enjoy the blog but always remember that there’s someone real at the end of the blog.

  6. They are only talking about the changing the system , but not saying that they have also introduced a few to apply for these visas, this is there cash cow. They will charge the poor students for the little money they make.
Anyway, its time for the students to get serious and get their qualifications.

  7. this so called british want to get rid of student as the recession is hit them badly. but what they are 4geting is most of there income comes through international student and nowdays its difficult to find a job unless if u a white a chance would b there

  8. The only change i know of is a direct Immigration fee for everyone coming to the UK,they say it will go towards the cushioning of effects of migration to localities that are affected more ie receiving more immigrants & get a strain on resources like healthcare, housing etc

  9. Ba honey, I don’t even think the so called ‘students’ are really there to study. it’s just one immigration loophole. and I know a lot of chaps there in the U.k who have quit school and some are simply roaming the streets of london. 😮

  10. Sometimes you wonder if it is all worth it. I am in Oz and I wonder if after my degree I could get a job pa Zed. Not all of us want to stay away, but its what we come back to that worries us. Ala tukabwela

  11. I think some people dont get the meaning of this. The western world today especially the EU are trying to make it harder for non EU members to gain access to entry to their teritories so easily. These rules are imposed to foreign students mainly from the non EU, and who are the non EU here, the Africans, chinese, indians and fillipinos., and And these are the ones that are hit harder.Just to enter this UK is like getting to heaven when its just another place on earth. Anyway I always make myself happy when I REMEMBER THAT ONLY GOD KNOWS WHERE WE BELONG. To be honest this rule will make it harder for boys and girls to come to UK for any course, coz they have to get sponsors and proof.,

  12. It is very sad that us Zambians still need to travel so far to get an education. I can understand people wanting to do high technology resaearch. The failure by our government to sort out education in Zambia is criminal. If people can afford to spend thousands of British pounds in the UK, why can they not afford to spend K5million a year on a good UNZA or CBU degree? After all these degrees are still recognised in European countries. UNZA and CBU need to be more innovative and open smaller campuses in all provinces.

  13. Goodmorning bloggers.
#2 & #7 I feel you guys. The world is now a big central bplace full of very different universities & colleges. Why do the Brits still think we are desperate to study there? Been there, done that way back and now we’re movin’ on, baby.

  14. Unfortunately No.23 thats the reality and we cannot sit back and wait for out govt to sort itself out regarding our Universities . Cheap as it may be to study at home, there are all those politics you yourself has raised. Life must go on regardless.

  15. Do people that are foreign trained get better jobs in Zambia? Why is it so popualr now to spend a lot of money abroad for a course thats already available in Zambia. Some zambia students need to rethink their priorities and not just jump onto the bandwagon of being an international student. Sometimes I wonder how people manage to fork out £15000 a year for an international degree.

  16. #12 & 13. Well I surely would not go beyond this arguing about something that I have not seen which you claim to have done for Zed. Are you the one who built the manda hill bridge? If there is a lot that you have done, what has been its impact? Buying shoes for your relatives and buying mosi for katondo boys is nothing to brag about.

  17. Well it seems rather interesting. Makes a lot of sense if you ask me. It will prevent all those people who obtain student visas under false pretense from doing so. It is also encouraging people to be responsible and self sustaining.

  18. Mwebantu, ask yourselves why is it easy for a Brit to come to Zed but difficult for a Zedian to come to the Uk.Kubonfyafye umutwe who ever wants can find himself or herself here.Make sure to get some qualifications.Migration will alwas be there.

  19. #31
It is easy for a Brit to go to zed because he/she wouldn’t wanna stay there but every Zambian or let’s say everyone wants to get to the UK & settle hence we all start as Students etc then switch to permanent residency now that is what the authorities in UK don’t want infact if u attend interviews to come to the UK as a student, they ask u if u wish to settle in the UK,if u say yes, then automatically ur disqualified, they want u to study & go back but almost everyone wants to stay including Americans. It is the way the UK govt looks after people that has caused almost everyone to want to be in the UK but they are getting a grip on things now,it’s tight to find work or work over your…

  20. Nchobaamba ba Carter, has been going on for sometime now as far as i know…nguni ukonzya kundaambila na kulichachincha?

