A concerned man of Mambova area in Kazungula district says women are given too much attention on issues of human rights.
Charles Nasambala said although he is happy with the Young Women Christian Association’s programmes which advocate for equal rights for both women and men, law should not be favoring women alone.
Mr Nasambala said it is important to advocate for mens rights as well, saying the issue of gender has made many women lose respect for their husbands.
He was speaking in Mambova yesterday during a sensitization programme on gender-based violence against women and children organized by the YWCA.
But YWCA Regional Coordinator for Southern Province, Dorothy Velemu, said law does not favor women alone, adding that anyone can be punished for committing a crime.
Speaking at the same occasion, German Development Service Advisor for civil society, Jan Kottner, said women’s rights need to be protected in order to bring development.

Men’s rights have always been there and so have women’s. The problem comes in when these rights are violated and not accorded to the deserving parties. That’s when the trouble to recognise women’s rights is emphasised. Getting balances right in no way inhibits the rights of men from recognition.

Mr Nasambala is a typical Tonga Bull, so it seems rather strange to him that women even have rights!!. This is true for most African men.
What he needs to be encouraging is greater sensitisation of men on their treatment of women, so that female emancipation is not just a one-sided endeavour. Otherwise rural husbands like him will fail to appreciate their wife’s sudden change in behaviour and interpret it as disrespect.

Some men do not appreciate their wives. They think women are tools. That’s why even the Bible says husbands, love your wives as Christ loved the church. By so doing you will have no problem with these rights whether men or women’s rights.
How is giving the women too much attention detrimental to national development? Maybe he means too much funding. I feel in Africa women still don’t get the rightful attention they deserve compared to other parts of the world like Europe or the US. Am I the only man who feels this way?

GUYS, lets call a spade a spade. The man has a point. its true we should consider women as equal partners in development and sencitise their human rights which are equal to men. At first I used to support this fully but now I do it partialy. The reason is that I have discovered that, just as human beings are never satisfied naturally, the women now are no longer fighting for equal rights which they have. Even in Germany women have more rights than men. I think it is just fair because there are still a lot of discrimination out there. In Africa where Tradition is at work it is even worse for a woman to break through. Its about time and more should be done.

Citizen, I like you points. As for women, let them realise that the Holy Scriptures are clear and they have to submit themselves to their husbands.
In fact, if only women knew how blessed by God they are, they would be better people in the way they carry themselves.
The Holy Scriptures clearly indicate that only God can create a human being and other life forms. Interesting enough, our God has given the women a very big role in a family of being responsible for reproducing human life and mentoring the offsprings from conception to child-birth and then to imparting good health and manners to the born children up to the time they are about 7 years old in which time they can be exposed to teachings by others. Sad enough, some women now don’t even want to use this rare responsibility.

If you are a free loader expect your wife to be the head of the house. If a man can’t do his role in the house then the wife takes over as head of the house. This is what I think. Very interesting subject indeed. First, we should define woman rights. What are woman rights? Is it equality? Those who are Christians know that man and woman are equal in the sight of the Lord God. The rights of a woman are the rights of a man. All want respect, love, care, recognition, excellence in life etc. Is this true? Yes it is coz we are all equal before our creator. Though we are equal, God also created as with different roles. The roles of man in general would be different from the roles of a woman. This is what is creating problems in marriages coz we are not differentiating equality from roles. Equality does not mean having a sweeping, washing or a cooking roster at home.

Firstly, I am safe in the alms of God, by His grace. As for the search of the woman, all efforts are on hold on as I am in a Personal Economic Crises after seemingly having plundered FAMILY RESOURCES although Mama is happy about my progress school wise – especially that I am scheduled to be home soon. For this reason, the would-be wife search is in God’s hands.

Am sure you also know that Corinthians say that women should not talk in church and that no more than one two people should speak in tongues and there should be a translator, Are all these rules followed?. You cant interpret the bible verbatim, you also have to take into account the customs and the times when the scriptures were written. Women are 100% equal as men.