  21. What jobs does this High commissioner is talking about, there no more jobs here companies are closing down just like anywhere in the world, inffact this is not a place to be any more,if any one wants to do an international degree or MBA let them go to Austrialia and other places not here, britain has been hit by recession such that they will do anything to try and make money,Last weeks london metro paper said Britain is in debt of £2 billion. Some of the big supermarkets like Tesco, they closing some of there shops around the country, not to mention woolworth….To hell with there Visa….

  22. On “He added that international students who will granted visas will required to undertake part time work of up to 20 hours per week during the term time, full time during the holidays and undertake any course related work in order to support themselves”, this is great news as it is close to what other European good economies are offering.

On the otherhand, there is really no need to do a programme at exorbitant amounts which can be done cheaply at UNZA/CBU/Mulungushi University/Zambia Adventist University and some public colleges in Zambia including those affiliated to UK and Australian Universities or study in South Africa/Botswana/Zimbabwe and Namibia.

Let us pump money in our…

  23. 35 continued.
… universities and colleges by sending our children and ourselves there for school.

Also, our GRZ must consider striking a balance on Academic and Research based schooling in Zambia so that we can begin to use a Model that will make Zambian education drive our small economy to be the best and role model of Africa by using our Natural resources effectively.

We as Zambians can do this even do it better than others have done it. All we need is the government to inject more money into the education sector with eye-catching salaries for the teachers/lecturers and researchers.

  24. #26 people go to such countries to get their Education
    1. Because its an easy passport for entry into those countries
    2. Simply because their families can afford to
    3. Because they couldn’t get a place(or field they wanted to specialize in) at any of the universities within Zambia
    4. Just for show off

  25. #9 Moderator wansekesha!! Anyway, people go to ingi for various reasons. Some of them, fikopo! bambi deserve to be there and others, well, they get married to whites as a means of escaping poverty here and brag ati, nili kubulaya!!

  26. #38 so if a person has a degree from an international university in comparison with Unza/CBu do they get better job prospects? What I don’t understand is why people with money to burn for example £15000 a year want to leave Zambia to study? Doesn’t make sense because that £15 a year can go in decent investment with good returns

  27. This Tom Carter is taking us for Zombies. The only thing the British are concerned with is to keep the blacks out. All these “jump-through-the loop” games are for that purpose and that is what he should really say. Mr. Carter you erect new hurdles and increase visa fees every year and then say “this is to make it better for you Zambians to go to UK”. What do you take us for? The Nigerians know how to deal with you racists. They just jump in aboat and meet you at Gibraltar. For us Zambians, we work at developing our country, morning , day and night so that no one will want to go to that cold, wet fridge of a dump.

  28. Cont… 41.. By the way Mr Tom Carter I regret using your language. That is possibly the reason you think we must be slow on the up take.

  29. TO

    The British High Commessioner,

    Mr.Tom carter,

    U K

    Dear Sir,

I am a medical afghani student in pakistan i want to go to uk and study here on free study vissa plz help me .contact me 03018817164

  30. These UK pipo have nothing better to talk about, they are always crying about their country, but there own pipo dont even want to work , the jobs are there , but they prefer to be feed by the Govt. Shame on them.

In the future all the foregner will leave, thatn we will see what they will do, nonsence.

  31. Fazale Rehman,

This not a jokin matter, these pipo are just full of themselves. Last time the Zambian increased the prices for Visas, these pio where the first one to go to the press and complain, They would rather come to Zambia with out paying for the visas, but this time its Tit for Tat.

  32. Have they not introduced biometric ids for all UK students as from November 2008 onwards? Plus the points system, Its a cash cow for the british. The education sector in the uk is a multi billion industry but they brits still want to make more?

Kaya!! I have graduated so it does not bother me!!

  33. # 28, Kamukanya, come on, stop that. Just keep on blogging with my students whom I have coached how to look at things positively some of whom I have graduated here. Isn’t that a contribution worth bragging about? Yes, I did it again!!!! I have added sraight heads to Zambia. Bafye bwino mdala, balabwesha umutengo wa kabunga, don’t be too personal, ni Zambia fye yo. By the way, I would have bought you mosi if I was there. Looks like you really like it. Remember, Katondo boys are a critical mass to the development of Zambia, don’t patronize them. Look at everyone as being equal in the image of God, that way you will not steal if you ever get a chance to be a politician.

  34. i like it i think point system is very good for deserving student.my student who one not deserve make fictitious document and go their for a work while those who really want to get study just waiting
